So....this is a simple and pretty straightforward question.

Are you happy with your life?

And if not, what would make you happy....if anything? Or what do you think is keeping you from being happy? I know some single people might say getting a boyfriend or girlfriend would make them happier. But other than the lack of romance in your life....what else would make you happier? More friends? A better job? Certain problems or obstacles in your life finally going away or being resolved? Please be specific if you don't mind. But if it's too personal or private, or you just don't feel like sharing, then that's fine too. :)
Happiness is a good emotion, but it’s an emotional nevertheless. Joyfulness is much more enduring.

Yes I am :) and if I dare to complain, I think about those who are less fortunate than I am.

Also, what keeps me happy is God, family, work, music and my network of friends (offline and online).

This is a good question, GN, and definitely something that each of us ask ourselves.

To be honest, I'm not sure anymore.

I used to be like most singles in thinking that "FINDING THE ONE!" would ultimately make me happy, and while I'm certainly not against meeting him, if such a person exists, I've come to see life as being quite a bit more complicated than that.

In my time of singleness, I've tried to set goals for myself (in an effort, I suppose, to climb the ladder of happiness.) But EVERY time I met a goal, I would start to panic, because I would start to realize that if I didn't find another goal to replace it (and therefore distract my unhappiness,) I would start to feel anxious and depressed.

I used to think meeting my goals would make me happy. But it didn't (even though of course, there were some benefits.)

Lately, I have been asking God what it is I'm looking for, and if it's even obtainable in this life (as I know true happiness can't be met until we're with Him.)

However, I'm wondering exactly what He wants me to do in the meantime.

What about you, Going Nowhere?

What things do you think would make you happy, and why?
I am married for the past eight years and not happy in life because I am financially broke,I am suffering.

This is going to sound horrible, but I think....if I was the total opposite of the person that I am....I would be happy. I hate myself and there's just so much wrong with my life. I could go into details, but (and I hope you understand) I'd rather not. I feel like telling people who aren't happy one thing: Just be glad you're not me. Because that's honestly how I feel. I feel....highly unlucky....to say the least.
Your comment is heartbreaking. I am sorry you are hurting as you are. I will pray he brings His comfort and revealing to you to help ease the aches you face.

1 John 2:15 - "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, 1he love of the Father is not in him." Don't look to the world for joy and happiness, look to the lord first, the rest will come along afterwards.

So many answers! Happiness sounds fleeting. So many blossoms in the wind lighting here and yonder like a happenstance. Seems unpredicable.

So I will says this about happiness or even its counterpart. I will let Jaimie Bauer say what she will. I never met her, but followed her and her family on a YT channel for the past four years. They were homesteaders living in the mountains of Ozark. Raising two boys and living off-grid and following YHVH (Yahwey) our God of Israel and son Yeshua (Christ Jesus). The family are Torah Christians and are obedient to and following the Word of God's Torah law and salvation through Christ.

Jaimie died this past Thanksgiving day of an agressive cancer which she valiently fought since February. The family did everything holistic and medical to save her. So many people prayed for her healing. So many held hands in agreement. So many cried before God asking mercy. So, she wrote this attached letter explaining happiness and healing and justice and hope. She wrote as her hand first then ended with the Hand of the Holy Spirit I believe. She wrote it as one who had seen the blossoms light here and there restless like in the wind then fall and wither on the ground.

So I will say what Jaimie Bauer said about happiness. "It is well, it is well with my soul".

for me it the knowing that I have so much love to share with someone, but not just anyone. In the meantime I find happiness in the day to day living. Not prosperity but freedom, things I enjoy, and of course the Lord.

going nowhere if you not happy would you like to be?
Maybe (am just guessing) its because you dont have any plans to go anywhere, can I suggest making some.

It could be just a small road trip or something for a change of scene.
Its not good if you feeling always down in the dumps. Although theres all sorts of things you can do with stuff from the dump like upcycle it..?!

There is a book called Christian secrets of a happy life by Hannah Whitall Smith. I would recommend that one. If you want to find the secret you are going to have to look that one up.

Happiness is so transient..I was happy when I got a rabbit for my birthday when I was a kid, then I quit taking care of it and it died. As an adult I was happy when I got married, but I quit taking care of that, and it died.
I think peace and contentment is what I covet most for myself, and the good Lord knows how undeserving I am of that. Probably an answer to my prayers regarding the spiritual lives of my children would be the ticket.

People get a lot of their emotions mixed up and mislabeled. I put this little article together on happiness. I hope it helps.

Happiness

One said: “You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.”

This is so true. Happiness is not something we achieve and dwell there, that is contentment. Happiness is something we pick up as we go through life, like playing with a toddler or puppy. The constant presence of a joyful countenance—or merriment, if you like—would make you look quite crazy or mad. So, contentment is what we are really after in life.

The meaning for our lives is something God will reveal to us when we are able to comprehend it. If not in our lifetimes, then in the hereafter.

Then another one said: “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”

I don't think that is quite the approach to take. It could set us up for disappointment. We can learn to be content doing a job that we don't necessarily love. Not all of us will be able to find work we find interesting and edifying. God's word says all work if profitable. Even failed attempts are useful as lessons.

For contentment's sake any job you find yourself doing, do it well. Remember, God is watching even if no one else is. I think David and Joseph set good examples to show us this. They always put their best foot forward and did their best in everything they tackled. They also had faith that God was working through their endeavors. I think that is the key to success.

So, we pick up our happiness as we go on our daily journey if we are content in life. I feel that contentment comes only if there remains hope in our lives. Without hope, our spirit dries up:

Pro. 13:12 “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.”

Pro. 17:22 “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”

Pro. 18:14 “The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?”

Ecc. 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in His time; also He has set eternity in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God makes from the beginning to the end.”

I admonish all the brethren to not seek, but be content with their positions in life. Why? Because God has brought you to this point looking out for your spiritual advancement. He knows what He is doing. Everything, good and bad, works together for our overall good. Keep hoping in Christ, you will be content.
