Why???

I was born and raised in a Catholic family. I walked away from God into the darkness before coming back...
When I came back to God I had a very basic understanding of Christianity and some false perceptions...
I read the bible and had some and had some serious concerns about the practices of my Catholic parents...
They're Portuguese and have always had a huge adoration for Fatima which I became very uncomfortable about it...
I still am uncomfortable and often pray to God to show them mercy if they have fallen into idolatry.

I joined a Catholic and was met with hostility so started to look for another church...
I thought that there were only a hand full of denominations and that they were all friendly to each other...
The amount of division and hatred was so distressing it often brought me tears...
Learning about God was a joy but learning about Christianity was agonizing...
I became so confused that I just decided to keep going to a Catholic church to worship God...

I joined a Christian forum and for 6 months it was all good. They were all friendly and welcoming...
I don't promote Catholicism, i don't defend Catholicism but people on that forum started to treat me differently...
People became more critical, more hostile and just straight out rude but i had no idea why...

I had changed my avatar to a picture of the Sacred Heart of Christ. Well, little did I know that it was a Catholic thing and little did i know that people would go from being friendly to being obnoxious because of that...

When i started an inquiry thread i got responses like "Catholics are..." or "the Vatican..."
I was either being generalized or i was being punished for the decisions made by the RCC in the past...
Not all Catholics are the same, we aren't robots and we have no authority over the Vatican's decisions either.

Why is that??? Im not saying everyone is like that but there are certain people that are.
They treat you like you a Satanist or something. Why???

A lot of churches are a mess just like the catholic Church.
The real answer has always been God through Christ Jesus and getting the water of the word directly for yourself, pure and untainted.

The people I find that hate the Catholic Church the most are the ones who are ex Catholics.
But focusing on the flaws of things that have nothing to do with God and Gods ways in reality is a wast and a distraction from God.
Pray for some genuine loving believers who live like Christ Jesus to fellowship with.

One thing I find Catholics are better at is trusting, they trust in their ignorance and are led astray.
But if they also trust in the word of God and the Spirit of God with the same completeness I expect they will go far.

So was I (30 years). It is not "Catholics" that receive 'hate', but the false theology thereof (of which I may share with you as an ex-Catholic myself), or the "ism" of it.

Well, the 'sacred-heart' and 'immaculate-heart' things are of pagan origin.

it depends how you define "hate". If you hold to the social justice snowflake definition, then yes, Catholics are going to get a lot of it, as are all other non-Christians. If, however, you hold to a sensible and rational definition of "hate" then you will likely find that most of us are simply upholding the truths of Scripture against all detractors.

Good for you. There are very serious issues with 'Fatima' and the surrounding history and with the children themselves and the contradictory material that is on record then and now.

I'd advise getting your eyes off groups and putting them on Jesus and His Word.

looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

@PC123 People will always be people... We are not yet perfect and tend to disappoint one another at times. Like crossnote said, keep your sight on Jesus. I am so sorry you got treated harshly. Please give this place a chance. There are many friendly people here.

many people will not agree with this, but those who pray to Mary, many do so because of ignorance. The greater sin is those who teach people to do so. Catholic doctrine and tradition of men. They took the word of God from the people and gave it to them during mass. This is a great error, and method of control and spiritual enslavement. They have a works based salvation and teach praying to those who have no power. that is a great error. many good people but Give them Jesus they will be set free:).

Well for one - you have history in christianity of Roman Catholicism persecuting other christians to the point of killing off millions. The protestant reformation and the history of some ana-baptists attests to this.

Second- you have the overall teaching of Roman Catholicism that combines Polytheistic/Pagan practices with christian doctrine.

Third- it's a system of works to get to heaven. Where is Jesus' payment for sin.. his justification? Where is it's complete effacy?

Having said these three things though.. there are genuine believers within this system of faith. They are genuinely converted and are earnest in their love for Jesus, but are in a system that isn't aligned to the bible.

Jesus has gracefully saved them, they want to follow Him... but they aren't hearing the right teaching.

Usually the objections are towards the teachings of the Catholic Church. But that is generally not hatred towards those being deceived by the hierarchy of that church. Catholics are generally fine, upstanding people, and are generally opposed to abortion and divorce. But they also fail to see what the Bible says as opposed to what the Catholic hierarchy teaches.

Once in a while a Catholic apologist will come on board, and try to promote Roman Catholicism. And that's when things get a little hot. Non-Catholics see that the teachings of the RCC oppose Bible truth, and just like all false doctrines, they need to be exposed. And the pronouncement of Pope Francis simply add fuel to the fire.

I went to a Catholic university for my master's in Software Engineering (DePaul University in Chicago), and to be honest, I had one of the best university experiences in my life. The staff I dealt with at school were very honest and caring people. They did things from the heart not for selfish reasons. The education I got there ended up getting me my dream job and I eventually worked at the largest web company in Chicago before I decided to pursue my own business work independently.

