Hi Mikhal, welcome to the forums!

I don't have any such experiences to share, unless you consider youth ministry to be a mission field. :)

Hello, I definitely consider Youth Ministry a Mission Field, an important one at that.

I have never been on a long term missions but have done short (one week) a few states away. Did it two different years. One year we scraped and wire brushed paint off a house that needed painting and then painted it.

The second year we replaced some roofs on a couple of houses. I didn't actually have any interaction with the residents of the homes but it was a good experience.

And what a huge blessing for the recipients

Can you define what mission is for those of us wondering or new to faith. Does it need to be just outside your own family to be considered mission, or is it more another country.

Or is it just something specific Gods called you to do.

I would define a Mission as accomplishing Work for the lord, whatever it be that he calls you to do :)
There are endless Mission Fields that can range from next door to you, to another country :)

How about this Mikhal: I remember thinking to myself when I was called to the Oakland, California men's drug rehab home at 3AM; what am I doing here? I would never have guessed I would be doing something like this for the Lord.

I am surrounded by a bunch of angry, tall black men ready to fight each other. They held a lot of respect for me and I was able to calm them without fighting. You see, I grew up in South-Central Los Angeles (Watts area) subject to a lot of racial fights. I was a blond-haired/blue-eyed symbol of everything my schoolmates hated. Now here I am keeping them from fighting each other. God sure works in mysterious ways.

I'm going with a mission that God called someone to do. Right now my mission is to take care of my wife, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and financially.

Well God did call me to help out with Bibles in schools. Initially my role was pretty small. I kept an eye on the children and said prayers with them. I also reminded them of the rules each time so the Bible teachers could tell the stories from the Bible without being interrupted all the time.

The rules were...and we did it every single time

When you want to speak, raise your hand
Interrupting is not a good idea
Now is the time to sit still and listen
Space Invaders no way!!

Then one day I was called to have a class on my own as one of the bible teachers fell ill. They are mostly retired grannies. I would say for the most fun you can have in half an hour each week, do Bibles in schools. We have stories, songs, prayers and games. And I had never taken a sunday school class or been to one. but God wanted me to do this as He knew I first learned about Him at primary school. I helped out in around three different schools every week. But some teachers would do more, some up to five.

Sadly we don't have Bibles in schools in America. And the current political and education climate being what it is, it seems highly unlikely that a similar program would be welcome in American public schools.

What a great experience. I wish America still had GOD in our Schools, The behavior of our Society clearly shows the lack of him.
