It will always be difficult to reconcile. Labor will always want more money and benefits and management will want more productivity and lower overhead. A mediator is often used along with binding arbitration in order to hammer out a deal that's fair enough for both sides. But those kinds of jobs are going the way of rotary dial phones and black and white TV's.

I suppose it depends upon which side of the bargaining table we are sitting on.
