When a Spirit filled person prays in the Holy Spirit that is praying in tongues this is angelic.
When a Pentecostal Christian speaks forth in tongues at a meeting this is an unknown tongue. It may be archaic; it may be angelic,
or it may on occasion be another earthly tongue for new person who has come into the congregation.
But the gift of diversity of tongues is always followed by the gift of interpretation.

erm

now you know I pray in tongues Waggles, but where does scripture say it is an angelic language?

and just when you liked 2 of my posts :cautious:

Its the signified eternal as spoken in verse 1 of Revelation 1. The kind of language or tongue of the gospel 3000 new born again soul heard it ….as it is written called prophecy. The new manner called tongues.

What else could it be. The gospel is the new tongues that followed all 3000 souls and is still doing it works of faith today giving men ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the denominations.

Look up to the things of God or look down to the things of men? One master.

2 Corinthians 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

I would not explain to you something that was already explained to you. Mark chapter 16 Jesus speaks says "17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; "

Shall speak = laleō which means Verb : to utter a voice or emit a sound

New = kainos which means: recently made, fresh, recent, unused, unworn

Tongues=glōssa which means: Language or Dialect

The context did not change in Acts 2 or any other records in the Book of Acts.

1cor chapter 12 to 14 is clear the Holy Spirit is the one imparting the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The work of the Holy Spirit is not temporal in the believer. HE abides with HIM or HER as Jesus said HE would in John chapter 14 and 15. The gifts are also not temporal because the Holy Spirit is God who changes not.

That is why Jesus said in Mark 16:17 and in Matthew 28:19-20 Luke 24:49 and John 20:22
And Spirit filled believers do speak with a new tongue. A new tongue as part of the new creature resulting from the new birth in Christ. They speak a new language which is the language of the gospel of Christ a gospel of salvation by grace through faith. A language not understood by those who are unsaved and in need of one to teach them of Christ interpreting the gospel and allowing the Holy Spirit to exercise His power to convince of sin, righteousness and the judgment to come.

Simply fabricated rubbish. There is not one record of angelic tongues in the bible. Many if not all Christians when they pray, they pray in the Holy Spirit to the Father in heaven. God hears the fervent effectual prayer of the righteous.

can you first please remember I am not speaking to you. And you clearly do not understand what Spirit-filled is. Your attempt to refute what I have said would suit you better if you used the Word of God. Leave this conversation with those who are more equipt. At least when I am not speaking to you. I did not say Spirit-filled believers speak with new tongues. your response is bias and ill-informed.
Thank you.

Speaks forth tongues as prophecy ?or sounds with no meaning?

Does a Spirit filled person look to the foundation of the doctrines of God. Or does it takes years of mini fill-ups as oral traditions of men, once or twice a week marked by falling back in the spirit. The kind of filled person that seems to get top heavy and falls backward.?

What kind of a sign is that?

If you were as astute as you see yourself you would comprehend a correct interpretation to your reference to Mark 16. Alas you only consider yourself to be the authority on bible interpretation.

Thanks for the query . We can begin by looking to the foundation of tongues it gives His meaning . Are you ready?

Isaiah 28:11-13 King James Version (KJV) For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.(cessationists) But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

It would seem they refuse to hear God as those who cease to believe The cessationists vs continualists. Why is he mocking, deriding them that are pictured falling back ? You turn .

Well finally someone who can explain it clearly and dispassionately.....okay so I agree with most here but this needs to be expanded a bit.

There are two areas to consider...."the gift" and "the language."

Let's deal with the language, is it earthly (temporal) or from the the spiritual realm?

LOl The class clown.

Not fond of sponge Bob. Casper is my hero.

Have you looked to the foundation of the doctrine? Or is more fun to turn spiritual eternal things not seen into a reward seen for someone to confirm something? Its sound like self edification or self righteousness is the sponge Bob key .It goes right along with the sign gifts, wonderment seekers same avenue. A real pride builder.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

The foundation is on page #1130 .Its an open book test giving me a chance at it. Four years fifth grade four hardest years of my life .

Why clown around looking for a marching band? Get in step with the foundation of faith . Left right left walk by faith.

It is the spiritual realm. Your consciensce mind is not speaking.
The Holy Spirit is praying on your behalf in a spiritual language everything about you directly to Jesus and the Father.
People with brain tumors who cannot talk lucidly can pray in tongues with ease.

