In looking for the best, most succint way to express His Agape love, I found this and it made good sense in nailing it home for me. Christ was nailed so we would have a home with God.

Agape speaks of the most powerful, noblest type of love: sacrificial love. Agape love is more than a feeling—it is an act of the will. This is the love that God has for His people and that prompted the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus, for our sins. Jesus was agapelove personified. Christians are to love one another with agape love, as seen in Jesus’ Parable of the Good Samaritan(Luke 10:25-37).

I'd love to read your own view points.
In a relationship, love is a two-way contact.
As Christian’s we must first: Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
“Neighbour”: according to this passage of scripture: Luke 10:36-37 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise. Our neighbour is “Mercy”
John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
“Keepeth them”: James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
When we read, share, our lifestyle (action speaks louder then words) to God’s Word, we are expressing/proof of our love towards Him, as King David: Acts 13:22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
As believes when we fulfil our part in this relationship God will: John 14:21 ……………………… he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

I agree. I got one question though, how does the verse that says "will manifest myself to him" JIVE with the Apostle PAUL? Who was persecuting Christians and still got a special visitation. Or is he more an EXEMPTION to the rule?

Paul was classic.Reading the scriptures Paul/Saul was a Pharasee: Acts 23:6 ..................... Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question. Acts 26:5 Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. Paul before he was converted believed in the God of Israel. Was it love? Paul was very zealous in his belief to the point he was willing to kill for his faith. After Saul became Paul, he had a greater impact (my views) of spreading/teaching the gospel then the disciples.

Such a powerful verse...

Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him."
John 14:21 ESV, the promise to manifest Himself to us brings such empowering hope.

Charli,
it is a 'reciprocal relationship, if we keep ourselves in The Love of God by Loving one another,
God keeps us in His Love - if we purify our hearts the best we can, then God purifies our Hearts
the best He can, for He is The Author and Finisher of our Faith...

in times past, I've done my very best to 'over-come' many weaknesses, yet, I could not achieve,
and so, God stepped-in, and stretched-out His arm and gave me what I was lacking...

When I read that verse, it speaks to me that by looking for the mercy that He has offered to all freely by believing and then receiving, will keep us in the love of God. Or in love with God. First love.

Hopping in bro.

For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden. Romans 9:15-18

They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. John 16:2-3

We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

Sadly, so many on this forum esp on another thread are like Saul persecuting the church and like wolves in sheep's clothing attacking and devouring, while claiming to know God, they think that they're serving God with that.

Just a bit disappointed reading from that thread so just hoping to find some truth and LOVE here.

Have a nice day and God bless.

5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has
been given to us.
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

Jesus' love while on earth is the love of God, and He is God manifest in the flesh, which means that God manifest all His attributes to the man Christ Jesus, and He is the personal human body of God.

However Jesus acted on earth is the same love that applies today for we are under grace.

God is not causing natural disasters as some might think, and only touches people for good, although bad things will happen but it is because of people, or because of things running their natural course, or they do not have God's protection for they choose the world, and God could allow things to happen to the saints for it is the way of the world, or to strengthen them.

But we cannot be like Job who thought nothing bad should happen to him because he was living for God, and that is how he erred, for things might happen that is bad in a Christian's life, and it is not coming from God.

God said be ye holy for I am holy, so however God instructed us to live on this earth in dealing with people is the love of God towards people.

Love works no ill towards their neighbor, therefore love is the fulfilling of the law, which Jesus fulfilled that law, so we could have the Spirit and do the same and be saved like the man Christ Jesus.

The Bible says no greater love has a person than this, that they lay down their life for their friends, which Jesus laid down His life for us.

And God cannot lie, cannot ever go against a promise, for His nature would not allow it, so we can be assured that God will give us eternal life as He said and will never forfeit that.

But I wonder if many people do not believe in a God for that thought is too scary for them, for what if that God went against mankind for they could not stop him.

Like the movie Man of Steel, superman, where Lois Lane wanted to write a story on superman, and Perry told her do you know how people would react if they knew there was a person out there like that.

For it would be scary knowing that a person is out there that could tear up the world, which they did a movie Brightburn about a kid with the same scenario as superman but he went against the world for he was not forgiving as superman, and would not take their crap, and was going to take the world.

But God would never go against His saints, and never forfeit eternal life for them, and that is some awesome love, for humans go back on promises a lot and do not come through, but God always keeps His promises.

God said fathers correct their children for the father's pleasure, but God does it for our profit that we might be partakers of His holiness.

Very good post mystic7, I would point out the two great commandments also. The first one is easy to say. I love God! But how can we show Him we love Him? By the second, loving man: made in His image. The proof is in the pudding. On the original question: According to scriptures What is God's love? My answer would be the following:

John 15:13 "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." 5thumbsup.gif
