No bro. Taking it more serious then just some silly prayer someone asked you to repeat and now you are saved is a little too unrealistic. It takes commitment to God in this new belief in God if you truly gave your life to Jesus and received Him in your heart. Thats what people need to take serious. We give our life to Him and live for God now. A living testimony.
While your right, Just saying some silly prayer has never saved anyone

It takes TRUE repentance, and TRUE faith to be saved.

Once one has gotten on his knees in humility and has become “poor “ or “Bancrupt” in spirit. He then can say that so called silly prayer (call out on the name of Jesus) and he will be saved, with EVERYTHING that comes with it.

But once he has done this, HE IS SAVED, and he HAS ETERNAL LIFE.

He could not SAVE himself. And now that he is saved, he could never do enough work to MAINTAIN his salvation, or keep himself saved. Jesus said it is finished, He did nto say I did my part. Now you must do yours.

Why are you so against doing things to please God as if God deserves no such thing.
Why are you being like so many before you and SLANDERING me as if I think this way? Why do you peopleuse this as a means to justify your belief, instead of actually sitting still. Opening your mind, and finding ourt what we really believe?

Dude, I not only LOVE and ENJOY doing things for my savior (that what gratitude does) I also suffer of thinking of all the times i failed to do so. Or missed opportunities. Thats what true believers do. So I have no idea what your talking about whan you claim I feel this way, It is just a flat out lIE

Thinking that being greatful to God as works is just downright crazy. Let me ask you a question. Since works is seen to you as blasphemy.
Again? Dude you need to back up. And stop where you are.. This nonsense that people who believe in salvation by grace alone think works are blasphemy is for the birds. You are deluded if you think this, and you are wrong. I am sure you do not like it when people say things you do not believe, so you can understand my great anguish and anger at those who have sullied your mind with this false belief about myself and my bothers and sisters

What do you consider works? So I can see the things you are against and what you will not do. Define works please. I want to see what it is that is an offense to you.
Lets get this straight

We are like paul. Against those who WORK to try to EARN or MAINTAIN their salvation by their own MERIT

We are not against works of ANY KIND

do you understand???? Or will you continue to slander those whom you do not agree with?[/quote]

You didnt give your life for Christ? You brought nothing to God?
Yeah

She brought her pain, her sin, Her desperate situation, and her humility

Thats all she had.

She became bankrupt, like the tax collector did, Like the person who is drowning does when someone comes to rescue them, like the child in the fire who needs to be rescued, or the person trapped in a burning car desperately needs rescuing

Maybe you do not understand the situation we are in before we are saved?

If you think you offered God anything, you can noto understand your situation. All we can offer is bloody rags..

Now. Look at the people where were rescued? How do they treat the people who rescued them? Yeah thats what I thought, they love them, They try to do things for them. They celebrate them. They hold them up as heroes.

I never said anything about being saved. But thats all you talk about. Are you a child of God or a heathen? Do you love God or yourself? And you never answered my question are you a homosexual?
Lol

The topic is being saved.

But should have known.

So what.

If it is not biblical it is not of God.

Roger,

Waggles didn't say "so what" in regards to something being biblical or non-biblical. He said it regarding something being comprehended by man or not. Effectively he was saying that man's ability to understand has nothing to do with whether a thing is of God or not.

I agree. OSAS is not something I agree with. We should take salvation much more serious then that. Thanks for your response.

I was so thankful the day my son said "I believe". I took him to church for the first time and I had him put some of his money in the offering plate. Well he started to cry after he did. And I had to explain to him that we were giving the money to God to thank Him for all that He does for us. I had told my son that God provides everything we need. My son that weekend had been asking for shoes and we hadnt found any nice ones the day before, so I pointed out that God will give you nice shoes. He knows all our needs. So my son stopped crying slowly getting the concept of giving to God.

Next thing that happens about 10 min later is a little boy sitting in the pew in front of us had candy. And he was eating it and didnt offer my son any, but the boys mother told him to give my son a peice. The boy reluctantly did so and then my son had candy. Candy that he didnt have and probly would have spent using the change that he put in the offering plate. The little boy sees my son happy to have the candy that he gives my son more candy! And now my son had a bunch of candy. I leant over and told him, look God gave you candy. You didnt have candy but God knew you wanted candy. God takes care of us.

Later we went to the mall and I bought him shoes. And I thought that was the lesson there showing my son God provides. But God took it a step further. We were at a friends house and out of nowhere my friend's girlfriend brings my son a pair of new shoes. She says she had them just sitting in the garage her son never wore them. Nice brand new Jordans. I instantly remember what I had told my son. "God will give you nice shoes". And here they were. I reminded my son. And the blessing didnt stop. She brought him spiderman sweaters and shirts. He got blessed.

