Thank goodness you posted this, Miri.

Rumor has it that The Zombie Apocalypse (not just A Zombie Apocalypse, but The Zombie Apocalypse) is supposed to start on Wednesday, so you posted this just in time.

I even have a couple of days to practice.

That is awesome!

Say, maybe THAT'S how the Nameless Hero gets all those Salisbury steak cans open in the Fallout games.

I've always been within spitting distance of some store where I could get a can opener but I am quite glad to know this...

I've "mcguiver'd" a good few things but somehow was totally unaware that I needed to know this :)

I love it. Very good to know if you’re lost and have food but have lost tools. Heck you could even do that on a flat rock I bet too.

The way we used to open tight jars when I was a kid was to heat all around the edge of the lid over the stove and then grab a towel or something in case the lid is real hot, and open it. The heat makes the lid expand a tiny bit so it's not so tight. You can also use a lighter, but you'll have to hold it for like a minute.

Here's another way to do it using a butter knife. Skip to 40 seconds...

In addition to a flat tip screwdriver I had to resort using a hammer too. Out of frustration I finally learned how to operate the electric can opener properly. When shopping for can goods I also look for the cans that you can pop off the lid. Seriously, who has time for all of this drama? I used a manual kitchen can opener once but it was a cheap model and the handle broke off by the third can. On a related side note I once used a giant pair of pliers to get the lid off a jar of pickles. Not only was the lid removed but also most of the glass jar. Pity, as those were kosher dills. I'm not into sweet pickles.
