If I were to criticise anything its that they stuck to their british routine and culture of leaving their children unattended while they went off and had fun. Upper class parents tend to do that...leave the child with the nanny or boarding school and expect someone elseto look after them for days and years on end.
Why they didnt hire a baby sitter or put them in the creche while they went out to have dinner am not sure because there WERE people available to do that, the creche closed at 11pm they just chose not to.

They had this idea that since the children were asleep, as long as they were checked every half hour, they would be ok. Well children under 3 are vulnerable. And I wonder why the twins were left they were under 2.

All the other parents knew this, and the couples they were with one would stay behind or have a baby monitor. Im not sure why they werent interviewed, and the staff at the resort...somebody knew they were leaving them sleeping alone EVERY single night for the entire week. The nannies who took care of them during the day knew. Why madeline did not scream and yell when or if someone took her is curious. Was she really exhausted or was she drugged? Or did she know that person and trusted them? The twins did not awaken. But the night before she was disappeared she did ask her mother why did you not come when sean (her brother) and I cried?

And her mother couldnt answer...its not like she could say um mummy and daddy are out drinking with our friends darling. If you want me you are going to have to scream louder so I can hear you.

And then they still chose to go out the next night.
Way more than a simple mistake. Its an epic fail.

Just want add, its easier in hindight to say what you would have done differently but let it be a lesson for parents everywhere.

For children that young they could have their naps during the day as they would do in portugal and spain they have afternoon naps even adults have siestas. Then they could all go to dinner together and stay out late. As long as they were close by even in their strollers they could just be sleeping next to the parents when they got tired. But children that are 3 when they need to go to bed they will tell you and then you need to go with them. Its really selfish just to stay and socialise when your children need to go to sleep and be safe at home.

The adults had all day to socialise together esp when they left them in the daycare so not sure why they had to go out every night as well.

Anyway how does this relate to child poverty well lack of shelter was one thing for these (rich) children, they just werent having their basic needs met to be safe and cared for. The thing with wealthy childrn ive noticed is some of those homes they live in are way too big.

They may live in a mansion but their parents are at the other end of the house they may as well be on a other planet in some of those homes.

Lan I don't know how old you are - you sound very young to me.
But parenting is never easy, under any circumstances. Do you have kids? Having multiple young kids around all the time as well is very difficult.
Yes the parents were irresponsible, but they simply made a mistake. We ALL make mistakes, sometimes with fatal consequences. You can sit here and go on and on endlessly about what they should or shouldn't have done, but we weren't in their shoes that night.
Maybe they'd been fighting. Maybe they were absolutely exhausted. Maybe they'd been drinking & just got slack - for all anyone knows, they could've been smoking or taking illegal substances that impaired their judgement. Maybe they suffer from a mental condition that they have kept from the public.
At least they were honest about what they had done, and I truly believe that they are not bad people.
They still deserve our compassion for the loss of their wee girl, who they may not ever see again in this lifetime.

I am from a family of four and dont remember my parents ever going off at night DELIBERATELY leaving us alone. I think one time my dad was not watching and my brothers (they are twins) were near the neighbours pool and could have fallen in and drowned but mum saved them and berated my dad for not watching them.

I never said they were bad parents but you know there is such a thing as good parenting and bad parenting and its just being honest that leaving young children unattended is simply BAD parenting. Also its actually illegal to leave a child under 14 unattended in my country. I dont know about the Uk.

I dont really have any empathy for mccanns sorry after reading the mums account. I have look after tons of children and they all come in the library at lunch time and sometimes drive me nuts but they all know they can call on me. I am not ever going to just leave them to their own devices for more than half an hour and they arent even sleeping. I eat lunch with them. Even if I cant see see whats happening with every single child all the time I am there!

If I need to go away I tell them where I am and that im back in 5 minutes and I have someone keep an eye on them.

I have sympathy for Madeline though because her parents were not around when she cried for them. Madeline is the one who deserves compassion, not the parents who neglected her all week long and only found she was gone too late. Sorry but I just cant summon up any compassion for the parents as nobody can bring her back to them. Its like the two mums who claimed the child was there's and asked king solomon who said cut the child in half! One mum said ok and the other said NO! Give her to the other mum. Which one was the real mother?

