You were called on your ignorance and you said

"The fact is the bible doesn't ' teach ' ,but rather it SAYS".

Now you realize how much and you're trying to flip the script. LOL.
No , and this seems to happen quite often. You get the wrong end of the stick, and its quite difficult to point this out to you , and you just keep running with it ,regardless of what I say to correct the misunderstanding, Its quite remarkable.

No, not at all, you keep reinforcing my perception of you each time you speak to others here. I have yet to see you apologize for your error in the comments. Please take this time to do so and I will stand corrected.

I will wait.

There has been no error in my comments . Of course I don't mean by that, I'm infallible. But I don't recall an error in the comments as you say ??

Your opening comment :

"We hear this all the time " The bible teaches , " , in Such and such the bible teaches the doctrine of such and such ..."
The fact is the bible doesn't ' teach ' ,but rather it SAYS .
So why do people say this phrase?

For me its a red flag and often its when someone is teaching a doctrine from outside the scriptures and trying to impose it onto the text. Most of the time its unintentionally and its just the way we been taught."

This opinon is wrong.

then you said :

"Could you give an example where the bible' teaches ' rather than simply saying how things are?"

To each of thoses verse i would state " in Psa 119:100 it says ......"
Which would be different than if I said Psa 119:100 teaches ...."
Is teaching about words on paper? Does it edify? If you understand the words on the paper, the words on the paper have taught you. If you don't understand, I suppose you can just say, "it says ..."

Psalm 119:102 I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.

Could you give an example where the bible' teaches ' rather than simply saying how things are?" ( to expound further ) What happened, What was said to a person, what the response was to a question , what was instructed to someone , and such .?

Does anyone realize that Christ hand picked 12 people for only one reason? To make them teachers. He trained them for 3 years then he founded a Church for them to lead so they could teach others, and on and on. The Bible didn’t come till later. The Bible was never meant to be self-sufficient unto itself. Otherwise Jesus would of left the Bible before he ascended into Heaven instead of a Church.

Next time someone says " such and such passage , teaches the doctrine of such and such " ,check if its at the cost of what the verses actually say .
I usually do. That's why my posts are replete with statements such as, "That's not what it says...."

I get what you're saying, and I agree with you. I just don't know if you're going to convince anyone. Judging by the responses so far, either people don't understand what you're saying, or don't want to because they think you're attacking the doctrine of Scripture, which you aren't.

Nice try ,but you failed. Thats still the bible SAYING what Jesus TAUGHT ..I don't think you understand the post . As usual .
from your perspective

what a bizarre op

and you can quote me

the word of God is ALIVE. perhaps you have not experienced that for some reason?

//That was Jesus teaching therefore it is correct to say The Bible teaches because we have Jesus who is teaching.// At best we can say " Jesus taught the diciples such and such " When you say " the bible teaches " this is completely different .
you must have failed English class

seriously :cautious:

The majority of Christians on Earth agree with what you’re saying.
I think it ridiculous to assume people don't understand the op and the creator of said op

I don't believe the problem is a misunderstanding. seems more like understanding all too well IMO

I'm not selecting you here...just answering generally to those who are saying what you say.

Perhaps you're hung up with semantics or don't want to acknowledge that the scriptures are the living words of Jesus that teach us truth. If they aren't meant for teaching anything, one wonders what they are for then.

Beware of teachers and pastors. God teaches us individually, one on one. He does not use another to do it.
except that is not actually so

for one thing, God does give some the GIFT of teaching. some falsely claim to have that gift, but some actually do have that gift, given by God at His discretion, by His Spirit

The only Christians that would agree with the statement “The Bible teaches...” are people that adhere to a post reformation Christian doctrine. The others (Catholics and Eastern Orthodox) believe the Church is the teaching office Christ established.
