I don't really make new years resolutions. I sort of think of them in the same way I think of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Ppl always say at Thanksgiving you should take stock of your life, what you have, family, friends etc.
I think I should be thankful daily, not just once a year.
At Christmas we're told it's a time of giving to others without thought of what we get in return.
Again,I feel like I should be like this year round, not just one day where things seem all magical and festive.
I'm not knocking the holidays at all. They're great! But really shouldn't we be doing these things in our lives,or at least trying to anyways?
New Years resolutions can be made daily, and put into practice all the time.
Sometimes I just don't like all the hype surrounding these occasions.
If it helps to make a list of things you resolve to do or be in the upcoming year I suppose ... 😄
they're basically christian holidays for the benefit of non- christians who dont believe/thankful or giving any other time of year. Thats why they are called HOLY days. To remind them.

This was from 2013...

If at first you don't succeed, that's one data point.

words of scarlett O hara come to mind 'I'll never be hungry again' 'tomorrow is another day'

2020 its like we've all been through a war

I wasnt on the front line but keeping things going at home and not going crazy was kinda tough. Im thankful that I hadnt lost anyone close to me...

went to a cousins funeral last wednesday (not from covid) though we werent close friends GOd gave me assurance that shes at peace. And thats all that matters.

My New year's resolution is the same as the one I made last year. I resolved not to make any New year's resolutions.

This resolution of course breaks itself. And with the making and breaking out of the way, I am free to enjoy New year's eve.
And for once Lynx beat me to what I was going to say (or at least a really similar variation thereof). Probably because I was resolved to stay safe and time my holiday travels to avoid the winter storms or having to shovel a foot of snow off the drive in the dark.

And that was one resolution I kept.

I usually make resolutions around my birthday. That is REAL new year's for an individual in my opinion.

Wouldn't matter if you had beat me. I've been making the same resolution for four or five years here, every time this thread type pops up. If you had beat me I would have just hunted up one of my old posts and claimed you copied me.

Kidding of course. That would be really tacky. But it was fun to say.

In ascending order of difficulty:

Read 52 books averaging 300 pages apiece.

Make another stride forward in my career and paying off my debts.

Find me a woman. Either an old flame or new love. Doesn't matter. Being single is for the birds.

aside from learning to read and write chinese (difficult, but some is better than none) I think one resolution I am going to make is to aim for being zero-waste

That means use up everything I have or give away excess to others who need it. And not buying things I cant use.

I already practice this in gardening but it can be applied to other areas of life too. Scraps can be useful and so can weeds. I just think this throw away society / trash it and move on lifestyle that we live in is really bad for the environment. If I want to still be living here in a decades time we got to start in our own homes.

Post the top 5 things that you want to accomplish in the next year to better yourself! I posted this in singles forum because this can tie into finding a special someone too. Maybe there's things that are holding you back from finding that person, well what say you cc ?

1. Get down to 150 lbs ( currently 165 )
2. Finish first year of university
3. Learn Spanish
4. Finally do that cross country road trip to California
5. Smile more! (Because people say I'm far too serious haha 😂)
Those are some pretty good resolutions! What are ya gonna do to lose that 15 pounds?

1. Finish up my Bachelor's and do my student teaching.
2. MOVE OUT OF MY APARTMENT!
3. Get a reliable car :( :(
4. Get to my goal weight <3
5. EAT AS MANY TACOS AS I CAN

I had two things but not five. sorry, I cant think of anymore.
I dont know if its holding me back from 'finding someone' though.

I can just go on google to find someone, or facebook or the site 'find someone'. Which I have already done. Finding someone isnt the same as keeping someone though. hmm

I'm hoping 2021 is better for everyone overall, and goals for myself:
1. Get over my missed opportunity
2. Learn how to do a split
3. Be disciplined with working. I'll be good for awhile then stop
4. Maintain my friendships
5. Save up enough to move out of my apartment

Foxtrot comic strip:

DAD: "What ya doing honey?"
MOM: "Planning my new year's resolution diet."
DAD: "Whoa, it's way too early for that! We still have all those Christmas cookies to eat."
MOM: "You mean we HAD all those Christmas cookies to eat."
DAD: "Um... weren't there, like, 13 dozen?"
MOM: "Yup. Now for January I'm sticking entirely to lettuce..."

I don't think I've ever kept one, so I don't make them anymore. If you've really decided to do something, you can start any day you want. :) Every day is a new day. I've made a resolution recently to chill out with coffee creamer, and been doing it. (By chill out with, I mean cut down on it )
