How do you know you have the Holy Spirit inside of you? When does one receive the Spirit? Is it immediately among believing on Jesus for salvation or later on?

The Spirit doesn't scream and bash you over the head lol... instead, it relentlessly whispers every moment, every day. Most people mistake it for conscience, which is why it's mostly taken for granted. But if you believe in God and are just looking to know right from wrong like most everyone else, then that's the Spirit leading you in the right direction. And, oh yes, that Spirit will definitely grow stronger with your conviction and understanding of God's will and purpose. :)

I believe it is through the word of the Lord that we receive the Holy Spirit, and the more the word becomes a part of us the stronger the Holy Spirit is in our life.

I base this on the first verse of John :In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

We know that God created everything except humans by the word, Humans were created with God's hands. God's power and God's words are in scripture.

Psalms 33 explains:
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars;
he puts the deep into storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord;
let all the people of the world revere him.
9 For he spoke, and it came to be;
he commanded, and it stood firm.

You cannot feel it in your flesh because it happens in your spirit. You put your faith in the Word of God that states

Ephesians 1:13
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

So yes, it happens "immediately among believing on Jesus for salvation".

You receive the full HS after you believe, it does not become stronger or weaker, as you renew your mind after you are saved.

I was a believer for many years. I even preached a few messages at church and led men’s ministry. About twelve years after coming to Christ I got laid off from work for a while. I had more time in the morning to meditate and pray. I wouldn’t eat breakfast because I was intermittent fasting for training. As I sat still emptying my thoughts and praying to the Father for wisdom and understanding it happened. The Spirit washed through me. It felt like when you are underwater for a long time then come up for air...sort of. I don’t know if that has anything to do with baptism.

It’s like this. When there is a magnet (God) you can see as it hovers over paper clips, the magnetic force (Holy Spirit) moves the clips around. When the magnet touches the paper clips, the force moves through the clips and the paper clips become magnetic, perpetuating the force. If the clips stay attached to the magnet for a long time they get to be weaker magnets but it fades. They are stronger attached to the magnet. During the time I sat in silence I experienced the full force of the Spirit. It moved in me. I felt it heal me. It taught me. Every question I had was answered. I was in communication and communion with God. Those who have experienced this understand. I really don’t know if this is what others have described as enlightenment. My life hasn’t been the same since. I feel like I am connected to a larger whole, the Body of Christ. I can’t wait to die, and shed this fleshy prison to be fully immersed in that peace.

To HAVE eternal Life is to HAVE the Holy Spirit: Here is your answer:

1 John:5 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—[a]our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Further in this Chapter:
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of [c]God which He has testified of His Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has [d]life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may KNOW that you have eternal life, [e]and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

How do you know you have the Holy Spirit inside of you?
Romans 8:16 - The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

When does one receive the Spirit? Is it immediately among believing on Jesus for salvation or later on?
Ephesians 1:13 - In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. This happens immediately upon believing in Jesus as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation.

Faith is like Two Old Dogs constantly battling with in you. One is good... The other is not. If you ever wonder which one is winning just ask yourself, "which one do I feed the most?" The spirit will become more prominent within you, as will your conviction, as you continue your walk in faith. Otherwise, we would not be able to tell the difference between the milk and the meat.

How do you know you have the Holy Spirit inside of you? When does one receive the Spirit? Is it immediately among believing on Jesus for salvation or later on?

My thoughs on your questions are as follows:

When does one receive the Spirit? Is it immediately among believing on Jesus for salvation or later on?

Salvation

Acts 10:
43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

(NOTE: vs 43, Whomever BELIEVES receives remission/PARDON of their sins. vs 44, Clearly these gentiles believed & IMMEDIATELY they received the Holy Spirit. Eph 1:13 mentioned a few times in this thread teaches the same.

How do you know you have the Holy Spirit inside of you?

Faith & Sanctification

Romans 16:26 but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from faith
(NOTE: Gentiles are brought to obedience/repentance/godly living thru Faith)

Rom 1:5 Through him we received grace & apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.
(NOTE: Faith leads us to obedience)

KJV Dictionary SANCTIFICA'TION definition: The act of making holy, the act of consecrating or of setting apart for a sacred purpose.

So, to sanctify, something is to set it apart for special use. The moment we believe/trust place our faith in Christ's Sin atoning death, burial & resurrection. God saves/judicially justifies (sealing us via His Holy Spirit) & sanctifies (sets us apart, for a work/mission Eph 2:10).

At the moment we truly make the decision to trust Christ we are justified/SAVED (DONE DEAL). Our salvation is forever secure. Also, at this same point in time: Salvation/receiving the eternal seal, God's indwelling Holy Spirit, we are also SANCTIFIED (set apart for a sacred purpose) BOTH at the same time.

However, Sanctification is a process, that continues, "which we must work through" (Phil 2:12) until the day of our final redemption. When we meet the Lord & receive a new incorruptible/heavenly body. This reply is My Opion only!

I can only speak for myself----
The moment I was saved, He was there and has been present with my spirit every moment since that night in 1962.
I feel His constant presence which assures me that I am never alone because He will always be with me.

It is not for me to judge, but I am concerned for anyone who does not fell His ever presence with their spirit.

This is a complicated question, I don't think there is just one answer. It isn't that either you have the Holy Spirit within you or you don't.

I feel sure I was given the Holy Spirit within me when I was three living with people who simply didn't consider God worth any thought. I simply knew there was a God and as soon as I was able I would find out about Him. After 90 years of living I still recall exactly when it happened, where I was standing, and what I did about it. The Holy Spirit was a strong power in my life, even then, but I was a baby in the word.

The Holy Spirit works through the word, and that word is all of God. With the word our world was created, Christ is the word, and we are given words of the Lord in scripture. We are told of babies in Christ, and those are people who have not studied His word or made the word part of their life. In those words is the Holy Spirit.

Another way of asking about the Holy Spirit within you is asking how much the word of scripture do you know and apply to your life.

To know Jesus is to have the Holy Spirit.
Knowing Jesus is faith in the cross, repenting of ones sins, walking in obedience to His commands,
having His joy, and praise in ones heart, being cleansed and purified through the blood, and presence
of God moving in your soul.

We are born of the Spirit, so what we know is that peace and joy that comes from Him, as we dwell
in the most High. Coming to faith is only possible by the Spirits work in us, so we know if we have
come to faith we have the Spirit in us.

14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God,
for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment:
1 Cor 2

9 And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
Rom 8

14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you--guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
2 Tim 1
