I think we all agree striking the Rock is a picture of Christ's Crucifixion and the Holy Spirit coming forth as a result.
It is taught by some that the fact that the Rock was not to be struck again is where the principle of Hebrews 6:6 comes from:

"To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace." - Hebrews 6:6

Crucifying Christ all over again (striking the Rock) is prohibited by God for the reasons given.
I think this helps explain God's displeasure in Moses striking the rock again.

Yeah this makes sense - Moses struck the rock twice - out pops water, Christ is struck once out comes the HS.

Chuck Missler (when he was alive) probably forgot at least a thousand times more than you'll ever know. And sleep well knowing that his spirit is with Jesus now like it or not. I truly love that dear man.

could it be that God did not tell Moses to strike the rock?

if I remember correctly, God told Moses to speak to the rock.

Moses disobeyed, so hence was not allowed to enter the promised land.

That is exactly what I've been saying and then explained the potential prophetic significance of the two events.

Had some dental work done. Bit my cheek while I was numb but now feeling it since the numbness is gone but mostly well.
