The Greek word theopneustic is a composite word, thought by some to have been coined by Paul which literally means 'God-breathed' and conveys to us the understanding that Scripture is inspired and breathed out by God as an extension of Himself through His Spirit and further indicates to us the origin of the Scriptures as being not the words of man but the words of God: Divine words which are continually at work in all believers. ,

The Apostle Paul warns about abusing God-inspired scriptural Truths when writing his second letter to Timothy chapter 2 v14 with the words: 'Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarrelling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.

One of the ways that Bible content can be abused is by trying to prove a point when disagreeing with others. In the majority of these situations, the disagreement is about word and verse definition or faulty redactions and translations and then is often achieved some spurious outcome by claiming opinions to represent meaning, as opposed to seeking out and understanding the 'Truths' which are there for those who are prepared to see and understand.

In John 5:39 Jesus gave His warning not only to the Jews but to all when He said:: 'You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!' Let us not send out words to do battle against words to the detriment of God-breathed scripture but diligently search out Christ in both our reading and our understanding.

It can appear very foolish to those of the secular world when Christians become involved in petty and sometimes not so petty quarrels over trivial issues that all too often boil down to no more than semantics and which diminishes the life saving, God breathed, biblical Truths and this happens to both clerics and lay people.

There are many warnings in scripture about trivialising the Word of God and about those who do so. In Proverbs 18:2 we are told that 'Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight only in airing their own opinions.' thereby providing some enlightenment as to a possible motive.

The following are just a few of the many warnings given and there are many more.

2 Timothy 4:3
For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

2 Timothy 2:14
Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

2 Timothy 2:23-25
Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,

2 Timothy 2:14
Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers.

1 Timothy 6:4
He is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions,

Romans 14:1
As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions.

1 Peter 3:15

But in your hearts honour Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defence to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.

...faulty redactions and translations...
Since the Word is indeed God-breathed (divinely inspired), then Christians also need to also believe that it has been providentially preserved in the majority of manuscripts.

Therefore faulty redactions and corrupt translations are a major issue in determining which translation faithfully represents the original God-breathed manuscripts (which no longer exist, but are found in copies of copies of copies).

For those who have closely examined the matter, all modern translations since 1881 have been corrupted, since they are based upon corrupt critical texts derived from corrupted Hebrew and Greek manuscripts. Therefore the only trustworthy translation remains the King James Bible, which has been brought up to date in the King James 2000 Bible. The Geneva Bible runs parallel to the KJV but has a very definite Calvinistic bias.

Rightly dividing is the issue . Some read the bible according to their traditions and systems and little bible study is done by simply reading what it says .

Yes. that rightly dividing include the parables where the gospel meaning is hid. They teach us how to walk by faith . . the unseen eternal

If not divided they remain a parable .No spiritual meaning. The mystery remains . Many literalize by not rightly dividing the parables .The poetic tongue of God

We should never derive doctrine from a parable.

Parables are prophecy which without Christ spoke (prophecy) not..

Do we derive doctrine from prophecy inspired from above. ?

I would suggest it. . the doctrines of God is revealed in a parable below.

The word as denotes a parable is in view .It para (to come along side) as a comparisons compares the things seen to the unseen things of God. Water like blood represents the unseen Holy Spirit.

Deuteronomy 32:2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

Water or dew prepares the way for hearing the doctrines of God.

A good example is used with manna . The daily bread of unfamiliarity. The word of God.

The Israelites were temped to go back to the bondage of familiar food and do the extra day of work . He rained down manna . . a word that literally means . . What is it ? and set it on the dew. In a parable below

Numbers 11:9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.

A picture of God by a work of his faith purifies the hearts of mankind.

Acts 15:9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

Jesus spoke in parables so that some wouldn't understand.
10¶And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11¶He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
13Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
14And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
15For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
16But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
17For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

Nice post Derek1955. Maybe we should pick our battles. Especially when it comes to our fellow believers. We're all in this together trying to get things figured out. Until then, it's most important that we first love and respect each other. Be considerate of others. Treat others kindly. Be peaceable. Show the same loving spirit as faithful ones in the past have set the example.

Do you know that you have been MISINFORMED? Below is a quote from their website. And the Majority Text actually varies from the Received Text quite a bit (and it is also a misnomer, since all the existing manuscripts have not actually been examined): "But unlike Burgon, Pierpont and Robinson leave out of consideration the evidence of the ancient versions and patristic quotations, and deal exclusively with evidence from the Greek copies"

But the ASV was in fact the RV of Westcott & Hort, the first corrupt Bible to be published. Plus they have included the Apocrypha and call it "Deutero-Canonical" (which is also a misnomer, since there is no second canon). In other world DUMP the WEB, or you might get ensnared in a spider's web.

What is the World English Bible?
The World English Bible is an update of the American Standard Version of 1901, which is in the Public Domain. It has been edited to conform to the Greek Majority Text New Testament. This revision is also in the Public Domain, which sets it apart from other revisions of the American Standard Version, like the New American Standard Bible and the Revised Standard Version...

Well one cannot talk about "God-breathed Scripture" without understanding that (1) men have been attacking the written Word of God for a long time, (2) men have been corrupting the written Word of God also for a long time, and (3) modern Bibles DO NOT represent God-breathed Scripture in hundreds (or thousands) of ways.

Take Acts 8:37 as a good example, and see what happens to that chapter when you expunge that verse (as found in modern English translations). And the World English Bible (WEB) has done exactly that.

World English Bible BLANK (check out Bible Hub for all the other modern bibles with a blank space here).

things too wonderful for me to know.

, Yes the metaphor used in the parable .

Without parables Christ spoke not. Without metaphors Christ spoke not in parables.

Like the metaphor in the parable sweat as it were drops of blood .A indication of a work of his faith labor of love. .
Some ty and literalize the parable . Sweat indicate the work of the unseen spirit . Spit is used in the same way in another parable.

Luke 22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Another parable, A thousand years are as one day. The metaphor thousand represent a unknown.

We should never derive doctrine from a parable.
And yet in Matthew 13:35 we read: "That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world."

Also in Matthew 13:10-17 we read: "The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables? He replied, "Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. This is why I speak to them in parables: "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: "'You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.' But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

Only those whose hearts are not calloused truly understand the deep meaning of parables.

Yes and we are given the explanation ..Those that were Physically there did not . And yes those that were not learning of the Father ( the sheep ) hardened their hearts also ..My point was about doctrine. Its the epistles where we are to base our doctrines primarily for the church age . Its absolutely essential to understand all of the Bible . Its all for us ,but not all to us .
