My take on the sabbath rest of God and why i keep it.

Sabbath is the last day of the week in a week of labors regarding our providing for ourselves and our loved ones.

In our sabbath rest our needs are met by Gods provision, that is why the sabbath is for man and not man for the sabbath.

it is a holy day and its keeping was to be remembered always.
It is not a day of worship or teaching but a day of rest from ones labors.
A day of trust in Gods provision and the completion of His works to fill the lack or need that remains after our own labors.

Jesus is our sabbath rest, providing for us in regards to our lacking in righteousness.
Not that we do not peruse holiness and righteousness making full use of the salvation we have been given
Even in the lack of the quality or completion of our works after Christ we can rest in the provision of God.

Even if all we have done in Christ is worthless and burned up we will still be saved though as through fire.
Yes we will suffer loss in regards to our salvation but if we labored under the lordship of Jesus are still saved.

Our giving ourselves to Jesus as Lord in word and deed is what makes us His.
While simply being His is what saves us.

Just as we remember his sacrifice for us in the lords supper and the purchase price at the start of Gods salvation for us.
We also remember our faith and trust in Jesus the lord of our sabbath rest as the completion of our salvation as we enter His Kingdom.

if we have given ourselves to his lordship over us we can surely trust that after we have completed our labors in Him in this life we too can rest in His provision, even if our deeds are found incomplete in the sight of our God.

Since i have take up keeping the Sabbath i am finding provision for my needs, my lack that did not come from my own labors and is totally undeserved.

Salvation is by Faith alone..... do i need to quote.....
obedience is not legalism. Faith in Gods grace does not give us an excuse to sin.
What is sin? = Rom_3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 1Jn_3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
Rom_5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence (Sin) might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

We can't be justified by keeping the law because we have all sinned and all broken the law. On our own we all fall short because the law condemns us all.

Do we throw out the law? is the law just for the Jews? What is the Law?

Rom_6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
Rom_7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
Rom_7:8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

Mat 19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

Jas 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
Jas 2:9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
Jas 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Jas 2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.
Jas 2:12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

The weekly sabbath was part of that law of liberty...

It is true that things changed at the cross.. The ceremonial laws that pointed to Jesus had no place any more. But God did not change.
The Israelite's were a means to take Gods love and truth to the world. Anyone that wanted to be a Jew was able to be one provided that they followed Gods laws and covenant.
When Hamor the father of Shechem went out to talk with Jacob, he agreed to become "one people" even thou they didn't have Abrahams blood.
Gen 34:15 But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised;
Gen 34:16 Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

Who are the Jews Today?
Rom 11:15 For if the casting away of them (Jews) be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?
Rom 11:16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
Rom 11:17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

According to Paul both Jews and Gentiles are part of the same tree, with the same roots and those roots have not changed.

Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
Rom 11:23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
Rom 11:24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?

It is the same olive tree, there is no difference between us. We have become spiritual Jews if we are grafted in.

The law is spiritual. Rom 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
Heb 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
Heb 10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

there was a change at the cross
Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
law of ordinance was abolished.
Heb 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. (read in context.)
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Luk 16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

A law was abolished but it is clear from all the other verses that a law remains..

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Most don't have an issue with 9 of the ten commandments but the only commandment that God said to remember is the one everyone is trying to make void.
Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

In this we find the rest for our souls in this He becomes our sabbath rest.
Jesus is our rest and we need to constantly come to Him to find rest and peace and hope.

But...
Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
Rom_6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

You don't keep them to be saved, you keep them because you love Jesus.

please show me from the Bible were Jesus has become our sabbath rest.
We can find rest in Jesus second by second of every day, but show me how Jesus has taken the place of the 4th commandment?

The Sunday law was made by the Catholic church when they hijack the gospel and excluded the Jewish presence of the day they changed everything I for 2,000 years we've been blinded by the Catholic beast system I am a Protestant believer. And a descendant of Abraham Isaac and Jacob. We serve the Catholic church for centuries and then one day I learned the word of God as a child and I realized I was not in the right church and decided to move away from the Catholic Church and became a Protestant at the early age. Nobody is obligated to worship on Sabbath or Sunday to know history and how today came about very important in the worship of God
Mmmno. That's not what happened. I know it's imperative to you that the Catholic Church is false but the Holy Spirit guided the Church to worship on the Lord's Day. I'll tell you how but first I want to affirm that the heart of Creation beats to a rhythm that is punctuated by the Sabbath. The Sabbath is as much a part of Creation as gravity.

