It's been a problem for decades, but it is not always the preacher's fault. I "made a decision" at a Billy Graham meeting in 1967. Someone I knew went out at the same time. He got born again. I knew it. I could see the change and it freaked me out. Obviously I did not. It was 5 years before I was born again in reality. The effectiveness of preaching depends on the hearer as well as the word itself. (Parable of the sower).

Yes, there is a cheap, phony and watered down imitation gospel. It's given us the insipid make-believers that fill so-called churches. Statistically, around 4% of church goers in Australia are born again. Billy Graham was quoted as saying that he would be delighted if 4% of so-called conversions were for real.

The why the church in China, Iraq, North Korea and similar countries is much stronger than the Western world. It costs to be a believer in those places. It's all too easy in the Western world.

the coming persecution in America may produce the same results since we failed to appreciate the man God raised up and now have the adversaries spawn.

I so agree with you, Gideon. I'm very concerned for the church, and I wouldn't be surprised if only 4% of professing Christians are saved and maybe even less. Gotta pray a lot for those who believe they're saved but aren't.
