How does one perceive the Holy Spirit within them and see his working? The Holy Spirit is spoken of as a Comforter, Teacher, seal of guarantee of the inheritance... etc. Galatians also mentions the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. How do you know when the Lord is working in you to produce the fruit of the Spirit? There are also many people who are not Christian who are very loving and kind.

Hi Cherie

Good question. I would answer with another question. How did the apostles know that Holy Spirit was given to those they laid hands on? The answer is in Acts.

Additionally. Too late to edit, soooo...

Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Joh 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (John 16:13 KJV)

I know that people would speak in tongues and prophesy in the book of Acts. Speaking in tongues as some do today, however, I don't necessarily see as proof. I have heard of people who are not Christian who can " speak in tongues". I am a little skeptical about it and personally don't feel comfortable doing it. I used to do the practice of speaking in tongues quite a bit but I did not grow up for the most part, in churches that do that. I have prayed to God about speaking in tongues but I still don't feel quite right about doing it on my own. There have been occasions in the past where it sounded like I was speaking in tongues in my sleep because at times before I would be waking up half-awake and half-alseep and had caught myself speaking something.

You are correct in your understanding - to have the indwelling Holy Spirit which comes from our Father is to also have
Christ Jesus dwelling within you - as the Father and the Son are one together …

Romans 8:9
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ,
he is none of his.
1Peter1:11 (which is explained by 2Peter1:21)
Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings
of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
2Peter 1:21
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

John 14:23
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Acts 10:
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles
also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

The only church that had an issue with the indwelling Spirit was the immature Corinthian assembly that had some 15 errors.....the evidences of one having the Spirit of God in them is seen in numerous places....the bible sets forth the "fruits" of the Spirit and Paul covers being continually filled with the Spirit in Ephesians......do not be deceived by those saying if you don't speak in tongues you do not have the spirit!! Cease does not mean continue!!!!!

The Holy Spirit witnesses with our spirit that we are Christ's. The Holy Spirit comes along side of us and guides into the truth of Gods word. The Holy Spirit comes along side of us and brings conviction of sin when we transgress. The Holy Spirit teaches us to be righteous and holy before the Lord God.

We learn that love is not an emotion but a commitment. A commitment that requires sacrifice. We love Christ and through Christ we love those of whom it is not comfortable to love. We love as the Samaritan loved the man who was beaten and left for dead on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho.

For the cause of Christ
