I didn't say that.
I said it suggests they had at one time been illuminated.
Unsaved people can be illuminated. And if they believe the illuminated person then becomes saved.
Illuminated all by itself does not mean saved or unsaved. It can refer to both an unsaved person and a saved person.
What is "illuminated?'

Where is this term used in the new testament?

Being despised and rejected will not save your either.
You just told me that beimg identified with Jesus in His suffering abd death will not save me. Has someone deceived you to make void the mesage of the cross of Christ. EleventHour: your name signifies, "Go also and Work in My vineyard and what is right I will give you." These are no longer babes in Christ: incapable of walking in the Love of God; called as servants of no reputation to become friends of God: those who are faithful will rule with Him in the Resurrection. A while back the Lord told me: I dont need your help.
I understood that many will remain as quarelsome babes in Christ and there is norhing I can do about it. So far, what your telling me is that your in fellowship with such quarelsome babes and not answering the call to, "Go also and Work in My vinyard," and instead of going, teling me to go. "Why you stand here idle?" This is my answer to you. I reetire this year from having to work for a living, to go and Work in my Fathers vineyard: Do the work of an evangelist. Fear not I Am with you. Pray for the anointing.

All your high sounding words, sentiments and grand notions about love are meaningless apart from the truth of Gospel.

Your works, your love, your devotion, your kindness, do not save!
Dont think that I disagre with yo or with God. "Without Love I am nothing." What is going on here in this not by works page is a confusion of language hat remains until we walk in the Love of Christ: The new comandment, "That you Love one another, as I have Loved you; that you also Love one another." Until then, we are divided (Babes in Christ are divided) and there is room for the autor of confusion.

When you encounter harsh words, people who mock you, laugh at you, issue condemnation, verbal attacks, as much as verbal may be construed on a message forum, maybe recall how the enemy, the tempter, applies slings and arrows against the Children of God so as to dissuade them from their purpose in Christ.
If the tempter spirit can get a Christian to speak their language, hate filled words, sarcasm, cutting pejoratives intended to hurt that Christian's feelings, etc..., they win a victory over that Christian who is suppose to be in peace, in Christ. It's like a game. If they can lead a Christian to fail in putting on Christ and being Christ like in their exchanges with people, they can then show that being a Christian isn't all it is cracked up to be.

Remember Jesus during his fast in the wilderness? The tempter was there trying to lead Jesus from his mission.
The Book of Matthew chapter 4:3 And the Tempter having come to him said, `If Son thou art of God -- speak that these stones may become loaves.'

Can you imagine? If Jesus had said to Himself, I'm so hungry, I think I'll do that. And did make those stones into bread, how pleased the tempter would have been.

Satan roams this world like a hungry lion seeking souls to devour.
What would lead us to think a website who's banner announces it is dedicated to Christ wouldn't gain the Tempter and his disciples attention?

Stay strong in the light my sister/brother. When God has your back, nothing can stand against you.
Don't follow where the darkness invites you to go. Don't be tempted to flee a Christian forum you enjoy , due to the harassment that comes your way.
If we can't stand against the enemy that comes at us through a keyboard, how will we fare in the world offline?
[hugs you]
(There's an ignore function on your profile. If you mouse over the name of someone you'll see a little drop down menu appear. There will be a button in the middle that says, "Ignore". If you depress that, nothing of the member you've chosen to ignore will appear to you anymore.
You will not know when someone is speaking to them in a thread, because that persons quoted post will not appear. Just as anything they write does not. But if you want to know to whom someone may be responding, just scroll down the page and you'll see a message at the bottom right of the thread page that says, "show ignored content". If you click on that message and then scroll back up the same page, you'll see the posts of anyone you have on your ignore list that have contributed to that thread.
Just an FYI. :giggle: )
Sometimes, the love of Christ post after post doesn't make a difference. Sometimes we have to save ourselves by ignoring agents of the Tempter.

