plain and simple, if you ain't going to produce kids in a marriage then what is the point of the marriage? you can do everything else as just a friend so marriage isn't needed.
Friends come and go. A deep level commitment amongst friends is rare. A friend is free to live his/her own life. Time and distance will generally weaken a friendship.

it is a pointless virtue signal.
:confused:Reminds me of the old Tina Turner song, "What's love got to do with it?"

She had an reason for asking. She was not enlightened as we are (or at least aught to be.)

Well here are some thoughts. Yes biologically the point of sex is reproduction and God commanded people to be fruitful and multiply. But God also made a whole lot of creatures that reproduce asexually or have sexual reproduction without any sex (fish, trees, probably more that I just can't remember because high school biology was a long time ago). So I think there must be additional purposes for God's design of sex because he could have setup reproduction in any way he wanted but he chose this way.

And marriage is more than children because it's possible to have children outside of marriage and marriage is no guarantee of children (lots of evidence to support that it creates the best environment for them to grow and develop in). While I'm normally pretty content single; I do remember that one of the times I felt the lonliness and isolation of being single most keenly was when I was getting ready to move back home after several years overseas. And I longed for someone who had gone through that experience with me and would also go through the re-entry experience with me so that they could understand and also so that I would have someone to bounce ideas off of. God did provide a lot of the support I needed, but a spouse to be in it together and figure out the next steps with would have been nice. So there's definitely something to be said for marriage as forming a team to face life together whatever comes till one of you dies (that's the ideal and the story we tell about it, it isn't always lived out but that's what we're aiming for).

I don't want either.
You got me, babe. I'm not going anywhere. Jesus loves you and I love you too. I got no wife, so I don't have to worry about anyone being jealous (except for little Amelia my kitty cat:).)

I just can't believe what I have read... Some of the comments here makes me feel sad... 🙁

I am not married and never been married I am in my 40's and my chance to get pregnant according to science is very low compared to when I was in my 20's... But I still hope to marry someday...

With respect to whoever will tell me I hope you will find that person and will try to act as a matchmaker lol thanks for your effort 😊 I am fine, I don't need help 😅

I am at the point in my life where having a spouse is not so strong anymore the excitement is still there but... I don't know how to describe it lol I am content already I guess ... I am content to the point where decorating my house excites me more than meeting someone in the future 😄 but I am not a marriage hater just want to clarify this...

Old Couples make feel hopeful of till death do us part marriage 😊 whenever I see them they make me wonder..they fascinate me...they make me ask how they keep their marriage intact in this imperfect world... Because I know that walking in the same path they are living is not easy It takes a lot of work... a continuous work till death do them part...

Before I forget...I just want to say something about marriage... Marriage is not all about having sex and having children... If you will get married for no other reason than to have sex and have kids that is so wrong... Don't get married please...

Marriage is about love and companionship...having someone who will be with you through the ups and downs of life and If children will come thank God Kids are blessings from Him if not You still got each other.

If you get married to have sex and reproduce then don't get married please you can have it outside your marriage...you can have it for free and you don't even need to go to the pub... That simple but you know... GOD can see you 😊

12 years olds can have children but it seems like if you want to hook up a 12 year old some people are like go for it age dont matter.

Some girls become women at age 9.

as I said, just find your birthday twin and stop messing with people.

Eh... I don't see anywhere in the Bible where it says the whole point of marriage is to have kids.

The Bible DOES say a lot about two people getting married because they love each other, and to be a team. One person alone in the world is just one person, but a couple is a team doing life together. The Bible gets almost effusive about that.

If we just cut to the chase... And there are usually plenty of threads talking about it in singles -- it's a basic fact of life that a lot of people want to have sex. And if they are abiding by conservative Christian principles, the only way to do so is to get married, whether or not they have kids (and we would all be millionaires if we all got a dollar for every time we're given the "It is better to marry than to burn with passion" reference.)

Of course, this also leads to the problem of people marrying too quickly or for the wrong reasons just because they want to have a sexual outlet, but that's a whole 'nother discussion.

There are a lot of single parents out there who don't want more kids, and would not be marrying to produce more children. Yes, they would be raising the children they already have, but they wouldn't be marrying to have any more. Many single parents also have grown, adult children (and/or grandchildren,) and are looking to marry but definitely not to have more kids.

While I understand that many adhere to the principle of "be fruitful and multiply," a Christian friend once pointed out that this command was given two specific times in the Bible -- once after Adam and Eve were joined together at the beginning of humanity, and once after the Flood and destruction of all but 8 people left on the earth.

In other words, these were two very specific conditions under which there was a need to fill and populate the earth.

If someone believes that marriage is only for the creation of children, maybe that's what God has put on their heart for them to do. But I've spent most of my life living around older adult populations, which has made me realize that the search for love and companionship has no age limits or boundaries. When my older relatives' spouses died, they all sought another companion, and it certainly wasn't to have children.

A while back, I met a lovely couple, probably in their late 60's, who had been married for about 2 years and still acted like newlyweds. Both had had major losses in their life, and neither was looking to find someone. The woman had put a vehicle up for sale, he showed up to answer the ad, and thus began the trip that landed them at the altar.

The husband also had an artificial limb. I don't know if it was from illness or military service, etc., but it made me think a lot about how this couple, with two lifetimes of experience, probably knew a lot more about accepting someone as they are and sticking with each other "for better and for worse" than many of us will ever know.

No institution or relationship on this old Earth stands a chance if God is not in it. On this I'm sure we agree. I, even as old as I am, have very weak faith. Oh, that mine might attain the level of Father Abraham. Glorious day that would be.
Agreed. This world is nothing without God.

I think it depends on the ages but then I don't think it matters so long as there is love. People will always criticize what is not "normal" to them. I know I've had the looks, talks behind my back and what not because of me seeing a older man but in the end you do what you want and it doesn't matter what others think

Ehh... Maybe. Maybe not.

I have learned that if everybody says something is a bad idea, it is worth at least investigating why they believe this. There might be a really good reason to avoid it.

Or it might just be something everybody objects to because nobody does it and human nature resists change.

Ignoring what everybody says and following what everybody says are both things that should not be done automatically.

Yes. We shall stand before God and God alone. Nothing we do will please everyone. There is such liberty in following God's leading and letting the crumbs and chips fall where they may.
