Mmmm... coffee....

It's certainly an acquired taste. I acquired the taste about 30 years ago.

There is great coffee, decent coffee, tolerable coffee, swill, and Starbucks-burnt.

I heaped teaspoon of Nescafe Blend 43 coffee, half a teaspoon of sugar, hot water in first then the full cream fat enriched milk afterwards. Two mugs of those and I am ready for the day iu-21.jpeg

I like the aroma of coffee more than the taste. Since I am very sensitive to caffeine, I only consume a minimum of one cup a day. If it is already late afternoon or night, I will only have decaf. Cafe latte is perfect for me. Less coffee, more milk with no sugar.

Coffee.... the nectar of the morning gods.... if there was such a thing.

I grew up in a home where my mom and dad both drank coffee all day long. My mom would take freshly brewed coffee and microwave it to make it hot enough. I'm not that tough.

I didn't drink coffee until I was in my early 20's... working construction, commercial carpentry... when break time rolled around, and we would go in "the shack" for break, nobody would make hot chocolate for me :cry:, so I started drinking coffee to warm up. Been enjoying it ever since. Black. No additives. I really despise the taste of sweetened coffee :sick:.

I got a new burr grinder for Christmas, and have been grinding my own, when I make it at home, which is normally only on weekends. My company provides us free coffee/tea/etc at work, so I just wait til I get to work (around 5:30 am) for my first/second/third cups.

It is definitely an acquired taste.... like beer. .... or so I've heard....;)

Burr grinder?? Or is that a typo? :unsure:

I dont drink coffee, dont like the taste, but I once rescued two coffee plants that were languishing outside a cafe. The silly people didnt know how to look after them and that they cant be in too much sun.

I drink my coffee black, no sugar, filtered Douwe Egberts in the morning, after which I can face anything, it's the "elixir of life." lol

Also have a Lavazza expresso/americano machine which uses Lavazza capsules, which is also drank black and without sugar.

Have been drinking black coffee, without sugar since my early 20's (which is quite some time ago, longer than I care to remember...LOL)

I suppose it's a tatse you either like or loathe!

I drink coffee black sometimes (depending on what kind of coffee it is). For me it all depends on the flavor. Usually I will put some natural bliss creamer in my coffee and other times some half and half. I don't pour in a lot, just enough to give the coffee some extra added flavor. I may even add sugar (in moderation) at times to my coffee, but I only use sugar in the raw or stevia (natural from a plant). I don't like to use certain other creamers or sugar substitutes. Too many chemicals.

Over the years I have found the coffees that I like drinking black and have stuck to them, occasionally I might eat a small amount of dark mint chocolate with it, but couldn't now drink coffee with any kind of sweetner in it, either synthetic or natural, nor with cream or milk. I would use milk in a cup of tea when I drink it on the very odd occasion.

What's your secret to being able to drink something like that? I'm just curious.
I buy a good quality medium or light medium roast coffee, medium ground.
Then I put about 8 cups of water in a pot and about 1/4 cup of coffee per quart of water.
Start the water over heat until it is hot but not boiling. Add the coffee grounds straight to the pot of water. Bring to a full boil bring heat down but leave her boil. Let boil for 3 to 4 minutes. Take off the heat and let sit for a minute or two. Then take about one cup of cold water and pour gently into the coffee, this will drop the grounds to the bottom. Let rest for a minute and the gently pour your coffee into a cup, don't disturb the grounds setting on the bottom drink it nice and hot.
Part of the problem with drip coffee and coffee machine coffee is that it is never got enough to kill that bitter taste. Once it is boiled for 3 to 4 minutes that bitterness is gone, now be sure not to boil longer because you can scorch it and it will taste scorched.

I get up real early for work and out the door quick like then enjoy my coffee on the road. Just creamer for me. I don't like it black, it's too acid-y.

When I was a kid, like from 4 to 9 or so, we would visit my grandmother and she would give us one of those old glasses with a lead like bottom to it. We'd put in 1 part coffee to 4 or 5 parts milk and then mix in 2 or 3 heaping spoons of sugar. After that I was Coo-Coo for Cocoa Puffs for hours. By the time I was a teenager I was already drinking hot coffee....and now I have probably 5 or 6 cups a day.

Oh - but there was one time I went to New Orleans and had the famous cafe au lait and a beignet at Cafe Du Monde. I think it's just coffee with a bunch of cream but with the beignet, it was really delightful. You have to share with the pigeons. They're a secretive, plotting bunch I think.

Try boiling it as I described above, no acid taste.

It's the old-fashioned kind of grinder, with a hopper at the top and a crank handle on the side. Modern electric grinders use blades to cut the beans apart; burr grinders crush them between interlocking "gear" teeth - the burrs. You get a more consistent grind size with a burr grinder, because the pieces fall through once they are small enough.
