"So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them".
Genesis 1:27

What exactly does it mean when we are told that God created us in His image?

Obviously, it cannot mean that he created us to look like Him.
So in what sense are we like God?

Dr. Michael Heiser, a biblical scholar, views this passage as saying that being made in God's image is something we do; we are "imagers" of God. He has some good material available on the subject on his "The Naked Bible Podcast" and other videos available on YouTube.

Do you truly not have any opinion about this that you can share? Why does one jump through all the hoops required to become a Member here on CC, and then Author Threads "lets discuss," and NOT offer ANY opening thoughts/beliefs to BEGIN the discussion?

Is not our Maker perfect?
Does He not declare that we will be perfect for He is Perfect?

Obviously, no one in the flesh is perfect, excluding our Savior Wh happens to be God.

Yett He created each of us in His own imaged!

When we turn to Jesus, Yeshua, it is our kFather Who begins the work in us, that is perfecting us to be in His image.
This work will not be completed until His chosen kDay. You and DI do not perfect ourselves, we kyeild to His work within.

This means that when He says we will be perfect, for He is perfect, it is on -going until the resurrection.. Praise God; He is worthy not we. Amen

If God made us in His physical image, He must then look like both a man and a woman? I doubt it.

I take this to mean that from His very imagination . . . He created us. From His imagination, He created us to be exactly as He wanted us to be.

God is Love and life, God created us in His image, means we should be love and life.

Except that only the Remnant possesses this Holy Love. Are the vast majority, then, who are evil, also made in His image?

I don't want to answer such meaningless questions, but out of politeness, I don't think God sees us this way, he still created mankind in his own image by Jesus Christ.

That's what it means in the Hebrew. We are humanoid in form which means head, arms, legs etc. That's the likeness and image of God.

Gen_1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

From an unused root meaning to shade; a phantom, that is, (figuratively) illusion, resemblance; hence a representative figure, especially an idol: - image, vain shew.

The underlined is not particularly important since that is the definition of this word's root word but the rest of the text is this words actual definition. Here we see that essentially the "figure" of something is is a physical representation of the original. It would be akin to a boy being extra tall like his father and maybe grandfather. That boy would be the "figure" of his male relative in a physical sense. Angels have the basic head, two arms and legs and torso...the basic "human" type design. God the Father has been seen and described in the scriptures and has the same physical design. It is then clear he used his own form, whether a permanent or a temporary form, as a pattern for much of his creations ie: Angels and Mankind.

demu^th
dem-ooth'
From H1819; resemblance; concretely model, shape; adverbially like: - fashion, like (-ness, as), manner, similitude.

And this word has the same basic meaning as well.

Judas Iscariot is the image of God? I can look at Judas and see God? That's amazing.

I have pondered this for years. There are a handful of plausible answers, but the most likely, I think, is that mankind is triune as God is. We are body, soul, and spirit. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

P.S. I do not wish to discuss my implication that animals are not triune. I am very confident that they are twofold rather than threefold (and have many supporting scriptures). But my desire is to encourage and maybe give insight to this thread, rather than starting another tangent.

When we come to Jesus, Yeshua, only then does our Maker begin His work in us: that is to say, begins our perection. Taking in account of all of the Word, all will be made to look the image of Jesus, Yeshua.

So, again, taking all into account we already know from the Messiah, Himself, come the resurrection there is no male nor female. I believe this, and I have a fairly good understanding of all the above, first by faith, and second by over half a century of slo revelation.

However i SHOULD HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THIS FROM THE ENTERING OF THE hOLY sPIRIT, AND actually I believe I was .

People who cannot see beyond the color of sking, the condition of others, nationality etc, have no inclination whatsoever as to what they will have come the Kingdom nor what they will be. When we know about a subject in the Word, yet do notunderstand it, it is best we be like Mary, keep it to ourselves, believe it because it is from our Father, and awarit further understanigin. It will come, perhaps not now but it will come.

Nice. That is absolutely plausible.

And so if we are created in His image, why then, should we "be more like Jesus?" If we were made in His image as you say, we would already be like Jesus.

If you are a father, your children are sometimes disobedient. Isn't it ideological education?
Jesus Christ is the image of God. we should be more like Jesus. God created us in His image.
God created us Spiritual body and mind by Jesus and Holy Spirit.
God wanted to all of us in His image.
No matter who he is,that is the grace of God.
