Can anyone help with fighting temptation
"The main participants in this shall be ones own self, and the 'inspiration' of God.
As long as there is breath in us, we are all confronted with endless temptations of some nature,
it's called life in the now. Our surroundings may often 'present' unneeded temptations,
plus life has an abundance of temptations. Self-control and Spiritual discipline shall be our
'weapons' of best choices' to hopefully 'curb' temptations from unneeded consequences."

Can anyone help with fighting temptation
Welcome and glad you are here. God is there for us and hears our prayers. I've went into the throne room of mercy and grace and asked for His deliverance. Soon after He made a way, He knows the perfect way. Also quote Scriptures over yourself, 'I have the mind of Christ' and 'the joy of the Lord is my strength'. for example. Listen to Christian talks re this. God bless and keep you Maranda!

Can anyone help with fighting temptation
Hello Maranda, and welcome to CChat :)

As for fighting temptations, the principle way that we do that is 1. by becoming a Christian (which I assume that you already are) and then 2. by growing in Christlikeness/sanctification, which we do, first and foremost, by continually growing in the knowledge and understanding of God's word (renewing and filling our minds with His word).

Here are some verses/passages that speak to this, and to the importance of doing so.

Deuteronomy 11
18 You shall impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.
19 You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up.
20 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates,
21 so that your days and the days of your sons may be multiplied on the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens remain above the earth.
Joshua 1
8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.
Psalm 1
1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.
Psalm 119:9, 11
How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word. Thy word I have 'treasured' in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee.
Psalm 119
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
John 17
17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
Romans 12
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
2 Timothy 2
15 Be diligent [study] to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling [rightly dividing] the word of truth.
2 Timothy 3
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

God bless you! (Numbers 6:24-26)

~Deut
p.s. - remember that the Christian life is a 'journey', one that the Lord intends for us to make. In fact, I believe that growing in our relationship with Him is perhaps the most important thing that we can do as a Christian, because everything that He wants us to become and to do depends upon the strength of that growing relationship.

So, whenever you fall to temptation, remember that you have ALWAYS been loved by Him (from everlasting .. Jeremiah 31:3), that He knew exactly what He was doing/who He was getting when He saved you .. Mark 2:17, and that He, as your loving, Abba (Father) ALWAYS wants the very best for you as His daughter, and that He will see that you have those things .. Jeremiah 29:11; Romans 8:28, 32.

So, listen carefully to Him/trust Him/take Him at His word (especially in this when you face temptation and sin .. 1 John 1:9), knowing that you can always trust in His promises to you to sanctify you and to see you safely though this life to be with Him in Glory .. Philippians 1:6, 2:13, 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24) :)

Hello again @Maranda, along with being sanctified by a growing knowledge and remembrance of God's word, there are some practical things that you can do immediately to combat daily temptations. Here are some of the things that help me.

1. Pray for God's help/continue to pray, especially when a temptation first enters your mind.
2. Begin resisting by intentionally turning your eyes and your thoughts away from the temptation that is confronting you (get your mind to go elsewhere, Scripture itself being the very best place for your mind to go (y)(y)). Learning to turn away from the things that tempt us is hard to do at first, but it becomes easier and more natural with practice and time.
3. Consciously (even vocally, if that helps you) take the thoughts that are tempting you "captive" and give them over to Jesus to deal with .. 2 Corinthians 10:5, again and again and again if you need to, because our enemies, Satan and his demons, rarely throw a single salvo (flaming arrow) our way when they are tempting us to sin unfortunately :(
Fortunately however, the Lord is always ready to restore us to full fellowship with Him whenever our temptations have led us into sin, and that, just for the asking .. 1 John 1:9 :)
4. Look for the "ways of escape" from temptation and sin that the Lord provides you with and use them, knowing too that He is watching over you and keeping you from a temptation that is too big for you to handle .. 1 Corinthians 10:13.
5. Don't listen to thoughts in your head that are demeaning, depressing, confusing and/or condemning, thoughts that tell you things like this, "a true Christian would never do what you just did or thought", or "you aren't worthy of God's forgiveness or love like other Christians are", or "you really aren't a Christian and have never been one", because none of those lies/deceptions are from God.
So, when thoughts like that happen, 1. look to the Cross and remember how VERY much He loves you, 2. listen to/trust Him at His word, knowing that He always loves you and will forgive you of your trespasses, just for the asking. These are some of the ways that we obey and honor God, and that we resist the devil, and just as the Bible promises us, when we resist the devil, he will flee from us (at least for awhile anyway) .. James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:8-9.
6. Always rejoice and be thankful in/for EVERYTHING, always knowing/remembering Who is one your side, what His true intentions are for you in Christ, as well that He is capable of/will accomplish all of the things that He told you He would .. e.g./cf Romans 4:20-21, 8:28, Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24.

God bless you!

~Deut
p.s. - when I first became a Christian at age 30, I left a very sinful life to do so. Unfortunately, part of that life came along for the ride in the form of a painful "thought-life" (so to speak). IOW, my mind was still filled with memories from the life I led in my 20's and it was like foul, stale garbage, the smell of which I couldn't seem to get completely away from .. until .. I began to fill my mind with something FAR better, the word of God. I began to memorize certain topical verses and passages and His word began to push the stinky garbage that was stuck in my mind to the back burner (if you will), and then eventually, out of my mind altogether.

It's hard work to memorize Scripture, but I promise you that the benefits/blessings that come from doing so will FAR outweigh any amount of effort that you put into it :) Also, since we are indwelt by the HS as Christians, it becomes far more difficult to sin when you know His word that well because, every time you are tempted to sin, He brings several perfectly memorized verses/passages to the forefront of your mind that remind you why you shouldn't!

Just FYI, I use the Navigator's Topical Memory System (which The Navigators have been using to train their overseas missionaries with for nearly 100 years now), so if you decide that you'd like to begin memorizing Scripture, that's the system that I'd recommend to you (it's also available as an Apple or Android app now).

This is a subject that is more suitable for the bible discussion forum, not the introductions forum. :)

Can anyone help with fighting temptation
Hey Maranda,
I am so happy you are reaching out to God.

He said, He will never cast anyone away that call upon His name. God is faithful and He loves it when we come to Him as vulnerable as we are.

Take everything to Him, that perplex your minds. He who up hold worlds, know how to take care of those whom He loves and no perplexity is too difficult for God to unravel. Your trust should grow of God, my friend.

Immediately 1 Cor 10:13 came to my mind. There had no temptation taken you, but such which is common to man. But God is faithful who will not suffer you to be tempted above what you are able: but will with the temptation also make a way of escape that you may be able to bear it.

My sister, reach out to God. I have been there. And my sister, many times we have an unknowledge of our makeup and the way we think.

May you experience the God of all comfort very near and dear to you.

I am praying for you.

Can anyone help with fighting temptation
Aside from the verses in the bible? I would say praying to God. Asking for the strength and courage to do what he puts on ur heart to do and has told us to do in the bible. Be honest with him (he already knows ur struggles). And if you need his strength, ask him for it. As him to fight your battles and to help you to do your part. If you see your wanting those things above him and his word (due to temptation), ask for him to change your heart.
He loves you so much! Just be honest with him and be willing to do what you need to do. Pray. Talk you your Father...
I pray this helps... May God bless you and help you with this and every other struggle you might have and find Peace in the Father's Ever Lasting Love...
