Is satan the root cause of all the problems that we face and just about everything that is going wrong in the world?

If so, can someone who is accused of a crime, can he say the devil made me do it as his defence?

What exactly can we blame satan for, and what are the things that we should take responsibility for?

For example, if kids are rude, is it satan or are the parents at fault? And what if the parents are doing their best but the kids are still out of control, is satan the real culprit?

Can Satan be blamed for a person cheating on their spouse? If the cheating spouse said: I don't know how it happened, things just got out of control. Is their weak flesh the fault or satan or should the person they cheated with take the blame for getting involved with a married person?

A aeroplane or a car developing engine problems. Is it really engine trouble or did Satan interfere with the engine?

What about those days when we are unorganized. Running late for an appointment, can't find a much needed item, forgetting to purchase something at the supermarket, not spending time with God...is satan just getting in the way?

I've heard Christians say that we can either rebuke or take authority over satan for all his interfering in our lives. But this isn't something that I personally do. I just cast all my burdens or the troubles in the world on Jesus. And whether the problem be myself, someone else or Satan, I just ask God for His intervention.

What are your thoughts concerning this?

We are accountable for our actions thust we will be judged for them. The devil, satan aka lucifer too will be judged By God and sent to the place prepared for him. There are many things the devil is doing and he does because it is his nature to do so.
here are some in scripture :

1.murderer as he was from the Beginning John 8:44
2. Liar and the father of them John 8:44
3. deceiver Rev 12:9
4. tempter Matt 4:3
5. accuser of the brethren Rev 12:20
6. he is the antichrist 1john 4:3 Rev 13:1-18 chp 16:13

We are to call on the Lord to rebuke him. And ask the Lord to bind him. We are to take authority over all the works of the devil in prayer. and we are to live as unto the Lord. When we sin we do not go to the Lord and say the devil made me do it, we ask forgiveness for what we did.

the works of the devil we are to pray to the Lord about :

spirit of antichrist, murder, the preaching of the gospel , for the sick, those held captive, and those in authority. for the unsaved.

The devil is at work and so must we be about our Lords work.

1. Just because satan is why we are tempted and have a sinful nature, doesnt mean its not our fault. In some cases it may not be the persons fault but that severe possesion is very rare, especially due to our God given bondaries that are hard to cross. (concience)

2. well Kids arent usually rude without having learnt it somewhere...ike at home. If the parents dont do their job thats also a mix between spiritual and natural components. if they dont see whats going on because they are blinded for example and dont protect their child and pray for him or her, the child is a easy target.

3. usually airplanes get problems because people dont do good jobs by missing something. its not all satans fault. i dont say it cant be, but usually its not

4. cheating doesnt happen usually without a person knowing what theyre gonna do even if they are drunk unless they were drugged unconcious which would be rape. the enemy tempts , not make us cheat or murder or whatever.

5. sometimes the enemy tries to get us by annoying us so he can get us filled with anger and get a foothold on us. the days when everything goes wrong...thats the days to step up and pray really hard

6. We are given the authority by Jesus to use it. When we dont, we pretty much stand on one leg. God fights in heaven for us and we reinforce his victory here on earth. The enemy doesnt even take us serious if we dont. That way we are no danger to him and his kingdom. We have to do our part and God does his.

We are to call on the Lord to rebuke him. And ask the Lord to bind him. In this way We are to take authority over all the works of the devil in prayer.

But only through prayer are we to rebuke Satan. We must not talk directly to him.

Is this what you are saying?

I am going to give you my opinion on this, and I am going to try to use as much scripture as possible. I could be completely wrong here, but I think this is a great question.

James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

I do not believe there is any Biblical evidence that we have the authority to "rebuke" Satan. Now, if I am wrong and you know of such a passage I would be more than willing to consider it.

Jude 1:9
But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.”

Note here that the rebuke is from the Lord and not the Angel himself.

I believe we should resist all temptations to do evil, but let us also remember that Satan is not omnipresent. The chances that he has ever been in your presence is probably rather small. (Again this is simply my personal interpretation).

I can appreciate your concern for the enemy because we know he is real, but I do not know that rebuking him is the right action. We definitely should resist his temptations.

We have the armor of God to resist the devil. He cannot touch us with his lies and deceptions. Therefore, I do not find any reason to rebuke Satan nor do I believe I have that authority in myself. I must leave that up to God who has full authority over all things.

