I had a girflfriend from NZ I still talk to online as regular friends.

On voice, she was completely indecipherable to me.

Mel has a very lovely and soothing accent.

Yeah, Sounds like she's eating cake!

Is that one of those accents where it is impossible to separate the words, and the speech is sounding like a hurried creek in the spring time.

I know some people from Mississippi and Alabama, and they sound like that. Steadily having to ask them to be opening their mouths when speaking lol.

How much are you going to charge to teach lessons to us unfortunate souls who have enough nothing to offer but a boring, "I hear it everywhere" accent from the midwestern USA?

I just KNOW I'll find "Mr. Right" if I can learn to put on a sexy Kiwi-ian accent!

He did well with most of the accents but stretched some of them, like the Aussie one and 7&8 almost sounded the same.

His asian attempts were a good chuckle.

I get that confusion too, I know there’s also that type of ‘redneck’ accent, Eli gives a good accent of that lol.

Free lessons, woot woot!!!

I have a very boring, undistinctive, almost-any-American-on-TV-or-in-a-movie has it accent. Oddly, I've heard it referred to before as an "Ohio" accent, even though I never lived in Ohio. They also said in school that programs for broadcasting actually teach this accent in the classes if you don't already have it. It's a great accent for others; for me, not so much. I always wanted something a little more exotic, to go with my personality.

I grew up in the North, and the saddest thing I ever saw was when Southern friends were transplanted to the North and somehow made to feel ashamed of their accent. They would spend years trying to erase it, which I thought was a terrible tragedy.

I personally consider it a tragedy that I'm not very good a imitating accents at all (I grew up in the States so I can't even do a passable rendition of an Asian accent.)

Funny enough, a good number of the friends I've made here on CC are from the South, which I've always been fascinated with. It's almost like God's trying to tell me something.

Aussie and Kiwi accents have always been two of my favorites, along with Welsh, Irish, Scottish (I would love to go to every country in the UK someday, mainly for the accents!), and in the past several years, French, Italian, Spanish and Mexican... Shoot, just about any accent is magical to me as long as I get enough time to learn to understand it. To me, a good accent is like a favorite melody of a good song, and something that can be played over and over.

I always said that the right person with the right accent could chew me out night and day, and when they were finished, I'd just sigh dreamily and ask them to say that all over again.

Some people don't know a good thing when they have it...

Kim they teach reporters that accent so people will listen to the news instead of making fun of the reporter. People automatically ridicule accents that are not their own. I'm not sure why, but they do. But you have the one accent that will get by anywhere at all without being mocked... and you want to change it? What in the world is WRONG with you?!

Yup. Mebbe so.

When I came back from Belgium, it took a year to stop dreaming in flemish, though I never fully learned the language.
I cant remember how long it took to stop speaking in broken english.
And sometimes when I speak it sounds gailic, though I was sure I spoke in english.

And of course there is my redneck side, hahahahahahahaha

First of, what's wrong with me? Well, how much time do you have...

Second, I think it's a complete tragedy when people get made fun of for their accents. I understand maybe poking fun at friends for the way different things are pronounced different ways, but for example, Southerners who feel they have to erase their accents - it should be a crime.

"Jeet yet?" = Did you eat yet?

"Nope. Djoo?" = No, did you?

And yes. I really am so Northernized that the Southern folks had to explain this to me.

I’m from Texas so I maybe should know what you and Seoulsearch are saying here, but frankly, lynx’s one is decipherable, but what are you saying, Seoulsearch????

I’ll just have to blame my ignorance on French (Cajun French that is, so that one would want French classes based on my language skills lol) being my native language lol.
