Then you have people such as Bob Larson who takes it even further, declaring pretty much any negative as a spirit. Such as a spirit of smoking. And, of course, this often requires casting that spirit out of you, and usually over and over. Sometimes once a week.
I was taught this. Behind everything is an evil or unclean spirit. I was taught that, through sin these spirits have rights to the sinning believer. I ended up condemning myself a lot of the time and believed I had many evil spirits because of the struggles I faced.

I dont think its related to being exclusively male or female, but more using seduction as a tool for idolatry.
so that spirit could actually inhabit either gender.

I think because the original Jezebel was female and behaved so badly for her gender that shes singled out, but really she was only doing the same kind of things as the evil kings did. It is just that she was not an israelite.

This reminds me of two elders in my former church who are very big into healing ministries, such as that of Charles and Frances Hunter. At one of their classes, they showed a video of the Hunters talking about an overweight woman who had come to either them or their students and said, "Brothers and sisters, I need for you to pray for this demon of FAT to be cast out from me!"

The people leading the seminar paused for moment, looked at each other, and one of them finally said to her, "Sister, this kind can only come out by prayer -- and fasting."

I have no doubt that there is active demonic activity working against us. But what gets me is when people get to a point where they want to blame EVERYTHING on demons, thereby completely dismissing personal choice of actions or responsibility.

Even God wouldn't accept Adam and Eve's excuses when they tried to blame their disobedience on anything but themselves.

christians ought to have a regular...'my bad, Im sorry, I was wrong, I misunderstood, please forgive me' in our vocabulary.

not...'that person over there did it, it wasnt me' which ....sigh...happens far too often.

Well nuts, you beat me to it. I was going to riff off of Subhumanoidal's post and claim I had a spirit of chocolate possessing me. Or maybe a spirit of ice cream.

That sounds tiring. You could wear down even a big-name television evangelist casting out demons that often.

And think how much it would cost to retain the services of a pastor to kick out demons once a week! Even hiring Matlock to defend you in court would be cheaper!

The irony of claiming to b christian yet protesting the use of the term jesebel spirit. Like the bible does not use men as examples of what not to b?

"Jesebel spirit? I dont know what your talking about she died thousands of years ago. Never met a jesebel spirit in my life if they ever did exist! Definitely not me. Or anyone i know." Just rename the post to any jesebel spirits here? testing 1 - 2.

This made me laugh, but it is a very cogent point. I believe that actual demonic infestation is quite rare, but I also believe that it would be much rarer if Christians would own their c**p and deal with it appropriately and thoroughly instead of excusing and even fostering it.

To the thread topic, there is no "Jezebel spirit" in Scripture, period. There are two persons named Jezebel; the wife of Ahab at the time of Elijah, and the mystery woman in Revelation 2. The first was indeed a manipulative and cunning idol worshiper. The second was likely a convert (or covert?) from one of the Gnostic mystery cults who brought her old ways with her into the church. The two are quite distinct.

I would encourage anyone who hears the term used, especially in reference to a particular person, to request a specific explanation of the alleged behaviour and specific and clear linkage to biblical information. Without that, the term is nothing more than baseless slander. That's not to say there isn't a real problem brewing, but labeling it as "a Jezebel spirit" is unhelpful at best and divisive at worst.

I have heard the term used in reference to any woman who exhibits capability or interest in leadership in a strictly-complementarian church; I consider that small-minded and disgusting.

If I was there, I would have responded to the video, "Brothers and sisters, I need you to pray to take this demon of ignorance out of this ministry".

I've always wondered, why (within the church community) has there been so much focus on a "Jezebel spirit", especially as an assumed separate entity?

I grew up in a church that did not assign various evil spirits to coordinating traits in people, but in my 20's, I went to an Assemblies of God church that taught about such things as the "Jezebel spirit" (and seemed to nearly assign demons to almost any circumstance.)

Why are there not assigned evil spirits to other women (or men, for that matter) of the Bible as well? For instance, why doesn't anyone talk about a Queen Vashti spirit (from the book of Esther, refusing to obey her husband's call to be put on display)?

And even more on point with the "Jezebel spirit", why doesn't anyone talk about an "Ahab spirit"? Petulant, moody, throws tantrums when he doesn't get what he wants, allowing himself to be lead by evil counsel, and no remorse about mowing anyone and everyone in his way.

This is more than enough fodder to shape up an evil entity in itself.

So why doesn't anyone discuss an ""Ahab spirit" as Jezebel's counterpart?

(I am not asking the OP in particular; I've just always wondered why so much attention has always been given to Jezebel and not to Ahab.)[ QUOTE]

There are those who talk about an Ahab spirit (Nelson Schulman ministries for example ) but it isn't talked about nearly as much. Ahab spirits are.almost.seen as victims and the Jezebel spirit as evil. Both Ahab and Jezebel were wicked

Also codependency is a character flaw so if the an ahab is codependent and easily led that is his sin too!

Ahab was no victim. Allowing yourself to be manipulated or bullied into sin doesn't get you off the hook. Elijah was really persecuted by jezebel and guiltless, Ahab was a sap who allowed himself.to be used.

Our first pastors wife fitted the definition. But later I seen the spirit at work. Hard to walk away from both without causing a stir. But I didn't get much support from guys I told. They didn't believe it

thats kinda weird
to be in a church with the jezebel spirit operating, though I have seen it in other situations where its you dont know until it hits you that the person has basically charmed you and completely lied about something to get their own way.

marketing gurus might call it schmoozing, but its more indisduous.

It wasn't directly in church but more wear yeah I was volunteering to do charity work at a different site that she managed. I was stupid and hurting so when someone showed care I didn't scrutinise. I have slowly learnt that we should not rely on people. It is a work in progress. Just like any machinery each has its strengths and weakness

charities do need to be accountable, was reading 3 cups of tea and it came under fire when the man who was building schools in remote villages in pakistan got called out for his book that presented a somewhat false picture of his deeds.

he had to pay $1 million back because he didnt account for his expenses, people were giving huge donations and assuming the money went to build schools, but a lot of it went on his expenses, travel, etc.

I dont think it was jezebel spirit though, just his ghostwriter made him out to be more of a hero he really was. People that donated money understandably felt a bit gypped.

it turns out that ghostwriter/co writer commited suicide after it turned out he fabricated some of the events in the book.

Its easy to tell a lie, hard to live it down.
