Genesis 2:7
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul

Was a spirit added to a soul?
Did man naturally have a carnal/dead mind as a soul, but then God gave it spiritual life?
Is original sin about the human spirit becoming carnal as well?

Isn't God's version of "living" and "death" different than ours?

1 Thessalonians 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Was the spirit added by default because of what God did?

Does a spirit experience time?

1 Corinthians 15:45
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;

and man became a living soul.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

a living soul is a man or creators with a living spirit inside. Man wasn’t a living soul until he received a living spirit , the spirit wasn’t a soul until it was put into the body both together make a soul a spirit in a body, a man

Soul is often interchanged with spirit because that’s the living part.

1 plus 1 equals two

a body and a spirit inside equals a living soul.

if you take 1 away from 2 you no longer have 2 for a soul To be alive it has to be a living spirit inside a body and the spirit brings life and that’s a living soul you are one

“And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.”
‭‭Joshua‬ ‭10:35‬ ‭

all the living people were destroyed that day

“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:41‬ ‭KJV‬‬

about three thousand living people were added to the church that day when they gladly received his word and were baptized.

Paul and Luke were in the boat with

“And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭27:37‬ ‭

a soul is a whole living person body and spirit. Once those two come together and form a soul it is what the spirit becomes within the body the spiritual everlasting person within is a living soul

Do unbelievers have a spirit, but one without spiritual life?

I believe so - unbelievers have a spirit but it is dead until the rebirth in Christ.
Being spiritually dead does not mean spiritually inactive. Spiritually dead being separated from GOD. satan is spiritually dead - separated from GOD'S spirit but he is not spiritually inactive. I think the same holds true for humans. Some humans can be and are spiritually dead but are spiritually active.

The modern concept about the spirit, spirits and the soul is invented by the devil, everything that God does the devil has a deception that is close to the truth but different enough to cause confusion.

Think of it like this..
Electricity flows into a light bulb and it gives light, = the light is on.
If you cut the electricity or the light bulb is broken it will not give light. = the light is turned off or doesn't work.

God is the source of all life (electricity) and He gives life continually to His creation.
So why do we die. Because the physical body breaks down gets sick and can not work. The electricity is there but we can't use it when we are broken. The light bulb has a life time and it dies. the physical body can't work without a brain or a heart.

God will give us a perfect body that will not die in the future. Until then the soul does die.

Eze_18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Eze_18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Rev_16:3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

Definitely they have a spirit or various spirits. Example:

Romans 11:8
(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear) unto this day.

Oh, WOW, I wonder if this could be one of the four winds that the angels are holding back in Revelation
...so even the unbelievers will know what is going on?

The more accurate translation is "living being". However, it is true that man is spirit, soul and body. The spirit is the part of us that was breathed into the lifeless form of Adam. By God's power, the soul formed at the same time. The spirit is intended as the place where God will dwell. The soul is intended as the means of expressing what is in the spirit.

Adam never accepted Life (as in the fruit of the tree of Life) into his spirit. The part of Adam that died was the spirit. That left Adam with only the natural life in his soul to go by. His disobedience caused him to be cut off from God. His soul became subject to the principle of good and evil. His problem was that he had no spiritual life to help him and guide him. The sorry history of the human race is independence from God and the vain attempt to do the "good" thing at all times.

The reason that we must be born again is that our spirit man is dead to God and there is nothing that we can do about it. Only when we accept Christ can we be born again. It's much more than agreeing with the facts about Christ. It is receiving Him and believing in Him as Lord and Saviour.

In order to receive a new spirit, the old must be removed. We enter natural life by birth and leave by death. Spiritually, we must also die for the old spirit to be removed. That is why we are crucified with Christ and then raised together with Him. This is not some metaphor or allegory. We really do die and we really are raised to new life.

Once we are born again, we have the same choice as Adam. We can live according to the indwelling Lord Jesus, in the person of His Holy Spirit. Or try to live by our own understanding and willpower. I've done it both ways. My ways are not God's ways and never will be. Life is far better when it's the Lord Jesus doing the living and not me!

I haven't heard it said like this before, very interesting. For our Spirit to be renewed ..it actually joins Jesus on the Cross. Wow!

A carnal/dead spirit has to entangle with Christ by opening the door. The Way. The Truth. LIFE

Our spirit joins the timeless Universal Wave to connect to Jesus on the Cross. Quantum entanglement and spirits don't use time so our spirit is entangling to Jesus on the Cross to die with Him and to be raised/reborn.

The best explanations that I know of come from Watchman Nee. It's the heart of the gospel - Galatians 2:20. If you want to know more, I suggest that you read "The Normal Christian Life".
