Welecome, former resident of Portland Oregon here...well Beaverton but our address was Portland. I was only there 1 year in from 1977 to 1978 but it made quite the impression.

Thanks for your welcome. Yes, I've been to Portland and passing through many times. Not sure about Beaverton. You said it made quite the impression. Care to share?

Beaverton is a suburb of Portland and the birth place of Nike....when we moved there in 1977 I was the only kid who didn't own a pair of Nikes. On top of that I didn't call them the right thing....growing up in NJ they were called sneakers or sneaks, then we moved back to Canada when I was in grade 4 and my sneakers became runners. Then in 1977 when I was going into grade 6, what I had first called my sneaks, and then my runners were now called tennis shoes, even though I never played tennis in them.

What did I like about the PNW and Oregon? The Willamit (sp?) valley, Multnomah (sp? again) falls.....Seaside and the amusement part there, Mount Hood's Timerline lodge.....it was a great place to be 10 and 11 years of age.

Very nice to meet you. I also grew up in the NW. I don't miss the rain, but I do miss the outdoor adventures. May the Lord bless you abundantly. :coffee:

I'm reminded of a story I once heard about a world traveler. This gentleman was fascinated with churches, and so wherever he went in the world he'd always go and visit the local church no matter where he was. And in many churches he found a golden phone that had a sign on it that said $500, or £300 when he was in England, or $300 Euros. In each of these churches he'd ask "What is the golden phone for and why is it so expensive to use"? The answer was always the same, it was explained that the phone was to call heaven and speak to God.

Years go by and our intrepid traveller finds his way to the area around Olympia Washington, and as is his custom he visits a church there. In this church he finds the same golden phone he's seen all over the world, but instead of hundreds of dollars the sign says 50 cents.

He asks someone what the phone is for and, as with all the others, he's told its a phone to call heaven and speak to God. When he explains that he's been to churches all over the world and that many have the same type of phone, but the call costs hundreds of dollars its explained to him: "Oh, this is Washington State, for us its a local call".

I know, the rain here...you either love it or hate it. Or hate it and grow to love it over time. The latter is my experience. But there are still times when I grumble. Thanks for your welcome.

Call me dense, but you are going to have to unriddle that one for me!