You know our Heavenly Father says noone can snatch us out of his hand. And why is that because he really is our Father in every sense of the word. So when our earthly parents fail us, we can look to Him. Even if we are faithless, God is always faithful.

The find madeline fund...all the people that gave money to her cause, well the money was actually used to pay the mmcanns mortgage. The more I read about it the more am puzzled.
The parents also lied about what happened claiming someone broke into the apartment window when they had actually left the doors unlocked so anybody can get in. So yea. Not feeling too compassionate about those parents. They do still have their twins though, nobody took them and you just pray that they have grown up ok.

I had thought that debt was a big factor in why people (and whole countries) are poor, because even if people are working, they can work their whole lives and never repay that debt. And then theres inflation and interest.
The governments control both taxes and inflation. When taxation and inflation are too high, people do not have enough disposable income, and therefore go into debt. Had all currencies maintained the gold standard, inflation would not exist, since it is a manipulated factor. If taxation was a flat 10% with no exemptions and deductions, and applied only to those with annual incomes above say $50,000, that would have a tremendous impact. And any kind of sales tax on essentials (including fuels) would need to be eliminated.

48 questions from the police kate mccann refused to answer. Why not? They were simple enough questions. It wasnt trying to implicate her but rather to get to the bottom of what happened I would think. But Gerry was the last person to see madeleine alive not sure why he wasnt questioned.

https://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/news/w...he-48-police-questions-kate-didnt-answer/#ath
.

Anyway. Am still shocked about it all. Her memoir never really addresses those questions either. After her daughter vanished her husband went all over the world To campaign about their missing daughter.

Because I dont know them and just an observer I suppose my opinion doesnt count for much, but asking God about it He gave me Proverbs 6:2 . What I think happened is her parents actually knew someone who might have taken her but arent talking about it. They might have said something offhand to someone else about ther daughter they met at the resort because then how would they know to take a child? That person woukd be known to madeleine or even be friendly with her. They needed to go through all the people they met at the resort to see if they had any conversations or interactions with anyone that could have led to her disappearance. But in the memoir, there was nothing about that.

Yes good point, not sure why govts arent holding to gold standards anymore. Its ridiculous. Isnt it called fiat currency. Where you make money out of thin air basically?

Have started reading a book called child poverty in new zealand.

By Jonathan Boston and Simon Chapple.

Both of these authors are researchers and professors involved in govt policy. I think that its one thing for parents to look after their own children. But if they dont have the means to, then people in power, eg those that can make policy, can alleviate the worst aspects of poverty. I dont think poverty can ever be eliminated, but things can be more equitable surely.

Is the real problem not poverty but simply poor parenting? But then say if your parents dies and you are still a child, or BOTH parents die, is that poor parenting? They should not have died? They made a choice to die? A hard one to answer. Suppsedly parents do say in their wills who their next of kin is should something happen to them. Theres also grandparents, two sets of them in many cases.

If looking at mccanns case, that was simply poor parenting because the parents were actually well off and could afford holidays all the time. They just simply chose not to look after their children and leave them sleeping by themselves. Not just one night but every night. Materially, those children wanted for nothing but emotionally it was everything.

I sadly don’t know.... I know there are some who have children when they can’t afford to feed themselves... But the most heart breaking is when people abandon their children and the little ones must fend for themselves.

Yes still thinking about madeline mccann. I wonder if shes still alive and where she would be now.

I only know of children whos parents are so out of it that they just forget to go to grocery store and buy food. If its solo parent mostly. But I dont think I know any who actualy cant afford to...but them they would move to a cheaper place where they dont have to pay exorbitant rent. I think rent is pretty much dead money. If theres nowhere they can find, and their family wont take them in, its then they can end up homeless.

A friend says around her area theres street after street of empty houses, because the owners are landbanking them. Basically they are waiting for the land values to rise so they can sell them and make proft. What a disgrace. this is The ugly side of of capitalism. And people thought communism was bad.

What to do about it?
I just wondered if anyone had any ideas about it.

Maybe start with basics, food and shelter. Why are some children going hungry, or cold? I dont believe parents want to deliberately starve their children or not keep them warm. Is it bad parenting, or is it to do with just not being able to provide. Or is it more to do with solo parents, as two parents can manage better than a solo parent, even if the two parents are poor.

