How to spot a modern Pharisee
You may be a modern Pharisee if you....
1. Tout how spiritual you are in public.
2. Criticize others who are not in your clique.
3. Be a part of a clique.
4. Point out other peoples flaws. (You really should get that log out of your own eye first)
5. Gossip and talk down about others because it makes you feel superior.
6. Call other people unflattering names for the same reason.
7. Push your opinion or conviction but ignore commands like 'love one another'.
8. Ignore people when they are truly in need, especially if it doesn't fit your agenda.
9. Talk a good game but really never put it into practice.
And the number one way to spot a pharisee or to determine if you are a Pharisee is...
10. Wanting everyone to think your above reproach when you are filled with the same lust and errors as the ones you condemn.

Due to our remaining sin nature, I'd say there's a bit of Pharisee (I'm so fair you see) in all of us.

I'll make it short and sweet ;)

if we want to understand the Pharisee mindset, then consider their behavior

they rejected Christ over their tradition and religion

We all act the part at times no doubt. However I am not talking about the ancient Pharisees but the modern version. Its still the same mindset/attitude. We all need some self examination I reckon.

Yes, often our thoughts are similar, "God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, self righteous, rigid, traditionalists, dead, or even as this pharisee." (see Luke 18:11)

I would add offer as to the nature... Insist men must follow them seen .or kill the misperceived competition like Cain in the garden walk by sight .Kill the messengers of the gospel.

Out of sight out of mind law of the Pharisees with Sadducees . Two sects that put aside their differences a shared their hatred for all things Witten in the law and the prophets (sola scriptura) A mark of the Pharisees with Sadducees . It can be compared today to the Roman Catholic church and the Eastern Orthodox they but aside their differences to try and make sola scriptura their mutual nemesis without effect.

Acts provides the best picture of nature of the Pharisees... as law of the fathers (law of men) in full battle array . Best schools, right kind of flesh, upside down zeal for knowing God. (no faith)

Acts 22 King James Version (KJV) Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you. (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,) I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, (laws of men) and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

First off AmosMoses, welcome to Christian Chat. I hope you'll enjoy your stay here. I would add another point toward being a Pharisee:

11. Push your religious traditions that trump an anointing of the Holy Spirit.

I once did a proofreading course, i did complete it but felt like such a Pharisee afterwards cos I had to look for mistakes in everything. Of course, I make typos all the time.
I didnt end up being a proofreader but there is a place for them, not a job I really want to do though! But some people are like that, perfectionists. But even in proofreading there are different schools and styles.

One space or two, comma or hyphen? Is it grammatically correct? Why not just use spell-check? Autocorrect is really annoying or predictive text, I would rather just say what I mean and risk being wrong than have someone else say it for me and constantly correct me.

Look in the mirror and you are falling for the greatest trick of them all.
That we have the sight to see what we are and what we do.

Our freedom is in exercising love and forgiveness. It literally does not matter who is around
us, that is their responsibility. Ours is to be Jesus to them, and to learn how to see that which
is worthy of praise and to ignore the rest. Others will quite quickly pull each other apart because
that is the nature of sin, "I am not as bad as you, ha....."

Once you see wounded people are the most vocal and obvious, and those quickest to lash out,
you will begin to see what needs to be done. Ministry to the hurt and dying, support and care for
those carrying burdens they can hardly lift, while appearing to be walking on clouds.
