It's been a problem for decades, but it is not always the preacher's fault. I "made a decision" at a Billy Graham meeting in 1967. Someone I knew went out at the same time. He got born again. I knew it. I could see the change and it freaked me out. Obviously I did not. It was 5 years before I was born again in reality. The effectiveness of preaching depends on the hearer as well as the word itself. (Parable of the sower).
Yes, there is a cheap, phony and watered down imitation gospel. It's given us the insipid make-believers that fill so-called churches. Statistically, around 4% of church goers in Australia are born again. Billy Graham was quoted as saying that he would be delighted if 4% of so-called conversions were for real.
The why the church in China, Iraq, North Korea and similar countries is much stronger than the Western world. It costs to be a believer in those places. It's all too easy in the Western world.