The first Christians observed the Sabbath like Jesus did. They went to the synagogue to spread the Gospel. Then at sunrise on Sunday they gathered around the breaking of bread. Can you imagine with the resurrection so fresh how creation glorified Christ at every sun rise.

Eventually they were no longer welcome at synagogues. They couldn't observe the Sabbath thank God there was still a day set aside for the Lord. So the Moral obligation hadn't changed but by the guidance of the Holy Spirit the Church changed the ceremonial law of the day of rest. It really had little to decide. It recognized what the Holy Spirit was saying to the Church.

When you think of that primal and foundational heartbeat of Creation think of this pattern. At the end of the first day...1 has passed 1 is here now and five are yet to come The seventh day is also an eighth day yet one of the seven. And it is going to its destruction.
When Jesus was her the pattern at that time
5 have passed one is here now one is yet to come etc.
I hope you recognize the rhythm of Creation. The eighth day is also the first day and there is no night. For the lamb is our lamp.

And so today's church has decided that what is told in the OT does not really apply to God.

When Paul told the Colossians it was fine to obey God in celebrating salvation with feasts because the Gnostics were telling them that God was only spiritual so anything physical was not right, the church has used what Paul told them as a reason not to celebrate the feasts.

So the church judges those who believe in what God tells us about His creation as Sabbath keepers and Judaizers, yet those who believe the Lord go to church on the day they have declared a Sabbath because that is the day the church that God loves has decided on.

If they are told it is the decision of men, not of God, you can see the fleshly logic they come up with. It has become the logic universally accepted by almost every man who makes up the entire church.
You have not dealt with the scriptures that I quoted in post #11.

I know it's imperative to you that the Catholic Church is false
O, it very much is:

Paul VI Nervi Hall, at the Vatican (next door), where the 'pope' speaks in the mouth of the Serpent Head:

Outwardly beautiful to look upon, but inwardly full of dead men's bones (actual bones, actual pictures):

You see, to be an actual Catholic Cathedral, with a real authentic altar, there has to be at least one "relic" (bone, skin, blood, etc) in, under or near it. There's an entire ceremony of putting the relic in/on/near the altar for the Mass to be accomplished. See for yourself:

And that ain't all either. I have a lot more, having been Roman Catholic myself for 30 years ... even ministering for a brief time in a specialized ministry thereof, which EWTN said were 'expert in their field'.

Most (including most Catholics) do not understand what Roman Catholicism really is: (most do not see the horns of the Dragon until it is too late)

Now if you view it as law I see your defence mechanism but as it is written
Genesis 2
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. xref-4 [xref-1]
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Now here we see He sanctified it he hallowed it , separated that day so the Sabbath was proclaimed holy likewise who taught adam or abel or even cain how to sacrifice yet it was before Israel yet if you see when God cast adam and eve from eden they were given clothing of skin wich they were instructed on how to sacrifice to GOD wich we see later with Cain and abel and all through the bible and the Sabbath is of Divine nature for we see in the new heavens and the new Earth that the Lord is going to create .and the Sabbath Is part of the Creation Covenant that means it's a paradigm to be followed through all creation an on in that same passage it reads blessed is the man that keepeth the Sabbath and the Son of Man that taketh a hold of it and keepeth from doing evil on that day .and Jesus said also in Mathew 24 :20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: you see Jesus spoke of a future time if the Sabbath be nothing then why bring it up .(food for thought .and apostle paul spoke concerning being judged according to laws . But the law to them was but a schoolmaster so at that time people were being judaized by the orthodox
Certain groups today, such as the Seventh-day Adventists, erroneously teach that keeping the seventh-day Sabbath is a perpetual moral law meant for all people for all time and not keeping it is a sign of apostasy and disloyalty to God. They base their belief on Genesis 2:1–3, which tells of God resting after His creative work and then sanctifying the seventh day. They also argue that the New Testament teaches the continuity of seventh-day Sabbath observance by Christians, even after Christ’s death, yet these beliefs, are misguided. There is no universal moral obligation given in Genesis 2 to keep the Sabbath day. Sabbath observance in the Old Testament under the old covenant law was to be a memorial to God’s rest from His creative activity. “The seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work.…For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.” (Exodus 20:10–11). Who was God addressing in Exodus 20:2? Who did God bring out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery? THE ISRAELITES. Now go back and read post #11 again. Although God's rest on the seventh day (Genesis 2:3) did foreshadow a future Sabbath law, there is no Biblical record of the Sabbath before the children of Israel left the land of Egypt. *Nowhere in Scripture is there any hint that Sabbath keeping was practiced from Adam to Moses.