Why is there such a gap between rich and poor these days. Can policy change things, or must we accept that is the way things are. Why should children be born into this, when they have no choice? Do rich people have any responisbilty to look after those less well off?
There is a bigger gap between rich and poor because the world is motivated by selfishness, and self exaltation, and money and material things of what one possesses is a good self exaltation tool, and can obtain power to them to add to their self exaltation.

And they can never have enough in their quest to exalt themselves for if they are being selfish, and being self exalting, there is no limit to that for why would they stop at a certain point if that is their quest.

If they do not care if a thousand people starve why should they care if a million people starve.

And even the poor want to have that so they are just as guilty even though they do not have it.

Even the homeless people on the street have that attitude, hey man check out my 2 box apartment, and I have 5 cans, oh that's nothing man I have a 3 box apartment with a window view of the alley and 10 cans.

That is they way of the world and they will not cease nor is their exalting themselves over other people ever enough, and they will not stop which is why the world rebels against God at the beast kingdom.

Pro 30:11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
Pro 30:12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
Pro 30:13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
Pro 30:14 There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

The last generation of mankind which will devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men, for they will heap, and heap, and reap, and reap, all to exalt themselves, and will not give a care for those in need.

Which human nature is no different but they could not be self exalting to this level before, but technology caused money and material things to flow like a raging river, and they can reach out to more people to make money even the world, and fleshy pleasures to enjoy, and worldliness to devour, and all the good and fleshy things that money can buy, and it kicked the selfishness, and arrogance, and self exaltation of people to a level that never could of been attained to in the past.

Mat 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Which after technology went on for awhile they became highly selfish, highly arrogant, and pursued after money and material things, and things of the selfish nature, and millions of dollars, and billions of dollars was not enough for them, and people wondered, and were amazed, and were mad to those who could not get it.

And then the attitude was people basic care about themselves with little regard for anyone else, so you do not care about me, I do not care about you.

And then the attitude was get all you can get and forget everyone else and the business man said would you care about me if I was on the street, and they charged ridiculous prices for their products although people were barely making ends meet, and the marriages were not the same, and the people did not interact on the same kind level as the past, and trust was at a low.

For they stopped caring for the feelings of others for they viewed people as only caring about themselves, so they exalted themselves more because of it, and it became a vicious cycle through the years that they heaped and enjoyed so they did not like each other as much, which made them heap more and enjoy more, which they did not like each other more, and it went round and round and now they will shoot you down and be violent towards people that only care about themselves.

And the new age movement loves it.

For they wanted to split them apart and make them individuals because individuals exalt themselves more because they are not together as they used to be like the 1950's, and they let that go on for a while.

And now they are ripe for the picking and they will strip the individuality away from them, and put them back together as one but with a different attitude than the 1950's, one of rebelliousness, wanting to have their own way, and highly self exalting.

The world suffers from what I call Cribitis, or the Baby Crib Syndrome for all you laymen out there, that even though they left the baby crib they carry that attitude with them throughout their life, wah, notice me, give me attention.

And because of that they will brag and boast, and be selfish, and arrogant, and self exalting, and want to look good in the eyes of people as somebody special and important loving every minute of it.

And they also carry the child attitude with them, show and tell, as they say look what I got all in an attempt to brag about themselves and say I am better.

And people like to mean to other people which is another bragging tool.

Are friends really friends, or are they people that we hang around so we can be mean to them by saying something mean or dogging them out and say, I am just kidding, but really we want to dog someone out and get away with it.

Are friends really friends, or is it a person we can brag and boast of our money and accomplishments, and we are so great all up in their face without them leaving for we are friends.

Alright I am kidding but you never know for the world operates by self exaltation.

Something to think about the next time you hang around your friends, lol.

2Ti 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

Pro 30:13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud.
2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded.

The world gets more selfish and arrogant as time goes on for that is the direction they are going.

Ever since Adam and Eve sinned the world has been heading towards the beast kingdom for it is inevitable.