I used this time to show my son all that God does for us. And how we should be thankful. We just have to believe in God. And my son says "I believe in God. Im always gonna believe in God". Best day ever. My son was 4 years old.

There was a lesson in there for Daddy, too. :) What you told your son was correct, that God would give to him if he willingly gave to God. (That was a promise) But God didn't need you to cover for him by buying your son a pair of shoes in God's stead. God was quite capable of giving himself...which he did through your friend's girlfriend (not you).

Your action was actually a bit like Abram and Sarai's in Genesis 16. God had given them promise of offspring back in chapter 12, but it wasn't happening fast enough for Sarai. So she decided to 'help God out' by bringing in another woman to sleep with Abram to see if she could bring a son to Abram that way. And yes, they were able to bring a new son into the house, but that son was not the promise, and did that son did not replace God's obligation. So, disregarding their attempts, God honored his promise by giving them a son, Isaac, on exactly the day he had originally intended...just like he brought the promised pair of shoes to your son regardless of what you'd done.

God actually wanted you to rest on his promise the same way you were asking your son to rest on God's promise. God had your back. :)

Hi Roger,

I was just pointing out that your answer was on a different topic than Waggles' question. Plus, I"m not sure what or who you're asking about in this particular quote.

Na bro you cleared it up when I see that you help the asian community when they come from overseas. Thats a good thing youre doing. That would be considered works and yes I agree works has nothing to do with salvation, it is what proceeds from a renewed heart.

Bro I come from a prison background where everything is surrounded by violence. To turn the other cheek in humilty is not somethibg one can do on their own but rather God! Renewing the heart the mind and the soul of that person.

People on here just focus on salvation too much. For me its about living a sanctified life and being a blessing to others and my family. God saved me from a life of crime and destruction. Im reaching out to my people from where I come from, and its not about heaven or hell. Its about turning to God. He is the only way. And He can be there thru thick and thin when others turn their back. I could care less about when I die. Thats just a bonus. Im trying to gratify God with my life. Walk in His truth.

My bad if I misunderstood your concept but hey as long as you Love God and living according to His word thats great! My only opinion is being saved shouldnt be the focal point. But maybe I just had a harder life then alot of people on here. God bless you brotha. None offense taken.

I think you did several times?

You actually have not answered my question, how much work is required to obtain salvation?
I responded to others when I speak about being saved. My focus is never about being saved but rather turning to God. He is the only answer to whatever we may be going thru. He provides. Being saved focuses on where we go when we die. Im not dead by a long shot. Im here to be a vessel for God as I live and breathe.

Regardless if someone views it as works. Thats not the reason why God saved me. Im not saved by works. I love Jesus and what He did for me. Therefore I desire to be used by Him. Theres so much work to be done for the kingdom of God. Look at how sinful society is. I live in California so its sin mecca out here. We can only do so much compared to how much the devil has done in society. Abortion is now up to the day of birth in New York. Homosexual marriage is widely accepted now. Divorce is the norm, if people even get married. This aint the 60's it aint "leave it to beaver" where Im from.

So if you want to sit back on your gift of salvation and do nothing while the world is going to hell in a handbasket and taking our relatives and future generation down with them, then thats on you. I dont promote a prayer for salvation, I promote a relationship with God and let Him lead your life. Thats what I promote. Not the OSAS mentality. Where does that get anyone? Probly hell in most cases. (Generally speaking. Everyones situation is different.)

11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,
12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ,
14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession
who are zealous for good works.

[2] For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. [3] For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. [4] Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. [5] But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. [6] Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, [7] Saying , Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. [8] Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

“philosophy” and “science falsely so called” and “the love of money” are what’s causing folks to “err from the faith”. I’m certain these Aren’t the only vices in which Christians are entrapped and deceived into erring from the faith!

I will try to help you understand

People around here talk about salvation to much because there are way to many people who claim salvation is earned, maintained, or kept by what type or how much work they do. Or how well they are able to stop sinning.

Thats a dangerous gospel which is leading people to hell.

I would love to have a sanctification thread. To show what true sanctification looks like. Sadly I fear it too would turn into a faith vs works thread as people would still try to make it a salvation issue when it is not, and has never been (well except for the starting and empowering part :) )

Hi Preacher1611, welcome to the BDF (Bible Discussion Forums). I see that zealous to battle false doctrines, and you're itching to call something an "opposition of science falsely so called". But what statement you are refuting?

Got a second question for you. Have you ever questioned why James 2 was written?
