My spin is deteroiating as well went from 5'4 to 5"2.
It now causes left side sciatica, vaping CBD oil helps with the pain.

I feel for you,brother!
My head and my back are not going to have surgery ever!

I pesonally don't think fusion is the best way to go. I've nursed people that have had it and regret it. The theory is that you will have limited range of movement (ROM) after surgery, so the less you move, the less pain you have. But fusion doesn't always get rid of the pain. It doesn't have great success rates IMO.
I'd look into rhyzolysis first.
There are also other procedures you can try, such as shaving the nerve/s involved (to reduce it's excitability, therefore limiting, or getting rid of pain), and surgeons can also introduce a thecal catheter into your spine, whereby pain medication is introduced.
Anyway I guess your ortho bloke has gone through a few options with you. Yours may not be nerve pain exactly though.
Have you tried taking gabapentin or pregabalin for nerve pain?
thanks. very informative

Also try pain patches instead of tablets if you take stuff for pain, as tablets can give you lots of stomach upsets or constipation, etc, whereas pain patches are less invasive and last longer.

Its a fine line in my book.
Meanwhile I am feeling very sorry for myself after accidentally running into a chair collecting machine. Ouch my side. ive done serious damage. well, it hurts when I bend a bit, but otherwise.... mm...ok.. I will live but still.... poor me :)
May God bless you and relieve your paing. Just a mention, I have broken my back twice, that I know of, thre vertaagrae each time, lumbar and thoracic.

I have been blessed ever since…1959. Now I had some really painful repurcussions a few years ago. A VA ER attendant gave me a tip. If you are able to take ibuprofan do so UNTIL THE PAIN STOPS, IF IT WILL, AND IF AND WHEN IT DOES TAKE the Ibu one extra day in order to insure the theraputic results.

This certainly worked for me, but not necessarily for all, so becareful. My prayers are with you...that pain is really bad.

FYI, Ibuprofen should also never be taken on an empty stomach, as it can cause ulceration. Same with Aspirin.
Taking Ibuprofen and Panadol together works better too :)

I have used Ibuprofen only when needed for many years, decades even, with no proble. Well I did have one problem once. The time my back went out so bad I had to crawl around my house, and that on my belly, si when I called theVA and was given the treatment over the phone.

I was so happy to be able to stand and so eveything I took the med several days after only to get hives from taking too much….hives from head to toe. So yes, there are definite guideline for all drigs, otc and otherwise.

I have osteoarthritis also and spurs from collarbone to shoulder the patch really helps with that pain!
The sciatica not so much!

I worked in the health industry since I was 18, but now I'm older and MY body is my primary concern!

Thanks Tasha for Your thoughts!💕

My OA is in the cervicals and my shoulders. I have had dpains in other bones and I just figure at my age it is my going back a bit at a time to where I came from. No fun all the time but as others have confessed here, I know many have it far worse than I do. ¨God is good all of the time, yes sir, and I am sure you are more aware of this than most.
