Could you guys please keep me in prayer. Lately, I've had a bunch of things coming up from the past that have been really bothering me. Most are from when I was a teenager around the time my daughter's dad and I met and some is from the past couple years. I admit I was doing things I shouldn't of been back in the beginning of our relationship and I've made my share of mistakes and things I shouldn't of done too. I do know he was doing this too to an extent but I still feel so bad to this day and some of the things may not even be worth feeling like this over. Just feeling a lot of guilt lately and I've had no peace from it, I feel like a nasty person.

Why are you living in the past, when it's long gone and over with? Stuff happened that you can't change, so why are you trying to? Give your guilt to Jesus, and ask forgiveness. Then move on with your present, which is where you belong.

The Old Testament not only teaches us a historical lesson but also speaks truth to us today.

Isaiah 54:4
4 “Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame.
Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.
You will forget the shame of your youth
and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.

Isaiah 65:16
Whoever invokes a blessing in the land will do so by the one true God; whoever takes an oath in the land will swear by the one true God. For the past troubles will be forgotten and hidden from my eyes.

John 16:21
A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.

All of these have a simple truth that holds throughout time. That in God, in Christ we are forgiven and the chains of our past can enslave no more. We are forgiven and no longer bound by such sorrow and guilt. Christ has freed you by your belief, repentance and faith in Jesus's sacrifice that brought forgiveness of sin both past, present and future. We are free to abide in obedience and live into that freedom by letting the Spirit guide our lives away from sin and onward to glorification in Christ Jesus.

Live into that. Of course the consequences of past sin may still affect us but by no means does that mean we cannot change our perspective to a Christ centered perspective.

Gem, we've all done things in the past that we may be ashamed of. Making mistakes is how we grow as a person.
I don't know if you are still with this man you have been talking about lately, but I'd steer clear of him as much as possible, though I realise you share children.
When we live in the past, we miss out on so many fantastic opportunities that are right in front of us. I did this when I was younger, and now I'm older, I realise I wasted my time pining after a man who would never care for me how I wanted to be cared for. I turned down a date with another really lovely guy - he left me one message after that, hoping he'd see me again but if not, to take care. I never called him back and I regret it to this day. You know why? Cos I was stuck in the past, and pining over a bloke I'd known for a long time, & I didn't want to admit to myself that we'd probably never get together. I missed out on probably a wonderful opportunity.
Let me ask you this: if you stay living in the past, and regretting everything, where is that going to get you? This sort of rumination quite often leads to depression, & can cause clinical depression & other problems in the long run.
Please talk to someone non-judgemental about what you are feeling. This will get it all off your chest, and gives it less power over you in the long run.
I also find it helps to write a diary. That helps to get it all out physically on paper, then you can put it away somewhere safe, instead of brooding on the past all the time.
If you feel like you have to confess, contact the person/s you hurt by writing a letter to them, or phoning them if you think this will help. But this is exactly why the saying 'let sleeping dogs lie' came about - sometimes, we just have to accept we did some thing/s we regret, and move on.
It's all we have - that and heaps of prayer.

I have made my share of mistakes in relationship too so take comfort in knowing that you're not the only one. I am sure that you have already told God that your sorry so there is no need to carry guilt, that of which will hinder your spiritual development. You are certainly not a nasty person. I have kept you in prayer and will continue to do so. Right now, I will pray for God to give you joy in your heart and peace in your mind.

You are right Lady Blue, the present is where we all belong.

I’m so sorry you feel this way, Gemmy. I’m praying that God will fill you with the strength and peace only He can bring. May you experience His renewing grace and comfort in a powerful way as you lean upon Him. Blessings to your family.

Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
