Calling Jesus "Lord,' without choosing to obey Him with one's life, is useless and is not able to save anyone.

there we see a weakness in the great Mac debate

he does not seem to understand that without the Holy Spirit, no matter the great works we do, we are exulting our flesh

we are not able to save ourselves and our works do not please God, in fact, they insult Him

we need to be aware of the difference between saying what someone wants to hear and actually allowing the Holy Spirit to work in our hearts and cleanse us as we walk though this life

salvation is instant, but the Holy Spirit conforms us to the image of Christ if we lay down our pride and self righteousness

“And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;

but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭

“Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God.

He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:”
‭‭2 John‬ ‭1:9-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

‬ ‭
“And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:46-47‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

...Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38-39, 41‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:16-22, 24‬ ‭
It looks like you and I are in agreement on this subject! Those are good Bible verses on the subject. Repentance is a necessary part in the attainment of salvation. And without it, there is no pardon for sins.
Judas, the betrayer of Jesus, was described by Jesus and not being clean, although Jesus had washed all of their feet with water, at the last Passover. This was because he had had no repentance - no heart change. He'd heard Jesus' preaching a lot - but it hadn't affected him in producing repentance.

John 13:11

11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

I quote what you say below

Quote
And why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I say? Luke 6:46 He was addressing the Pharisees

End quote

You believe when Jesus say why do you call me Lord Lord, He is addressing Pharisees
Jesus not addressing Pharisees. Jesus addressing people that call Him Lord, Oharisess not call Him Lord, Pharisees don't believe Jesus as a God.
read the verse in the Bible. Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees

feel free to be insulted and interpret it any ole way you want

however, Jesus will still be speaking to the Pharisees

My Jews friend not even believe that Jesus is God.
you just don't get it.

you need some background.

God was also referred to as 'the LORD our God'

I know Jesus was speaking to the public, but the Pharisees were addressed a little further up in that chapter and we are told they were always watching Jesus to see if they could find something to condemn Him with

when Jesus says why do you not obey me, it harkens back to the commandments.

this has nothing to do with your friend and the Pharisees would have called God 'Lord' but Jesus revealed He was God

basically, Jesus is saying, again, you are hypocritical to say God is your Lord (remember He had not yet died) but yet your hearts are not lining up with your words. also remember that by then, the law given by God had been corrupted and the religious leaders had added to it and interpreted it to suit themselves

this is not about becoming a Christian or what we should do as Christians. we have Acts on to Revelation to teach us about that. of course we can also apply what Jesus says and I never said otherwise

I really think you are fussing over nothing. but just go ahead if you think you have to

What do you mean by God in this sentence? Father God?

Remember Jesus say Me, refer to Himslef.
I thought I was pretty clear

we are dealing with two testaments here. the new covenant had not yet begun

YOU know about it and maybe you are placing that lens over the related events in the gospels, but that will only confuse a person

look at it from the OT perspective, while keeping in mind Jesus is God but came to earth to fulfill the law and He did so perfectly

the op is relating her belief in MacArthur's understanding of salvation. that's a problem

if a person is going to use Jesus statement 'why do you call me lord but do not do what I say' as a reference for salvation, they are going to ADD to God's grace and confuse what Jesus said to those who were supposed to represent God.

Jesus never said call me Lord and do as I say for salvation. if keeping commandments were the way to salvation, if works were the way to salvation, Jesus would not have had to die in our place.

yes, Jesus IS Lord and salvation is of God. period. there is nothing we can do for our salvation except for accepting it

the gospel...the word gospel means simply GOOD NEWS , but going back to the old testament and demanding works is not good news. that is the exact same yoke and burden Jesus came to do away with

as for works, we are created to do GOD'S works . people throw the word works around and think it's stop smoking, drinking and swearing

actually it is this:

For we are His workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

salvation is God's good works to us and for us and He created us to do works that HE had prepared for us to do. these are not the 10 commandments and they are not flogging your flesh as some do

those good works that God prepared for us to do are everyday living for Christ. God desires that we are becoming like His Son...conformed to His image as scripture tells us. remember, God first created mankind in His image (Genesis 1) and that image was marred through sin. So, God loving His creation, John 3:16, sent His Son to become the Way to get back to God's intent. only, this time, sin can no longer hold sway over us...NT truth, so it's a 'done deal'

ALL is God's work and we cannot improve on it!

