Men and women, why do you want children? I'm just curious why so many people want children.
Well, be fruitful and multiply is one reason, versus what the world wants these days, to be fruity and not multiply.

Children are a gift from God, enjoyable, but mixed in are the facts of sin in their hearts, and ours, and the challenges. We are here to raise them in the LORD; Ephesians 6&c.

they are associated with a blessing.
Unfortunately it is often times not vice versa. Maybe the children are associated with a blessing but the parents too many times are not. If, as a parent you have to continually tell your children that every single thing that they hear on the MSM is Satanic lie, all of the popular music and all of the hollywierd movies are from the pit of hell, and public and high schools are dens of fornication and drugs, how in the world do you expect the family to survive psychologically intact?

I was a kid once in all of what I say is true. And it's probably worse now than it was back then.

The point I'm trying to make is that the continuous withering fusillade the evil forces in this world is reaching a fever pitch. And the sons of Adam under continual attack.

This is no fun at all.

We definitely want children. And I always liked children. But we definitely are not having children. We have come to the conclusion that at this point it is utterly irresponsible. To even have a fighting chance you need a stay at home mom, a sufficient quantity of income, and you would have to practically isolate your children from the horrors of this present age.

It's simply not feasible in terms of time energy and money. And I don't see how it is within the child's best interest to come to a sin saturated world the way it is now.

And beyond all of that I believe the end of the age is very very near.

Do you think it could be a strategy of Satan to discourage believers in Christ from having children? Historically, the largest growth of the church has been biological -- believers having and raising God-fearing children. We are called to be salt and light. We are to be a hopeful and not a fearful generation. Could the decline of society that you so fear actually have been accelerated by Christians abandoning hope, embracing fear, and refusing to have children in contradiction to God's commands?

The growth of the church is never ever biological. As for the rest of your post, if it were
not for 1 Corinthians 7.....maybe. As for building some kind of righteous society I could not give a hoot, as this is not the calling for Christians. This present age exists only for the sake of the elect.

Wow. We truly are living in the last days.

Correct. This of course has nothing whatsoever to do with childbearing. Truth be told I loved my children SO MUCH that I made the great personal sacrafice and didn't have any. Paul refrained similarly. We can safely assume that many in the early persecuted Church did the same thing, As Paul makes clear in 1 Corinthians 7.

The best commendation comes with singleness. I am married but by the same token not having children does meet the same criteria.......that you are better able to serve the Lord without worldly commitments and family. And more so during times of trial and tribulation such as now.

I really don't know what all the confusion is about.

1 Cor 7

25 With regard to the question about people who have never married, I have no command from the Lord, but I give my opinion as one shown mercy by the Lord to be trustworthy. 26 Because of the impending crisis I think it best for you to remain as you are. 27 The one bound to a wife should not seek divorce. The one released from a wife should not seek marriage. 28 But if you marry, you have not sinned. And if a virgin marries, she has not sinned.

But those who marry will face difficult circumstances, and I am trying to spare you such problems. 29 And I say this, brothers and sisters: The time is short. So then those who have wives should be as those who have none, 30 those with tears like those not weeping, those who rejoice like those not rejoicing, those who buy like those without possessions, 31 those who use the world as though they were not using it to the full. For the present shape of this world is passing away. 32 And I want you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. 33 But a married man is concerned about the things of the world, how to please his wife, 34 and he is divided. An unmarried woman or a virgin is concerned about the things of the Lord, to be holy both in body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the things of the world, how to please her husband. 35 I am saying this for your benefit, not to place a limitation on you, but so that without distraction you may give notable and constant service to the Lord

Well, more than I want a child, I'd love to start a family under God. To share my blessings and life with a woman who loves Jesus as much as I do.

If we were so blessed as to have a child, I'd be as happy as I was nervous.

It is a huge task to help raise up a young one... The rewards aren't something I'm familiar with beyond what you get as an uncle, or older brother, or someone that's been able to see the face of a new person learning something for the first time... or being grateful or innocent or hilarious unintentionally or potentially super clever....

but.... if I had a chance to raise a child in a way that they could be a loving and helpful member of the body of Christ... I feel like it's worth all the trials and lessons I'd need to face to raise them...