Now on to the subject of temptation. We know that we have multiple sources of temptation. There is the world and the systems of the world which are able to tempt us to sin. There is your own fallen flesh which is at enmity against God. We also have the devil and his angels which play a part as well. However, these outside influences cannot force anybody to sin. They are willfully submitting to these things because they love sin over God.

armor is not used for resisting only

there is a reason the metaphor of Roman armor was given by Paul

armor is worn when engaging for battle and the different parts of the armor are for different things...like the shield...for faith, the helmet for salvation...helmet protects your head...renew your mind by the word

a study on the armor is very helpful for understanding more about spiritual warfare because, make no mistake, there is a war going on

it is simply not true that a Christian cannot be deceived, misled or hurt. this is a dangerous thing for a Christian to believe...mind you the Christian who does nothing in service for God or does not bother to read the Bible or pray and just thinks saved means 'yay I'm going to heaven' may very well not have to worry about being attacked or deceived...because they have already been living in deception...not saying that to you personally

Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
I Peter 5:8

none of that to say we should be devil or evil conscious but should be aware of that side of things and prepared to deal with

sadly, there seems to be little teaching on it and often people learn what they know through personal experience...but it is all in the Bible

the emphasis should always be on God

Yes he did not say he rebuked satan. He said the Lord rebuke satan :)

So all this rebuking the devil, and he may not even be there to hear it? Oh boy

Thanks for your humility in your post :)

Yet in the same way these men, also by dreaming, defile the flesh, and reject authority, and revile angelic majesties. But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

Wow. Thats a lot of questions OP I wont try to answer them all at once but give you some food for thought.

The first question is satan at the root of all problems well Im going to say at first glance yes we have an enemy who wishes to destroy Gods creation. But then we also have the scripture in Timothy that says the love of money is the root of all evil.

So you may want to take that into consideration. How satan and money and evil are related is maybe another study in itself.

The second can we blame the devil well yes and no, because Eve did blame the devil for deceiving her or beguiling her but she actualy did know she was doing the wrong thing because she had been warned beforehand. She was tempted and she fell into temptation. So we can blame the devil but we cant also overlook the fact that if we knew to do the right thing but didnt, that was ourselves are being disobedient.

God actually gives Eve a somewhat lesser punishment than Adam though because she was easily decieved. Wheras adam was not. Why because God had directly warned adam but eve only heard it second hand from adam. So adam wasnt actually deceived he knew God had said not to eat the fruit as God had told him.

The devil was able to get to eve because the devil cast doubt in her mind...did God really say. Now if Eve had heard directly from God she would have confidently said well yes God actually did say to me dont eat this fruit. But since she had only heard it from adam not God himself she wavered.

Sorry if this sounds a bit convoluted but just want to give you a picture of what happened and how. COs we know that Adam did an even worse thing passing the buck and not only blamed Eve, but actually blamed God for giving eve to him! One must never blame God for evil!

Eve was right in a sense that the devil was to blame. She just had to own up, maybe to her own pride but she did say she was deceived.

What are your thoughts concerning this?
One day while at the University of Illinois I was sharing the Good News with a frind of some months who had come to me to "discuss" the Word. He was a psych major if that has any bearing on the subject to any one reading.

This session had become quite lively, and at the end of the session I was moved to say to him, "Jesus loves you and His Blood is awaiting you to cleanse you and make you whole." Well as soon as I mentioned the word, Blood, dddddddddmy friend jumped from the table as though he had a sprin in his butt.

He becaume livid and white. Then he threatened me saying he was a worshipper of Satan and knowin I hitched all around the country sharing the Word, he said one day when I am out on one of those linely highways he is going to send his master to "get me."

In the days immmediately following others who know of this person came to warn me that this person was assembling high school boys from IlliHigh to have a "black mass" in my honor.

I did encounter him in the hallway in the student union and he would lak by me muttering who knows what.

No matter, he no longer came into the Student Union after that, ad the Blood of Christ, as it is with us all, was between me an d him...…….I believe this was a manner of rebuking, calling upon the pdower of Christ's Blood as a wall………..About forty years later there was another incident where the Blood was mentioned with equal results. Neithr time was it mentioned in anger, but his Authority came with it. Praise Jesus, Yeshau for His constant care of each of us, amen.

Satan is called the god of this world, hard to believe a god would have no influence over his world.

when one has truly been 'Born-Again', then of course satan has no 'power'over us', it's our new journey' of
obeying The Holy Spirit and learning what is expected of us as we begin our new life of walking
'in The Light'...