Matthew 11:28-30
Where in the text that you cited did it say, "Jesus is [our] rest"? I see where Jesus gives to us rest, from sin (transgression of the Law of God, the Ten Commandments), but I see no where in the text you cited what you said it says, neither do I see (read) it anywhere say that Jesus gave us rest from resting in/on the sabbath of the LORD.

Seems you are advocating works salvation, but call it 'rest'.

Isa_57:20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.

Simple. one word. "Jesus" (meaning JEHOVAH is my salvation (from sin)), and He being the Lord of the Sabbath.
The Sabbath is not the gospel. The gospel is the "good news" of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that BELIEVES.. (Romans 1:16)

*To "believe" the gospel is to trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation.*

The gospel is a message of grace that is to be received through faith. The gospel is not a set of rituals to perform, a code of laws to be obeyed or a check list of good works to accomplish as a prerequisite for salvation. The gospel is not salvation by "grace plus law, faith plus works" as Seventh Day Adventists teach. (Galatians 1:6-9)

Hebrews 4. Read slowly and prayerfully. Yet even so, where did you get the pharisaical idea that a commandment must be found only in the pages of Matthew to Revelation to be valid? Are you sure about that? I have some other commandments that exist only in the pages of Genesis to Malachi that you might desire to look at, unless you would like to throw them out too (like on witchcraft, &c)?

I love Colossians 2 (if only you would read it in its proper context and cease from taking it out of context):

Powerpoint here (let me know when you actually desire to discuss, rather than continue to ignore me as you have in the past on numerous forums)

https://archive.org/download/colossians-2vs-16/Colossians 2vs16.pptx
Sounds like typical SDA propaganda.

NEW LIGHT ON CEREMONIAL SABBATHS AND COLOSSIANS 2:16 - An unbiased reading of Colossians 2:16 will show that this is talking about not just "ceremonial Sabbaths." The words "ton sabbaton" or "sabbath days"; are the same words translated "Sabbath day" in Exodus 20:8 in the Septuagint (the Jewish translation of the Old Testament into Greek).
Look at Paul's reasoning, "Let no one judge you regarding a,

• festival - yearly Sabbaths,
• a new moon - monthly Sabbaths,
• or a Sabbath day - weekly Sabbaths (or if you wish Sabbath days)"
CHRIST, he goes on to say is the "Substance", these things were shadows.
When this passage is compared with Galatians 4:9 an obvious connection in Paul's teaching is revealed:

"But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again? You observe days and months and seasons and years."
Verse 10 flatly states, "you observe...",
• days (weekly Sabbaths, corresponding to "Sabbath days in Col. 2)
• months (new moons, corresponding to "a new moon" in Col. 2)
• seasons (the 7 feasts, corresponding to "festivals" in Col. 2)
• and years (the sabbatical year and the 50th year of Jubilee)
Obviously Paul is clearing speaking about the observances of all Jewish holy day, including the Sabbath.

Ignore you in the past on numerous forums? Which other forums and have you used a different avatar name on those other forums?

In regards to Hebrews 4, in verse 9, we read - So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. (NASB) Notice that the Greek word "sabbatismos" here is used no where else in the Bible! SDA's suggest that this is the word for "keeping the weekly Sabbath" when it is never used anywhere else in the Bible!

W. E. Vine, Greek Dictionary points out:

Sabbath rest (4520) (sabbatismos from sabbatízo = keep the Sabbath) literally means a keeping of a sabbath or a keeping of days of rest. It is used in this passage not in the literal sense (meaning to keep a specific day, the "Sabbath" day) but to describe a period of rest for God’s people which is modeled after and is a fulfillment of the traditional Sabbath.

