Do you make out big wish lists for things you want from God? I do. I always get everything I want!:giggle: (NOT)

I do believe we are to make our request know to God...

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

He wants us to talk to Him. He never slumbers and He is a good listener.

Can you think of any reason why you didn't get what you wanted?

Please keep this verse in mind...

Isaiah 64:4 For since the beginning of the world [men] have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, [what] he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

It may help get us started. It may also help us avoid some wrong answers. God bless you.

a selfish view of things is one reason we don’t receive things when it’s all about what we want , our desires and we want more to make our own selves more comfortable praying for worldly items and associations of the lists of the flesh

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
‭‭James‬ ‭4:3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

in the gospel Jesus said that those who believe the gospel and walk therin learning the right heart and mind would receive the things they ask for

they weren’t asking for many of the things we ask for they were asking for healings , for thier basic needs to be met , for others to awake into the gospel and be saved , for deliverance out of perils in order to deliver the gospel to the world

I think the key for us is to remain in the parameters of the gospel in prayer and make sure our requests are approved of the one we’re asking

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.”
‭‭John‬ ‭15:7-8, 10‬ ‭

The gospel teaches us things like this

“No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭16:13-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

when we pray we can’t be abiding here

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭2:15-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We try as Christians to sit on the fence enjoying the lists of the world and also the promises of salvation but his promises are based in the terms he set forth

our prayers should resemble his teachings about prayer and our requests will be in line with the gospel and faith brings those things to pass

Blessed be the day when our will lines up with His will. Our wishes with His wishes.

I am just glad that God knows me better than I know myself...HE knows my deepest need He loves me and He knows what's best for me...though sometimes I complain and I ask Him why...I truly understand that in everything He is working for my good 😇 Thank you LORD ❤

Blessed be the day when our will lines up with His will. Our wishes with His wishes.
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;

and all these things shall be added unto you.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:33‬ ‭

“For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭12:30-

there is a righteousness that comes through the gospel of the kingdom that becomes written on our hearts over time as we dwell in his word and ways with purpose as we seek after him and this righteousness of faith were told about

“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:21-23‬ ‭

this righteousness in the gospel of the kingdom needs our belief to operate. If we believe he is revealed to us from “faith to faith “ as our knowledge and faith grows so does the appearance of righteousness in Christ and we are clothed with christs righteous mind and heart within us

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:16-

as we grow in faith and don’t stomp out the new growth with our disputing and disbelief we are changed into what we could not be and are able to be free of things we never had been able to before because it’s about changing who we are inwardly through our belief

Hi Oyster,

A good thread you've started(y)

I haven't made a list but I am sure that I have asked for things a miss at some point or other, I'm just a pilgrim on the way. But the more we read God's word and learn what God is like, what he wants from us - to be more and more like His Son, then I think our prayers and request's become more aligned with His will (I pray this for myself).

I definitely agree here:

I do believe we are to make our request know to God...

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

He wants us to talk to Him. He never slumbers and He is a good listener.
He's a good Father indeed!

And the tough question - Can you think of any reason why you didn't get what you wanted? (The answer to that is yes and I know the answer why lol.)

We've got good answers in the posts above.

There are other reasons, we might ask for something that although in and of itself may be a good thing, God might not see it as good for us or we being the right person for the request?

Or, that a request has actually been answered and we just haven't seen the end result, or it could be a work in progress and we might not see the result in our life times?

Anyhow just a few thoughts.

no, I dont really make big wishlists to God.

I mostly just talk to Him. I ask Him about stuff, I dont really ask FOR things *I* want. I usually ask for wisdom. Or how to show love others or the right or best way to do something.

Sometimes I pray for things like rain. Its not just for me.

I believe that this is the key to answered prayer, when your prayer is aligned with God's will and desire.
Amen

Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭37:3-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.

Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16:2-3, 6‬ ‭

Being surrounded by lush green pastures does not always bring us closer to God. Lot chose the "better land". He lost his wife and almost his life!

Genesis 13:10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it [was] well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, [even] as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.

All humanistic and selfish wish lists are cancelled by this one statement: "Thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven". Christians -- by definition -- must be praying in this manner at all times. So Christians could create wish lists based on God's wishes. Those could be very long lists.

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:19-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If we start to look into Gods eternal
Kingdom I think prayer would be understood much more to its purpose.

what if we ask the question in a different way . Why is it that prayer is effective ?

This has always been my faith and belief on prayer. Thank you for voicing what we should all know.
