About a yr. Before my diagnosis of cancer I bought a boat. Nothing pretty but had all I needed to step up my fishing hobby.
It ran fine and for a short time I enjoyed getting out on the water searching and finding "the big one" lol.
Then life happened and I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer.
I had to put away my new found hobby as the treatments left me weak and well let's just say my thoughts were more on getting well or going home. Praise God for his healing hand in the matter.
But that's not what this is about.
It's been about 5yrs now and this summer I pulled back the tarp to once again Pursue "the big one".
Of course the boat was in rough shape had to do a lot of cosmetic work due to the elements
The motor needed some TLC. To tell the truth I didn't know how to properly store it sooooo...
I had no knowledge of marine mechanics but with the YouTube and people with some knowledge I got it running again. But it wasn't running right... Stalling, hard starting, alarms, no power. So frustrating.
I finally went to a marine tech, told him the symptoms and what I did to fix it to no avail.
First thing he asked me was "did you follow the manufacturers recommendations".
Gas is gas....oil is oil....parts are parts ...right. nope.

One of the most powerful scripture in the Bible is found in it's very first verse.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
As we read on, everything that was created was created by him. It's held together by him.
There seems to be a lot of division in the body of Christ. In my short time here in CC I have been exposed to a multitude of beliefs all from the same book.....or is it.
Some call it doctrine, others call it theology, some say that it absolutely the word of God.
What I have come to find out is that the word of God is the same as his grace. That is to say it is sufficient.
Some feel the need to add on to make it arrive to a certain point. Others have taken away for the same reason.
Then there are others who search YouTube to explain what they are reading. Also reading books relating to a certain theology or doctrine rather than asking God to explain. Not Relying on the Holy Spirit to do what he has been called to do. Be our helper.
The question is are you critiquing the Bible by reading other books or viewing YouTube videos.
Or ....are you critiquing the other viewpoints with the word of God.
Hands down the word of God is just like his name.....above all others.
The word of God is and always will be the authority over all other thoughts and ideas..

Be not conformed but be transformed by the renewing of your minds.

Not only can the word of God transform but so can a false doctrine or off the wall theology.
What is renewing your mind.
Now you might say in defence that Paul read and wrote from other texts or that commentaries are safe and proven preachers and teachers are a safe bet for proof of truth but I caution you in love reminding you that antichrist started back in the early days of the church and is even now.
I'm not condemning or judging any one or anything but forewarning any one that has a ear to be cautious in what you read and hear.
Anti-christ is a system by a group of people with a godless agenda. It rears its ugly head throughout the history of the church. In the last days it will take it's form in a man that will rise to power to rule and declare he is God.
That is just the short of it.
There is a new cannon being written and on its way......be cautious saints please in what you expose yourself to.

By the way the motor is just in need of a little tune up after following the manufacturers recommendations.
This can only be done in the water and will need to have help as one drives and another adjusts what needs adjusting.

I'm usually a loaner have been most of my life. Even as a kid I find myself playing off by myself.
When the Lord decided to scrape the bottom of the barrel and found me he first placed me in a Pentecostal church. Laying of hands, tongues, busy, busy, busy.
I found myself chasing after the gifts of the spirit. Asking....praying ... hopeing.
I was blessed with the gifts of tongues and pray in tongues when I am urged.
I wore my gift as a badge of honor sad to say.
Not realizing how callus of a person I've become it took some time for the Lord to raise someone up to rebuke me.
You see I knew scripture but I didn't know the Lord. There was a day when I could scripture thump with the best of them. Verse, chapter, Greek, Hebrew what ever. Books galore, a passion for Gods word but not God. To be right was my objective. I was strong in knowledge but not in faith.
To be short....with many humblings the faithfulness of the Lord prevailed.
Yeah I still pray (in private) in tongues. My knowledge of the Lord is my life's story. Chapter and verse escape me from time to time and as some that know me when I post I use very little scripture verse which may throw up a red flag to some😏 and rightly so.
But God has put in my heart a love for the saints...a love for the lost A genuine concern for there well being.
Many of my post don't get read or responded to...as to say possibly there boring or old news or maybe don't make sense. Dunno.
But I am happy with just communicating with you all in my concerns.
God bless you all may his light shine upon each and everyone of you.