1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Now they are so selfish and arrogant that they do not want to hear the Bible according to the truth as it has been preached for thousands of years, but believe it is the wrong interpretation, and want to hear it according to the occult and evolution, and people are still evolving which is their greatness and spirituality, and do not acknowledge a personal God, which paves the way to the beast kingdom in Revelation 13 where they rebel against God and He puts them down.

And so it is with money that they are so selfish, and arrogant, and self exalting that it is never enough for them no matter how much they have, and will devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

And the gap is bigger between the rich and poor for they can pursue way more money that in the past because of technology and they are gobbling up as much as possible leaving less for the poor that cannot get it like that.

People are trying to heap money to themselves and not caring about others from the common person to Bill Gates so much pursuing is going on.

So the common person is involved in this too although they cannot heap as much as the rich.

But there is more involved than only the mere heaping of money and it involves money being spent that is not being spent on the poor to cater to the fleshy pleasures of people which technology also caused to boom.

Which is make up, and products like that, and entertainment like sports, and music, and movies, and television, and all types of entertainment, and cruises, and vacations, and expensive clothes, and fleshy pleasures like cigarettes, and drugs, and alcohol, and all the things associated with spending money to cater to their selfish fleshy desires that the poor does not get, nor do they get fed and clothed.

Sounds like my brother he was very hard to live with. I wont go into it cos its too sad. Lets just say he cared more about his furntiure being scratched then my feelings and a roof over my head.

It has to start with Gods people.

2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV
[14] if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

My church is situated in a very poor area which statistically was within the bottom 1% of the country for deprivation.

Over the last few years we have done prayer walks, set up social events. Various people in the church have set up charities with the support and help of the church.

This is one of them

http://zarach.org/

We do outreach work children’s work, we are a CAP centre Christians Against Poverty

https://capuk.org/

Have a teen challenge outreach and much much more. It’s not just our church, all the church’s in the city help and support each other in these things.

The result is that only last week there was a meeting with city councillors and leaders, they invited one of the church pastors and said the area has now increased up to 3%.

Might not seem much but apparently it’s a massive headway and no other area on the county has jumped by 2/%

One of the leaders stood up and acknowledged it was all down to our church. Wow

Thats cool Miri, I have attended church where they do all sorts of ministires but also churches where they hardly did anything for the community. I was doing my library ministry at one church and they didnt like it. Cos it attracted 'unnwanted attention' and said it would be better off at a place like a community centre.

I thought what, so who is this church for, only the rich? They also disliked any notion of any community garden on their grounds cos they were gonna bust the church down and build a flash new one with bigger parking lot.

The other church took that scripture and prayer to heart and I could see the differnce. They never turned anyone away who was poor or homeless. The other church just treated people, like they were a nuisance. I had a hard time there until God showed me I didnt have to keep going there anymore.

i finished reading the book on child poverty in nz.

Just wanted to get my thoughts together on this after reading it.

The book suggested a few things but I found it actually a bit wishy washy on defining exactly what child poverty was.

the living wage is apparently based upon what you could live on one income if you had 2.5 children ie. an average family but that is based on averages, not reality, when families come in all shapes and sizes.

The other thing was to improve the economy so people had more steady jobs.

in times of recession, children are adversely affected. then it was suggested that there be a universal income for children, like how theres a superannuation for everyone aged 65 or older regardless of their income.

I dont know how that could work, or where that money would come from as taxpayers are already supporting the older population, which is much bigger than the current working population, the debt for that is just passed on to the workers.

the other thing was to make the tax system fairer and more equitable, currently its penalises poor people and gives to the rich. when it should be the other way round.

oh one more thing have a dedicated minstry for children, although I thought we already had one (used to be called CYFS.) although that seems to be only for children who are being made wards of the state. the authors seem to think wealthy children with two parents live in proverty when its just they cant afford a computer one year or shoes. maybe they went to a school where there were some really well off children and they were relatively poorer. well you are always going to get that where ever you go. If everyone is poor then nobody feels richer than anyone else I guess.

I guess these days means all the days of man kind.
Why because the fallen state of man because sin.
What to do about it? Feed kids. There is no human worldly solution.

This is too general to respobd to with one answer there are lots of reasons.

I read in in the US real income for the poorest part of tge population has gone up by $8000 in real dollars since 1970. That sounds good. It has gone up for the rich. That fits with Rawlsian ethics.