(not sure I'm ready to be a father yet... or if anyone can be "ready" lol but happy fathers day to those of you who had children of your own)

Yup. I always wanted kids when I was young. As I became older and I understood the way of the world I came to a different sentiment. I also started asking myself question: what are you going to do for the child rather than what is his child going to do for me.

Debating the matter this interesting question never seems to arise: Would this child want you as a parent? Scripture is absolutely silent on this matter, other than stating that children must
revere and obey their parents regardless of any circumstances.

BTW, Israel under God was supposed to be building a righteous society. They of course failed miserably. The religious Muslims are trying to do so even today. The results have been even more horrendous.

I believe I was opposed to having children or marriage in general most of my life.
I wasn't raised as a Christian but I still viewed the world as a messed up place.

After seeing God working in people and after God used His word and the gospel and body here on earth, I saw the value of having more people here and now to be examples of His love to the world. The thought of having a child became less cruel to me the more I learned of the eternal and the less that temporal guided my thoughts...

On top of that, so many children with so much potential don't even have homes....

Even if I were to marry a bit later in life, and maybe can't have a child for whatever physical reason between me or my wife... I'd see adoption as a wonderful opportunity to witness and show love and raise up and protect one of these young ones in the ways of the Lord....

I can't say what the child would want for a parent... but I can say I'd look to God daily and try my best to be a loving father who can maybe give the tools that will help them navigate through this world as a Christian..

I have to tell you I have seen some adorable talented magnificent children being born by people that were absolutely wretched. And unless there was some kind of intervention like adoption or the parents repenting and becoming Christians, I realized that the children were for all intents purposes doomed. In other words despite the potential and despite their talents they will be forever tormented, stifled, abused and ultimately neglected by the peevish hapless deplorable parents who loved to drink and party fornicate waste their lives. In other words the children were indeed victims! And there wasn't a thing they could do about it.

Children deserve far far better yet most will never get better. And that goes for children in India, Iran, North Korea, Russia, China, Venezuela, practically all of Africa......The vast majority of the world in other words.

We treat dogs better then we treat human children in this world. Children seem to be hostages and victims and exploited, all the while the parents are either oblivious to this or do their best to
limit the damage and mostly in vain.

And I'm still waiting for someone to reply to my post where I stated that children should never inherit the a vast national debt conjured up by the banksters, yet they are legally obliged to do so despite the fact that it is immoral and unethical!

I am a lot older than my wife and I personally would prefer not to be a father, but my wife wants a baby and even my pastor reminds me that we are to be fruitful and multiply and since we haven't accomplished that yet, we should still try. I can't argue with that. Married people should try to have children. I don't want to concern myself with "What ifs", just that children should come out or marriage, although sometimes there is a very real infertility factor.

Why be snarky and judgmental? My pastor doesn't resort to nonsense like that, he focuses on what the Bible tells me about my responsibility-Have children, at least one, and we have not done that yet, and had better keep trying to accomplish God's will.
You have children because God says to, period.

You have children in order to grow up.
You cant remain fearful and cowardly all of your life.
OK so only partly true, some of us never grow up.

Either your faith is in God, to do in and through you what you can not or its in your reasons not to.
Yeah during Paul's time the church was under attack "present distresses"
Can you imagine having to watch you kids die because you or they cant let go of their faith in God?

Yeah, you would understand God better then.
I am sure Paul sat with a number of families who has lost their kids to the faith as martyrs.
Wanting to spare people that pain is understandable.
We don't live in that situation right now, well most of us do not but I would not be surprised if it was around the corner.
Truth is you have to trust our kids to Gods hand just like everything else, it you do not they become idols.

Well gee... with such a short fuse you might want to wait until you get control of that before having kids, you'll be no fun at all. Lots to get upset about in life, my post was not one of them. :) And I was just kidding. They are to increase the power of your tribe. Still kidding. :) All kdding aside, since Paul said it was a choice to marry if you can control yourself, it stands to reason it is a choice to have children if you can control that as well. Have them or don't have them. Don't let anyone tell you that you HAVE to have them or you are not pleasing God. There are several things not biblical about that but I am sure you can figure out why.
