Hi, I was wondering if you thought it would be acceptable to get baptized a second time. I have been a christian for almost 40 years. I got baptized in my church at age 16. I was a new believer and was ready to publicly profess my faith in Jesus and commitment to follow Him. Next fall i will be visting Jerusalem on a tour. We will be visiting the sea of Galilee and Jordan river and there will be an opportunity to be baptized. I would love to be baptized in the very waters where Jesus was but I'm not sure it's biblical to be baptized again once you have been. Isn't it in the bible that there be one baptism? I wanted to get your take on that. Would it be ok to be baptized again?? Thanks!

While your sentiment is commendable, if you were baptized as a believer by immersion, then one baptism should suffice. Also, the Scripture which speak about one baptism is really referring to being baptized with the Holy Spirit (receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit).

The one Baptism is done the way that JESUS was Baptized, by SUBMERGING, not any other way, It don't mean that you can't be baptized more then once, I have, but I fell back into sin, If you haven't fell back in to sin, I do not think you need to be baptized again . and being baptized in the same place that JESUS was will not help you at all. as long as you was submerge like JESUS was. IS what will count, It is that we believe & obey BY FAITH, IF you have fell back into sin, I would say, yes you should. Prey about it, And GOD bless as HE sees fit.

Water baptism is ceremonial and not part of salvation. If you want to be baptized in the Jordan help yourself. I'm certain there is some church denomination there that will take your money and dunk you in the river. Likely in the very spot where Jesus was baptized.

The only baptism that saves is the Holy Spirit baptism received at the moment of salvation.

I was baptized twice. Once in a river, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Until I realized Jesus Christ is the name of the Trinity. And they baptized in Jesus' name in Acts. So as a historic trinitarian I was re-baptized in the name of Jesus Christ in a lake by immersion.

I don't know about the trinitarian part , BUT the being BAPTIZED IN JESUS CHRIST name I agree WITH !!! Father, SON ,HOLY SPIRIT ARE NOT A NAME, or NAMES ether,

Being baptized is part of our faith of following JESUS, That represents the death ,the burial, & the Resurrection, I think it is a requirement
when it is possible , Being part of our faith.

Baptism is always possible ever since Christ rose from the dead.

There may some that prisons or jails, Or like the man on the Cross with HIM that most likely didn't get Baptized, And I'm sure that he die after CHRIST did, GOD bless as HE sees fit

Baptism in the Lords name is not applicable to the man on the cross with him...Christ not dead and not raised yet.
If those in prisons repent and believed then God will make a way to get them baptized...

We all ways come up with something in our thoughts , But I'm afraid most of the time, when we are standing before JESUS it won't hold water. GOD bless as HE sees fit

Yes we are...but the scriptures is there to guide us...when Jesus said we must be born again...it is a MUST...and there is no exception...
except a man be born of WATER and SPIRIT he cannot enter the kingdom of God...

I understand the sentiment I would probably feel the same way. However you are baptized and there is no need for further baptism, and I don't think taking the sacrament of baptism lightly is advisable. That being said I think that God loves you and you love God, and if going into that river draws you nearer to him and identifies you more closely in your mind and spirit to him, then just understand you are not actually being baptized again. You are doing it for the experience nothing more.
I don't think God is a hard God, but a loving Father who wants us close to him.

Make sure you meet the criteria when you were first baptized.
1. Genuine Repentance
2. That you believed that Jesus is the Son of God
3. That The Jesus you believed is the one preached by Peter as in Acts 10: 36-43
- he was from Israel..not any country (if there is Jesus preached other than from Israel then its counterfeit Jesus)
- he was anointed by God with power and Holy Spirit
- he was from God
- He did good and healing
-he was hanged on a tree and DIED then rose on the third day..
etc.
Also, I would like to remind you that there are some disciples from ephesus that was re-baptise because they were baptise in the baptism of John...
Baptism should be done right...and with in the right name
If in your first baptism you din not meet the criteria...there is no harm but good if you are baptise rightfully..

JESUS wants obedience to HIS WORD ,He is GOD with us, AND HE wants Obedience TO HIS WORD, WHY call ME LORD AND not do the things that I say. HE expects OBEDIENCE FROM US,
GOD bless as HE sees fit

The first time I was immersed it was under the banner of a fake fraudulent salvation for the sake of numbers by the church I was a member of.....after actually being saved some 11 years later and after a few solid years of teaching I began to be convicted that my immersion was invalid...after much struggle as a white knuckle pew holder during the invitation I went forward and submitted myself for immersion....after being immersed I have never been convicted again and or looked back.

Nothing wrong with being immersed a second time symbolically in Israel.....however.....it will not carry the same weight as being immersed by the authority of a true N.T. church.....