It is a good thing to know your God, your maker, the creator of heaven and earth.
It is even a better thing that he knows you.

("Paraphrased)
Lord.. Lord look at all the things we have done in your name.
And he answered and said...I never knew you😞😞😞

Great observations. But an even better is the record is your recovery. PTL.

I have the greatest sympathy with those who want to know the content and meaning of the Grand Book. It is a big and complicated Book which reflects the Mind that wrote it. It quickly brings even the sharpest of us to our limits. Nearly 1,200 Chapter of divinely inspired writing by the greatest - by far - Mind of the universe. But man was made in the image and likeness of this great God, and therein lies his struggle. We have a huge capacity for storing information, and this capacity is going to be filled with something. So the new and young Christian seeks a short cut to get to the truths of the Bible.

And if you had all the well-meaning "teachers" of the Word, AND all the evil men who would pervert God's Word, you are, by default, going to have a huge mound of nonsense out there. Here, for what it is worth, is my understanding. I claim no special qualifications, but I've been a Christian for 42 years and studied the Bible for 38 of those years. I was blessed with the time and money to gather the writings of many highly regarded students of the Word, and to compare them with the Word. The first result of this endeavor is that I will need at least the next age of 1,000 years to begin to understand the Word, and most probably eternity future to grasp it thoroughly. And I like that because it shows just how grand my God is. He has condescended to explain certain of His things to man in an understandable way - but even this brings this man to his limits very quickly.
  1. First, allow time. On a controversial or complex matter, give the Lord time to bring you under the correct teaching. He is on your side.
  2. A second result of my study is that if you don't understand a portion of scripture - admit it and wait for the time when God will reveal it
  3. Thirdly, never add or subtract from scripture. God, the Omniscient One, planned every Word. His message is in those words - WITHOUT ADDITIONS or SUBTRACTIONS. School yourself to ask; "DOES IT REALLY SAY THAT WHICH I PROPOSE?"
  4. Fourthly, along the road of studying the Bible, you will be faced with a number of T-junctions. Do I go this way, or do I go that way? If one way is obviously incorrect, and you go that way, TWO THINGS WILL HAPPEN; (i) you have chosen untruth and God will, sooner or later, allow your mind to darken (See Romans 1:21), and (ii) if you once want to go the right way, you will have to retrace every false step. This is good, but devastating for the pride
  5. Read Genesis very carefully and make a note of God's plans. He will NEVER change them. His councils are immutable. If Genesis 1:26-28 gives the purpose of man, it will never change. You will find this goal in all the Old and New Testaments
  6. Be true to the meaning of the Hebrew and Greek. You do not have to be a Hebrew or Greek Professor. There are many and wonderful reference works around. The authors of these works are under extreme peer pressure. They seldon write trash
  7. Be true to the grammar. Language is a transfer of ideas. It has rules to make this transfer of ideas accurate. If you don't stick to grammar, you create a chaos
  8. Be true to the context. It stops a wrong understanding very quickly because the idea must fit the context
  9. Read as many teachers as you can. This is being educated. You will soon see where the teacher makes his mistake and you won't have to make it yourself. God has attached Himself to man. He gives teachers (plural) so that they can examine each other. The final teacher is the Holy Spirit Who gives light. But you need the various teachers, if not to get the correct understanding, but to see the wrong one
  10. Be ready at all times to change your opinion. New and more accurate information always comes. If you've held a point for twenty years and you see that it was wrong, change your idea, even if you have to lose face. 20 years of ignorance is far better than sticking to something that is obviously wrong - and the Lord letting your view be darkened because you ignored the truth
  11. Lastly, if you latch onto the wrong understanding, you will know it soon enough. The rest of the Bible will present more and more problems. It is a wonderful test. Calvin had to hold something. So did Arminius. They both had great truths, but they knew that they had to ignore other truths to hold theirs. Then came others who reconciled these truths, but by then whole Churches had embraced either Calvin OR Arminius and felt that they could not admit a lack. This is the attitude of many on this Forum. They hold the half truth simply because they cannot admit that some other brother saw the whole truth.