Anyways, I've mentioned before here that I've never had issues with Catholics. In fact, I'm currently collaborating remotely on and off with a Catholic software developer who lives in Italy.

As a Lutheran Christian, I do have a problem with the Pope, but I don't blame Catholic people for them. They are members of the body of Christ and I believe it is our duty as Christians to treat them well as per Jesus Christ's commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves.

One Lutheran Church I used to attend in Montreal once had a Catholic Bishop over for Luther's 500 year reformation anniversary who mentioned that he thinks the Catholic church is a lot more onboard nowadays with the ideas that Martin Luther had when they broke off from the Church 500 years ago. As such, he thinks there is a possibility that the Roman Catholic Church would eventually share common communion with Lutherans once more conflicts between them are resolved. In any case, he actually did share communion with us, which was unheard of. Praise the Lord.

Godspeed.

Funny you mentioned the "met with hostility" bit. When I once wondered if Lutherans were wrong about Catholicism and visited a Catholic church, I was met with hostility too. I had a good experience praying during church service, but when I spoke to the priest afterwards, I was met with extreme apathy and lack of concern for my excitement about the Gospel and the teachings of Jesus Christ. It's almost like the priest didn't care that I wanted to worship God of my own accord, and preferred instead that I be forced into it against my will. It was extremely surprising. Needless to say, I went back to attending a Lutheran church and never wondered about Catholicism again. Most of my Christian acquaintances at the time were Lutheran, so it made more sense for me to stick to Lutheranism.

Given that you were raised Catholic, I'm not surprised you stuck to it. Sometimes, the best thing a man can do is to stay instead of running away, and face everything that is wrong, working hard to correct it bit by bit with patience and commitment. I think you are in the most perfect position to do so as someone who was raised Catholic. God praise you.

Looking into the system of the RCC at first glance you will be offended by the hierarchy, however looking further you will find the nuns, and many of the brothers are extremely devoted to the Savior, Yeshua.

It is easy to see how the original organization fell apart and how the leftover has maintained.

One should never blame members who are devoted to Yeshua, not of the RCC nor any other of the apostate denominations. Bless all from the heart, amen.

I grew up catholic. Grade school and all. I hope you are not conflating disagreement with hatred.

I don’t know a single Christian that hates Catholics. Most of us ex Catholics still have scores of friends and relatives that remain in that religion.

So it’s ALL about the doctrine. And the unfortunate truth is that Catholicism teaches damnable heresies that have led, and are leading legions of people to eternal destruction.

I hope you stay. Be blessed.

I live in a part of the UK called N Ireland, it has suffered the most bitterest bigotry and sectarianism for 100's of years, and in 1969 "the troubles" started, I lived through all of this, so I have seen this at its worst when so-called "Protestants" go out and murder innocent Roman Catholics and Irish Republicans terrorists, calling themselves the "Catholic Reaction Force" kill innocent Protestants. After "The Good Friday Agreement" the violence greatly reduced, but the sectarianism still continued and has even worsened, and more so from Protestants towards Roman Catholics.

I became a Christian in 1983, and even as a worldling the bigotry, hatred and sectarianism sickened me, so after I became a Christian I determined even more so never to have such in my heart against either, whether they were born again or not, I see the person and not the system they "belong" to. Neither Roman Catholicism or Protestantism has all the Truth, this is something each Christian has to seek out by searching the Scriptures for themselves.

If i understand this right you consider yourself a Catholic, but don't feel it's fair to be seen as being in line with the most common and predominant aspects of being a Catholic?
When you tag your name and identity with a group of course people are going to view you in light of what is considered to be vital beliefs of being under that label. That's simply how things work.
There was a recent article published that stated most people who call themselves Christians don't believe in the Gospels. Well it doesn't work like that. The Gospels are a key part of being a Christian.
All Catholics may not be the same, but the core teachings are held by the majority. To think people should simply assume you're part of a small, often unrepresented minority of a group is ridiculous.

I think the Pope draws some ire toward Catholics. He manages to say some pretty terrible stuff. Plus the whole thing about the preists that molested children, and the mishandling of it. That really drew some hate.
Any way stick around, I don't think many here will get too wound up over you being a Catholic. They are going to pick that church and it's teaching apart, so I hope you have some thick skin about that stuff.

So you think Catholicism is leading people to eternal destruction but at the same time are still friends and happy to have relatives who are Catholic?
maybe they are friends with you because they don't believe that, what's your excuse?
or is it the reason you are friends is because you recognize the essential sameness of your fundamental spiritual brotherhood in your heart, and only see the problem in your mind, in which case it is your theology that needs revision because you've recognised the actual truth but haven't processed it yet?
