To my knowledge there is no accounts of early church fathers of people being "slain in the spirit" as that video portrays.
Are you aware of any documented cases in early church history? If so, quote the text and give a link to the primary texts, so we can check the contexts.

Thanks,
Daniel

Bear in mind that the phrase "slain in the spirit" is both modern and misleading. :)

John 18:5-7
They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.

6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.

7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.(what about this)
.they went backward, and fell to the ground.
But this is not the saints that fell backwards, but the people that opposed Christ.

What is the purpose of falling back in the Spirit, for what if someone cracks their head, and the television evangelists like to put on a show, especially Benny Hinn, which I think of Benny Hill for it's comedic effects.

garee os setting up a false strawman to knock down and can provide no evidence that any Christian denomination identifies being slain in the Spirit as a "sign gift." Futhermore, as usual, garee has never experienced what he condemns and is therefore pontificating from ignorance. of just how overwhelming the outpouring of the Spirit can be.

While at Fuller Seminary, I learned of a Presbyterian football player who attended one of Kathryn Kuhlman's healing rallies. He was not a charismatic, but when he approached her after the meeting, she gently touched him during their conversation and he fell to the floor, slain in the Spirit--a huge, strong football player, no less! My Aussie friend Sam and I sneaked onto the platform to sit with the 65 pastors sitting there during her service. Suddenly, in front of the 9,000 people, she wheeled around and touched each pastor gently on the forehead. When she did, it seemed like she had electricuted them and everyone "rocketed off their chair, prostrate on the floor, overcome with blessing. I was uncomfortable with being "slain" in this way, but without looking my way, the Spirit prompted her to stop slaying pastors just 3 pastors before me. I was deeply impressed by her discernment to stop short of me.

Let me illustrate how much divine power the Lord bestowed on Kathryn's right hand. My friend Lloyd had an atheist friend who shares this testimony. One day he was walking through a crowded mall, when he accidentally bumped into a lady. She braced herself for the collision, gently touched him, smiled, and they went their separate ways. That night this atheist fell under conviction of sin and committed his life to Christ. Years later, he saw a picture of Kathryn Kuhlman and recognizeg her as the woman he collided with that fateful day of his conversion. He now recognizes that her touch of blessing is precisely what prompted the work of the Spirit to convert him that glorious life-changing day!

So garee, don't grieve the Holy Spirit by condemning the ways He works to save the lost and empower people to walk in the Spirit!

OK - one last response.

By your post, you name Kathryn Kuhlman's healing rallies.

Evidence, by scripture,
that tears the foundation of this stack of cards down is this:
She was not even supposed to be there!

1 Corinthians 14:34-40

" 34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded

to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the

commandments of the Lord.

38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. "

She is not appointed to be a teacher, or preacher before the church of GOD.
That alone, should make it clear that what follows is not after truth, and it is for those who see.

And you go on further, and say that this spiritual experience is what saves the person,
and not the repentance from every dead work, and to complete trust and faith in the Crucified Lord Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit does not move like this, - it is CLEAR, and why is it clear?

Because the example you shared, is NOT after the truth.
This woman, when in line with scripture, is a child of disobedience.

She disobeys GOD.

By your own words, MadHermit - please, have a look at the fruits....

You say, and I will highlight every bad fruit - from your experience, that is NOT in line with the Fruit of the SPIRIT -
and the danger here is...
IF The SPIRIT of GOD
was moving on you, HIS FRUITS MUST follow.
Do you know the fruits of the Spirit of GOD?
They are not the ones you mention here.

This is not how the Spirit of GOD operates.
You can be sure of that.

Matthew 7:22-29 King James Version (KJV)

"22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name?

and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man,

which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not:

for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house

upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes."

You should have one teacher.
God Himself.

1 John 2:27
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing
teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Your premise is flawed: Kuhlman wasn't at a church service, but a public rally. Even a complementarian view of 1 Corinthians 14 has nothing to say about that. :)

Jesus sets an example of a desperate quest for God's will that so overwhelms the seeker that he "falls to the ground (Mark 14:35)." And supplicants often fall on their face in Jesus' awesome presence.

The expression "slain in the Spirit has solid biblical grounding; it is based on John's reaction to a divine manifestation: I fell at his feet as though dead (Revelation 1:17)." The expression refers to the experience of being overwhelmed by a manifestation of the Holy
Spirit, for example, through the gift of prophecy: "But if all prophesy, an unbeliever or outsider who enters is reproved by all and called to account by all. After the secrets of his heart are exposed, and so, FALLING ON HIS FACE, he will worship God (1 Corinthians 14:24-25)."
So there is a better question than the validity of being "slain in the Spirit:" that question is, "Why aren't more modern believers being slain in the Spirit according to the pattern established by Paul? Part of the answer is that modern Christians have no clue as to what the gift of prophecy actually entails. To see why, just reread 1 Corinthians 14:24-25 to see this gift in action.
Whenever I experience "the glory of the Lord," it is natural that "I fall upon my face (Ezekiel 44:4; cp. Numbers 20:6; Leviticus 9:23-24)."
It is natural to fall prostrate during a heavenly vision (e. g. Acts 9:4; Genesis 17:3, 17; Ezekiel 1:28; 3:23; 9:8; Daniel 8:17-18; 10:9).

Even unbelievers could fall to the ground in awe of Jesus' presence (John 18:6). This is thrillingly illustrated by an incident that occurred during an unstructured worship service during the Welsh Revival of 1904-05. A skeptic was so annoyed by what he pereceived as fanatical spontaneous confession of sin and testimonies that he demanded to speak. When no one responded, he marched to the front of the church and began climbing the steps, hoping to denounce these fanatical proceedings. But suddenly he as slain in the Spirit. When worshipers realized what was happening they rushed to his side, led him to the Lord, and he was gloriously saved!