God loves us! :) You have a right to participate on a forum without being insulted while you're there.
God bless you .
Whispered your refreshing, but so that you know, it dosent bother me that people despise and reject me, its good for us to sufer with Christ, but it bothers me that they are doing it to Christ. I dont put anyone on ignore for that reason. I would rather face and learn that I cant help anyone change and to come to God and be changed. A few years ago I was in an argument about Jesus being God and after leaving, the Lord told me: I dont need your help. Seems simple but a hard leson to learn: we cant help others walk in Love and must come to Him continually for help.
Dcontroversial admitted 3 years ago that he likes this page because its controversial. He admited this on another page he started, where there was no controvercy and people would lose interest. Neither does that bother me, after all we are called as fishers of men, except for those who are thaught that they cant take the bible out of context, for them this would only aply to Peter. Do you understand what I just said? Many are thought that the Word of God only aplies in the comtext writen and there is nothing for them to do, and there is nothing you or I can do to change that. Neither does God need them to go on to perfection to fulfil His purpose. Few are permitted to go on to perfection, few are willing to forsake their treasure in this life, for Grace to be multiplied so that nothing is impossible to them. "Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been." We are called to suffer with Christ and be missunderstood. Prepare your heart for an inner journey.
"Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many I say to you, will seek to enter in and shall not be able.”
"One thing is needful and Marie has chosen that good part that will not be taken from her."
Marie Magdalene expressed her appreciation waiting on the Lord. Her heart poured out to Him in thankfulness: as a fragrance of admiration worship and encouragement on His Journey to the cross. "One thing is needful and Marie has chosen that good part that will not be taken from her." Those exercised in Godliness comprehend this “One thing needful,” as the influence of Grace to wait on the Lord and not take things in our hands again: to persevere through uncertain times and be renewed. One thing, otherwise divided between achievements and Grace. "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but One thing I do; forgetting what lies behind and reaching forth, I press toward the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore as many as are going on to perfection be like-minded."

All over the place, "Watch how you hear, for to Him who does more will be given,"...
"As we walk in the Light as He is in the Light, we have fellowship one with Another and the blood of Jesus clenses us from all sin." "He that follows Me shall not walk in daekness." "Walk in the Light while you have the Light with you, for the darkness comes when no man can work."

No need for you to be concerned about me, neither do our concerns help. I hear from the Holy Spirit practially every day and neither does that save me. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are not a sign of maturity, Love is. Love is not mentioned among the gifts of the Spirit but as the Fruit of the Spirit; learning of Him to remain in His Love. And yes it has all been done for us at the cross, where God ended our life after the flesh so that "Without Love I am nothing." Nothing appart from the Body of Christ is Real: appart from Him we are an ilusion quareling among ourselves and there is only one thing we can do to change that, but some are thought that there is nothing they can do. Grace is the influence of God to forget our old life and go on to know Him. "One thing I do, forgetting what lies behind I go on,"...

I only take adjustment from the initiator of this thread @dcontroversal :) and you are not him.

Salvation not being by works is synonymous with salvation being secure .... if there was nothing we could do to earn salvation there sure enough is nothing we can do to loose it....since our works/righteousness/ law keeping have no bearing on either side.
They absolutely cannot comprehend that truth........the gifts (plural) and calling (singular) of God is IRREVOCABLE......they cannot grasp the truth of this statement.....there are so many truths that must be ignored and or taken out of context to peddle a false gospel that either has us earning it, keeping it, maintaining it or that it can be lost.....It is pure evil to degrade Christ, his work, his power, his promises and the eternal life given by him through faith and grace......it really does call or imply that both The Heavenly Father and His Son are liars......

No, In the greek, He said they do not LIVE or HABITUALLY sin.

Again, Study. John did not contradict himself.

John never said we stopped. He said we do not LIVE in sin.

A pharisee thinks he is not like the sinner, even paul called himself a sinner,

you do not understand the passage at all, it does not say you have ceased from sin
Amen......Jesus was clear when he said...there is none good, but God....he said this with saved, birn again disciples and apostles on the earth.....

There is not a just man upon the earth that does good and sins not.....John is clear and is addressing those that live a continual lifestyle of sin as opposed to believers that fail and sin, sometime horrifically like David did with Uriah and Bathsheba.....

No ones falls away from being saved.
What does that subject have to do with salvation not being by works (the topic of this thread)?
Salvation not being by works is synonymous with salvation being secure .... if there was nothing we could do to earn salvation there sure enough is nothing we can do to loose it....since our works/righteousness/ law keeping have no bearing on either side.
This thread is about salvation not being by works, not that salvation is secure because it is not by works.

Let's talk about the OP and why salvation is not by works of the law. There are several good reasons. For starters, it isn't by works because you'd have to keep the whole law, which no one can do.

It is exactly about salvation and if @dcontroversal wants to correct me then I am cool with that.

I suppose the fundamental reason you can not be justified by works of the law and, therefore, saved is because the law can not make you perfect. The only way to be made perfect in God's sight and be granted a declaration of righteousness is to have your unrighteousness removed through forgiveness.
