I saw an American News Corespondent the other day who said the US already had a fence the whole length of the US/Mexican border. Also that immigrants would not have to climb a wall to enter the US
because the proposed wall would be actually situated within the US border leaving an area that immigrant could still reach and claim asylum. Is this true?

There are a lot of areas that have no fence whatsoever (remember that we're talking about a border of 2,000 miles {3,100 kilometers}), some areas that have little more than chain link fencing which can easily be defeated with a large pair of wire cutters, and some areas that have a heavy gauge steel pole barrier.
I remember over thirty years ago the border area between Tijuana and San Diego only had a chain link fence that paralleled a major highway in Tijuana. At any given time you could drive along that highway and see multiple areas where the fence had been cut. That area now has improved steel fencing (and considerably fewer illegal entries).

and yet again here is more "fence" that will only stop a car, not a motorcycle of someone on foot (not even wire run between the posts)
