DIY Mask

Has anyone here tried their hands at making their own mask? What kind of material did you use and can I see it? Post a picture.

I was looking around for washable masks to purchase, but so far I've not come across anything sensible. I think I'll try to make a few, incase I feel the need to wear one, but I don't know which material is best.

I've been hearing lots of confusing views concerning masks, but I really which there can be some solution concerning this matter since we are told that the general public does not need to wear N95 mask.

One of my friends made a few I will ask her what fabric she made them out of.
I would use something natural like cotton. Or wear a scarf if I dont have a mask. One thing people dont seem to realise is covering their hair and ears too. as well as glasses for your eyes, and in infected zones, goggles.
Basically you need to be covered from head to toe.
Scrubs.

as far as spiritual covering goes, use a clay mask and then oil is the way..it will close the pores and seal you.

People that are infected and sick actually need to be on respirators. This is how bad it is.

The dust masks tradies use are probably more effective than the surgical masks. But the general thing is if you are healthy a mask is a precaution its more the sick that actually need to wear masks. To prevent any spread of virus if they cough or sneeze.

its a bit disconcerting now everyone is wearing masks out in public but I think its better be safe than sorry. I remember when I was doing one job in which my boss asked me to spray some plants and I said if he wants me to do that then I need a mask and gloves and he got annoyed that I wanted to wear safety gear but he was wanting me to use POISON. He said it would scare the clients but I said it is better that I wear the gear and be protected than pretend its not a safety hazard.

its like not bothering to wear safety gear when in a hazardous situation just because you dont think it looks normal. Well I could have been run over or exposed to harmful gases and then my boss wouldnt even have an employee.

anyway I dont work for that company anymore but just saying just cos some people believe THEY are bulletproof doesnt mean everyone else is. and we are meant to protect and care for our weak and vulnerable people.

I thought of using my T-shirt to make a mask. But then how can I ruin a good T-shirt to make the mask? My old t-shirts would be too tacky. I've used one of my shopping bags.

My parish is currently on lockdown. We are instructed by the government to wear a mask when we leave home to purchase basic necessities.

where we live, wearing anything is an option simply because we are so 'rural', with S&G just down the road a mile or so...

but, of course we are always being respectful of other's fears even when are not feeling threatened...

saw a vid about 'masks' and the person simple took an old T-shirt and cut it into a folding mask along with
making the ear-tags in the same pattern - it was really very clever and looked like it would work very well...
maybe look up 'home-made-masks'...

At first i thought you meant like a face mask for skin care regiment .. I was about to tell you my beauty secret as to how i remain so silky smooth in times of pandemic. lol, im just messing around though.

Cotton. You can put a layer of HEPA material in between for better filtration if you like.
But I don't know of how much use is HEPA, because there are gaps around the nose between the mask and face. They cannot protect you, they help you protect others.
These are with elastic, but if you're making them for longer hours of use and not just occasional, the ones that have ribbons that tie together are a lot more comfortable. Also, some people used hair elastics to make their masks, some are thinner and more comfortable than this below. You can wear these on both sides they're the same.

By HEPA you mean vacuum bags? I heard they are not safe.

Well we still need to take care of our faces under the mask, so not a bad idea.

Yeah, me, @Angela53510, @SoulWeaver and @Magenta we all stay exfoliated and lookin fa-bu-lous. When we logged in it was pure radiance, it was absolutely blinding to some people. Just look at @blue_ladybug over there still squinting...She wasn't ready lol.

Thank you for the info. Surgical masks and FFP1 masks are now available to everyone on Walmart.com and Amazon.com, with delivery dates in early May. I have no idea of their quality.

Well let's hope they are of good quality . I am old-fashioned so as yet I have never purchased anything on the internet.

I purchase most of my dry goods on the internet. It's great to have everything shipped to me. About the only things I don't buy on the net is fresh and frozen food.

I ordered surgical masks from Walmart yesterday. They gave me a delivery date of Apr 30. I'll let you know the quality when I get them.

Yes. Received them last Monday. They were as advertised (surgical masks). I noticed that the reorder price was higher.

They are single use, but I put mine in the sunlight for an hour after I used it. I'll reuse it if I run out before my other order comes in.

I'm afraid that we will be wearing masks for the foreseeable future.

Restuarants are reopening at 25% capacity tomorrow, but patron's and staff are required to wear masks. I'm trying to figure out how I can eat with while wearing a mask.