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2: 8-10

17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:17

you have to believe the gospel Jesus preached that’s what transforms .

“And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the issue for man is inside of us we have a corrupted knowledge , perception .

“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭7:21-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

that is where satans foothold
In man is so that this is true

“In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:25-26‬ ‭

Satan has a foothold in mans heart our thoughts and ideas , desires . We were infiltrated when we partook of the corrupted knowledge of good and evil it created a conflict in us

“I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭7:21-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Our hearts are the issue and that’s where we need to believe the gospel of we do it will straighten out our views about everything such as sin , righteousness, what Gods will actually is ect.

if we reject the things Jesus taught we are rejecting the Holy Spirit and what he taught.

do you see where Paul told Timothy “ preach the word ....that God would grant repentance to the acknowledging of the truth so they can escape the snare of the devil who’s taken them captive ?”

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
‭‭John‬ ‭18:37‬ ‭

we have to accept the truth

“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That’s what transforms us

“And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

we have the truth to believe and be saved To be reborn in our heart and mind

“Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

when Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost and began to preach the gospel , that is the doctrine of God and his salvation he promised to send . It’s still the same today

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

repentance and belief go hand in hand as we acknowledge the truth we will be led into real repentance and the word of God will begin to manifest as he works in us to will and act according to his will through our faith alone we are changed.

it’s different to say I believe , and To accept and believe Something . We need to forget what we thought we knew about God and Go to him and learn and believe

Let me repeat your statement.
We (Christian ) created in Christ for good work.

If I accepting Jesus but I still commit adultery in my heart every days, am I save because He forgive me

Created for good work, what is that mean?

I am very clear on scripture and there is nothing you are going to enlighten me about. that is not bragging, it is just a simple fact as I am sure many on this site would say the same thing

I have made no such comment as you attest to. I have never in my entire life, once I started to study on my own and was no longer a child, made any indication that God began in the New Testament and you are just plain mixed up and do not understand what it is I have said

I will say this again though. Jesus saying 'why do you call me Lord but do not do things I tell you to do' is not a picture of how to be saved

are you another MacArthurite? well good for you

sorry

I am just one of those 1st century type believers who have faith in God's grace and who have accepted Jesus as the One who died in my place for my sins

I am not sorry if that does not satisfy your desire for added burdens to salvation, but there it is

I believe the word of God which is why I do not believe the word of MacArthurties

notice, the word Christian...one who follows Christ, as opposed to MacArthurites, one who follows MacArthur

We try to know who Jesus mean people that call Him Lord.

You say it Pharisees.

What is correlation between your statement above and this subject?

Because NT not begun than Pharisees call Jesus Lord?

Thanks for your time,
I know I am not as smart as you and my English not as good as yours

If you dont want to discuss Mitch me that is fine, nut one think I sugess
As christian you have to show love though when you talk to people that not as smart as you like me.
One more think I notice

You not agree with Jesus

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me,

Not every one who call zjesus Lord enter...kingdom
It is talking about salvation

And you say it is not talking about your salvation

I know you are smart, but you not agree with Jesus.

John 3 (ESV)

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God."

1 John 3 (ESV)

3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. 4 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 6 No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.

I know you are smart, but you not agree with Jesus.

the actual problem is your very bad English

I totally agree with Jesus

you do not understand English and demand I agree with what you post

I can't even understand what you post half the time

maybe take some English classes you don't accuse people of things they never said when the problem is that YOU do not understand what they said

I will know to avoid your little traps in the future.
