Hello JSM,

Why the rant?
Just FYI

'JSM' is short fo Jimmy Swaggart ministries.

MessageOfTheCross generally does not give his own opinion about things; he just posts quotes from the Jimmy Swaggart Bible or some other Jimmy Swaggart resources.

how in the world could you miss it?
It is like God vividly put it on a 50 ft billboard in your front yard.
Not only that Christ explicitly calls it a type of Himself in John 3 saying 'just as the serpent in the wilderness' He Himself must also be lifted up.

i can only assume that Jimmy Swaggart doesn't think it's a type of Christ therefore MOTC will not accept it as one either..?

Interesting take on the snake, though I’m wondering about the destruction of the bronze snake upon the pole because of idolatry of it.
Yeah I wonder about that too in conjunction with whether the cross - or an image of it - can also likewise become an idol? Clearly some people think of little cross trinkets as a sort of magical talisman - but can the idolatry go even deeper?

Not calling for an iconoclasm here but it's worth thinking about. Because, yeah, people did make an idol out of that brazen serpent, and they did the same with relics of wood which were thought to be pieces of Christ's cross

Yes the type is a cursed thing...a serpent...
Jesus became a curse for us.(in or place)
The sin of the world was upon him.

But the type is 2 fold.

They were healed physically. They were "saved" physically because they were heald physically.
In Jesus earthly walk He did hundreds/thousands of healings.
The new covenant is as centered on healing as it is spiritual salvation.

Jesus said "which is easier,to say to a man your sins are forgiven,or to heal"?

Then he healed him.
He ascribed both healing and salvation in one motion/thought.

The same with the brass serpent.
It is meant to portray healing as part of our covenant.
Salvation/devine health

Good point I dont know if trinkets are completely idolatry but some seem to take it to another level.

I say if a person is it to get one they need one from bahdos pretty affordable this one is on sale a easy 12,600 dollars a drop from 15, 750 dollars that’s a deal, 😂

Yes, that Serpent of brass was a clear type of Christ.
The "pole was a Type of the Cross, while the "serpent" was a type of Satan and sin. Jesus didn't go to the Cross because of love, grace, and goodness; He went because of sin. It was sin that had to be addressed, sin which had to be paid for, sin which had to be atoned. That's the reason for the "serpent."

For the people who had been bitten by the serpents, all they had to do was to look at the serpent on the pole, and when they looked, they lived! It is the same with Calvary.

When a person places his Faith in Christ and the Cross, he passes from Spiritual Death to Spiritual Life.

LOOK AT THE CROSS AND LIVE!

Also He came in the flesh, which is the thing that torments us - just as the thing is hey looked towards was an image of that which tormented them

And all they had to do to be healed was look to the image lifted up on a piece of wood - as looking to Him lifted up in faith is how we are healed

the "serpent" was a type of Satan
Next time you talk to Jimmy Swaggart please ask him to read this:

Numbers 21:6
And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

Then ask him if the LORD sent Satan to torment us because of our sin?

If Moses had failed to construct the brazen serpent as instructed, untold numbers would have died. If he had placed something on the pole other than a brazen serpent, still, untold numbers would have died, If he had failed to hold it up and take it among the people, still, untold numbers would have died.

That's the reason we preach the Cross, and nothing but the Cross (1 Cor. 1:23).

You among others continue to quote only the Letter, and don't have the foggiest idea, meaning, nor understanding of the Spiritual. This is called a form of godliness. Why? Because your faith is misplaced! Therefore truth will not be understood.

You're the one - that is, Jimmy Swaggart is the one - thinking serpent = Satan just because he sees the letters making up the word serpent. Not thinking about what is being represented - Satan lifted up on a cross?? Come on man. That's antichrist.

Satan in Numbers 21 is represented by the people grumbling, accusing God of evil, saying He brought them out only to kill them and their animals and children. It is the same lie as told in the garden.

But God sent the serpents to judge them.
Ask Jimmy Swaggart if God sends Satan to judge His people?

Funnily enough, Nicodemus would have absolutely no idea what Jesus was talking about.. Somewhat consistent with the rest of their discussion lol
IMO Nicodemus is often given less credit than he deserves. While it's true that at the time of John 3 he probably didn't intuit that Christ intended to be crucified, I rather think that by John 19 he had figured a lot out. This wasn't an idiot; he probably knew and understood the scripture better than anyone else in the sanhedrin - Jesus calls him "the" teacher of Israel, and who else among them came to Him to be privately tutored? Christ unlocked deep mysteries for him in John 3. I doubt that was wasted on Nicodemus - still just my opinion - but it wasn't for no reason that he was there ready with burial spices when our Lord's body was taken down from the cross to be ((temporarily)) laid in the tomb.

In Numbers 21:4-8 it is written that the Israelites grew impatient on the journey and spoke against God and against Moses saying: “Why have you led us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread or water, and we detest this wretched food (Manna)!” In regards to this, the LORD sent venomous snakes among the people, and many of the Israelites were bitten and died.

Then the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned by speaking against the LORD and against you. Intercede with the LORD to take the snakes away from us.” So Moses interceded for the people. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and mount it on a pole. When anyone who is bitten looks at it, he will live.” So Moses made a bronze snake and mounted it on a pole. If anyone who was bitten looked at the bronze snake, he would live.

When Nicodemus came secretly by night speaking to Jesus, He said to Nicodemus:

"Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life."

I have always loved this comparison. The Israelites who were bitten by the poisonous snakes would have surely died. But as soon as they obeyed the word of the Lord and looked to the bronze serpent that was lifted up, the poison, though coursing through their veins, had no affect on them. Looking at the serpent was an act of faith. In the same way, though we have sin which leads to certain death, when we look to Jesus who was lifted up (crucified), our sin which is comparable to the poison, will in the end, have no affect on the believer. Unfortunately, for those who do not look to Jesus, the results of sin will take its deadly course.

Great example. look and believe .Other times do not look and believe .

The Faith Zone .He controls the outcome . . to believe exercise faith. . or not to believe. . no faith

Nicodemus was taught by the only Teacher of Truth. All others, including Nicodemus, have been and are students.

It seems to me the Teacher did not waste any breath on any whom He taught. When He speaks, He is understood.

The discourse was used to represent that which was temporally holy. When the work, the twinkling of the eye it was done its lost its effect. Those who walk by sight used it as a idol image in a hope it was still working like the fountain of youth .

But like Mount Sinai it was set aside as holy used as a one time event . It was ground up and fed to those who walk by sight. It came our as draught and was covered up with dust. Outdoor plumbing.

If what the eyes see defile a person then it sure cannot create anew. Its simply good for. . . shockingly nothing .. .It must be covered up.

Mark 7:18-20 King James Version (KJV) And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