SABBATISMOS a Sabbath-keeping, is used in Heb. 4:9, R.V., "a Sabbath rest," A.V. marg., "a keeping of a Sabbath" (akin to sabbatizoµ, to keep the Sabbath, used, e.g., in Ex. 16:30, not in the N.T.); here the Sabbath-keeping is the perpetual Sabbath rest to be enjoyed uninterruptedly by believers in their fellowship with the Father and the Son, in contrast to the weekly Sabbath under the Law. Because this Sabbath rest is the rest of God Himself, its full fruition is yet future, though believers now enter into it. In whatever way they enter into divine “rest,” that which they enjoy is involved in an indissoluble relation with God. (Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words)

Just the Israelites? You must have an emended version of scripture, for actual scripture says:

Exo_12:38 And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.
Num_11:4 And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
Lev 24:10 And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp;

Can you guess who was still there in Exodus 16 and 20, that God was still speaking with?

What was the nationality of Zipporah (Exodus 2:21)? What was the nationality of the other woman Moses later married (Numbers 12:1)?

Regardless of what few others were mixed in or who were proselytes to Judaism, the Sabbath was not offered to all the nations, but to the nation of Israel. Look at Deuteronomy 5:1-15 which gives the commandments to Israel. 2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. 3 The Lord did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today, all of us who are alive.

Nehemiah 9:13 - “Then You came down on Mount Sinai, And spoke with them from heaven; You gave them just ordinances and true laws, Good statutes and commandments. 14 “So You made known to them Your holy sabbath, And laid down for them commandments, statutes and law, through Your servant Moses.

Sabbath observance was a sign between God and Israel: “The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he abstained from work and rested.” (Exodus 31:16-17)

Here, after commanding Sabbath observance in Deuteronomy 5:12-14, Moses gives the reason the Sabbath was given to the nation Israel: “Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.” (Deuteronomy 5:15)

Ummm, no. It is historically used as literal keeping of sabbath in every known instance:

Sabbatis-mos [Sabbath - keeping] is a specialized word [from Sabbatizo, verb - Exodus 16:30; Leviticus 23:32, 26:34; 2 Chronicles 36:21, see also the LXX in all its uses; like as is the word Baptis-mos [G909], utilized [Mark 7:9, etc "βαπτισμους", literally thoroughly or totally washing] from Baptizo].

Notice that the Greek word "sabbatismos" here is used no where else in the Bible! SDA's suggest that this is the word for "keeping the weekly Sabbath" when it is never used anywhere else in the Bible!
Ummm, no. It is historically used as literal keeping of sabbath in every known instance:

Sabbatismos 01 - Plutarch, De Superstitione 3 (Moralia 166 A) [in certain critical editions, reads “βαπτισμούς” [an emendation], but others original read “σαββατισμούς”]:

Ummm, no. It is historically used as literal keeping of sabbath in every known instance:

Hebrews 3-4 (among many others; John 14:15; Exodus 20:6; Isaiah 56:1,8; John 10:16; Isaiah 56:2-7, Acts 4:24, 14:15; Revelation 10:6, 14:6-7, &c).

Hebrews 3-4 is clear.

Hebrews 4:3, "my (God's) rest" and "the works were finished from the foundation of the world", which is a direct reference to Genesis 2:1-3. It even uses the word "finished". God rested the 7th day in Genesis 2:1-3. It is His rest, the 7th day, the sabbath (rest) of the LORD thy God, Exodus 20:8-11.

Hebrews 4:4, "he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works", which "certain place" is Genesis 2:1-3; re-cited in Exodus 20:8-11. The 7th day the sabbath (rest) of the LORD thy God.

Hebrews 4:5, "my (God's) rest)", citing Psalms 95, which is citing Genesis 2:1-3; Exodus 20:8-11, etc. Again, this is the 7th day the sabbath (rest) of God at Creation in Genesis 2:1-3.

Hebrews 4:6, "remaineth", from when? "from the foundation of the world" as per Hebrews 4:3 and thus it is not new, but has been around from the beginning.

Hebrews 4:9, "rest", sabbatismos, literally and truly sabbath keeping in scripture and in all known extant Greek sources, dictionaries, and so on and again "remaineth".

Hebrews 4:10, "his (God's) rest", which is the 7th day the sabbath (rest) of the LORD thy God from Genesis 2:1-3., "as God did from his (works)", which "works were finished from the foundation of the world" as per Hebrews 4:3.

Hebrews 4:11, "that rest" (ie God's rest), the 7th day the sabbath (rest) of the LORD thy God.
