James chapter 5:16 is a powerful lesson about prayer. In this application, I believe the Lord by the Holy Spirit has given it to me. Here it is

16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

This also is somewhat parallel to what Jesus said in Matthews 5:44
"
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,"

And it lines up with Matthew chapter 6 as a model of and for effective prayers.

see:
Matthew 6:6

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

This is very important :

Matthew 6:14-15
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

To know what you are praying for is the will of God can be sometimes hard to see because we have things that are making our prayers not heard by God. The number one reason why prayer does not get answered is " Unforgiveness.

As we read in James it says the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous person availeth much. Means One who is in a right relationship with God who prays God hears. The contrast is those who are not HE doesn't hear.

step one to effective prayer is self-examination with repenting
step two Forgive others: family, friend, and yes those who have wronged you which can also be friends and family :)

Once you have done these two what is next?

James says to Pray for others. This was a very powerful revelation of prayer. "Pray one for another THAT YOU MAY BE HEALED" JAMES 5:16

How do you pray for another effectively?
You pray as if it was your need, your family member, you who needed the blessing. When you start to think of your own child when praying for them as if it was yours LOOK OUT! The power of the Holy Spirit will come upon you.

Someone has a child bound by drugs I see that child as my own and cry out to God as if it were my mind. "Pray one for another " that you may be healed" or your child will n to enter into drugs and addiction pray for salvation as if it was your own family needing it.

WE on social media when some ask for prayer or going through a very difficult time we say "praying for you" or little memes with hearts and hands folded. BUT are we going before God on their behalf? I leave that to you and God.

We need to take seriously prayer because God takes seriously those who are praying and HE hears them.

Once you do this your prayer life will never be the same you will have a heart for prayer and the Holy Spirit will lead you into deeper prayer and power. God bless you all as you pray.

let me summarize effectively praying:

1. repent and confess your sins
2. Forgive those who have wronged you
3. prayer for others as if you needed it or a family member in that situation
4. Know that because you are in an aright relationship with God, HE expects you to pray for others and God desires to hear your prayer for others.
5. know and have no doubt when you pray for others with will bless you in the same way you are praying for others.

I have often wondered about how much the Lord holds a person accountable to that?
Personally, I have come to a point where I feel like if I am NOT going to follow through in prayer as described above, and only mutter things like "Oh Lord, help them/bless them/heal them" etc........ that I had better not even say or suggest "I'll pray for you".

the one thing is prayer grows and praying is an act of faith. The Holy Spirit leads us to pray effectively. The word of God says when we don't know how to pray as we should the Holy Spirit helps us Romans 8:26-27

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

WE just need to ask Lord to help me to pray as the Disciples in Matthew 6 when they said to teach us to pray. They were asked to teach us to pray effectively why?

Because they saw the prayer of the Lord being answered. Jesus is teaching them what stops your prayer, how to pray, what to ask for, and Pray for others.

James chapter 5 captures much of Mathews 5 & 6 on prayer. The Spirit is always willing but the flesh is not. This is the battle have faith and pray the best you can and when you do pray for others pray as if you needed it. According to the word of God you will see prayers answered as never before :)

When I first became a believer, I, like many of you, had many problems in my prayer life as well. Then the Holy Spirit in me brought some very intersting things to my mindset when reading God's Word. 1. Have a purpose!! You are partaking in food! ( Rom 12:2) 2. How much do you really want to hear from the Lord? ( Matt 7:7)

Ask,seek, and knock. These 3 actions are required to receive, I have found out anyway how I broke through to receive my answer. Ask- The first stage,( Psalm 100:1-5) ( 1 Thess 5:18) God knows me,there is no fooling around with empty words to me,so I thank him, praise him,and make no request on this stage. stage

2 SEEK Here is where you prepare yourself for the knocking stage! ( 1 Chron 16:11) ( 2 Chron 7:14) (Isaiah 55:6) Acts 17:27) and Proverbs 8:17)This stage also for those who fast, recieve extra zip!! LOL A quicking I call it.

You empty both your body ( feeling) and you mindset here!! Your looking to dwell into miracle land! You will know when you arrive there!! Because here in this dwelling place there are only two people present here,Jesus, and you,and now you can knock!

Your standing in FULL ASSURANCE!!!!( 2 Tim 1:12) There is much more to explain, but you get the idea. This helped me greatly,so please take this and run with it!!! Its fabulous!

Maybe sometimes it’s not you...

Daniel‬ ‭10:12-13‬ ‭
Then he said to me, “Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.”