Have you never noticed that the letters about things like how to test spirits (during prophesyings) and how to use gifts were written to the church, about the church? If gifts weren't intended to be in the churches, there would be no need to teach people how to use them. Like how to discern whether to use prophecy or tongues for example. And if all they needed to do was hear a prophecy and declare it false, there would be no need for "prove all things, hold fast that which is good".

These warnings and teachings are needed where these things will be operating. Not where they won't be.

The videos most people post simply verify that it doesn't matter who or how big of a church someone is related to... until discernment and proper use of the gifts are learned, the results can be cringe worthy (if looking at it from certain perspectives). Babes need to grow up.

I'll not try to butt very far into your conversation with CS1 but wanted to say this much so you hear it from multiple sources... the language comes from God, not us.

It's kind of an odd thing learning to yield our tongue to pronounce syllables real-time as God gives them. To say it one way, it's a passive experience. We allow the words to pass through us (so to speak).

Hope that's helpful instead of distracting.

A couple times i noticed i was speaking some asian sounding language.

One thing seems evident. Those opposing the gifts seem to be 80-99 % mental in their entire walk, including their approach to God and his Word.
An interesting component is that Peter knew tongues were from God right away.
He heard many languages that sounded like gibberish to his natural ears.
How did he keep in correct posture and attitude?
The spirit bore witness.
The Holy Spirit.
Cessationists are in way over their heads.
They can not understand the things of the Spirit because they are not mentally discerned.

That is why a good man, R A Torrey, could pronounce ichabad over Azusa Street.
He missed it BIGTIME.
Almost seems impossible.
Seymore would preach and speak in tongues in a pioneer work so powerful both the assembly of God,and COGIC ,world wide, were birthed.
It was reported that so many were slain in the Spirit, they appeared as "fallen trees" on the floor.

We saw this in the nineties at Brownsville.

I remember a famous attacker in the eighties. Jimmy Swaggart.
He attacked several preachers.
He stood as a man of God,with attacking fierceness, bludgeoning other ministers.
He went down in flames.
Shipwrecked.
Hank Hannegraff the same.

I believe the likes of Washer and Mcarthur,Poonen, and others will suffer the same fate.
That spirit is not sustainable.

she sounds like she is speaking gibberish.
It has to be made up gibberish. My mind tells me so.
I am no authority on Swahili but since it SOUNDS like gibberish It must be,because in my mind it sounds like it.
I wont take any advice or facts. My preacher told me it was fake and made up.
Poor lady is deceived and thinks she is communicating.
....but not me,,,,no,no,no. I trust others opinions that never been to where she is.
....and dont confuse me with any facts or evidence. My preacher told me the TRUTH. ...and we have a huge investment in our paradise of conclusions

I'll reply to this in the spirit of meekness because I was one that was very analytical in my approach to God. It was good in some ways but made it difficult to receive spiritual things (like speaking in tongues) because they are foolishness when viewed by natural thinking. It doesn't initially make sense to us that God would use something that we can't understand without spiritual intervention.

It's like the washing of the feet for Peter. He had to submit himself to it before he would understand.

Having a strong intellect is a bit like having great riches. It's good for some things but can actually be a great hindrance if we rely on it too heavily.

And like great riches, God may be saying to some that they need to let go of their reliance on intellect if they really want to be perfect. (Matthew 19:16-24 , 1 Corinthians 3:18(-20) , 1 Corinthians 1:25-29 <-- tongues is one of those base things foolish in the sight of men, 1 Corinthians 2:4&5 <--tongues is also one of those things that isn't of or by the wisdom of men but is a demonstration of the Spirit and power (see day of Pentecost - Acts 2)

And as you are saying, it is well nigh impossible for people who have a heavy reliance on "what makes sense to their mind" to receive things that don't make sense to the mind (until after we've submitted to it).

Praise God that Peter was able to submit himself to what didn't make sense to him in order to receive what Jesus had for him.

Love in Jesus,
Kelby

A person who has studied linguistics can make a determination whether this is a language or any utterances are a language.

As well, most all languages have been documented and studied except perhaps that one tribe, the Sentinelese who are so hostile no outsider has been able to be among them and survive.
