I was led to the Lord by a baby sprinkler. I was born again but I knew nothing about baptism. I'd been sprinkled as an infant, but it meant nothing to me. For sure I remember nothing about the event!

I ended up attending a Baptist church and I was introduced to believer's baptism. I got baptised because it seemed the correct thing to do. I did not understand what it was about. I felt nothing except cold and wet. But I could tick it off the to do list.

I very much appreciate the teachings of Watchman Nee. His explanation, which was as deep and comprehensive as everything else he taught, made a lot of sense to me. I won't cover all that he said about the subject. I doubt anyone would read it if I did. There is one aspect I would like to cover that not too many seem to understand.

One of the great truths of salvation is that we are crucified with Christ. This is not preached so much these days. What it means is that the old nature we inherit from Adam is included in the death of Christ. The part of man that died when Adam sinned is the spirit. The only way to escape this life is to die. So all will die eventually, but then the second death awaits those who reject Christ in this life.

If we will accept the cross, then God will raise us up again to new life. Galatians 2:20 has been called the gospel in a nutshell. It's one of the most memorised but least understood bible verses. Ok, so we die with Christ. What do you do with a dead person? You bury them. 1 Peter 3:20-22 likens baptism to Noah's flood. The whole world perished apart from those in the ark.

Those Christians who suffer constant accusations of failure, of not being worthy, of sinning and not being Christlike should agree. Yes, I am a sinner. But let's not stop there. We are dead and buried, so we can say, rightly, that the accusations are against a dead person. Who bothers to charge a dead man or put them in prison? No, they are buried and can never trouble anyone again, no matter how wicked they were.

If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. The old is passed away. When we see this truth, we realise that the Christian life is simply depending on Christ to live out His life in and through us. Baptism helps us to cement this truth. It testifies to Satan that you mean business with God. It declares to the world that you are no longer the same person.

we should be baptized because we are told to once we believe. Is the servant greater than HIS master?

I too have been enlightened by Watchman Nee (and rebuked for saying so). With our baptism we enter into The Messiah, we were crucified in him and we rose with him, free of our sin nature but still waiting our new bodies.

I was also sprinkled. I came to the Lord and read about repenting and being baptized. Surly I didn't believe and repent before being sprinkled...it sparked a whole lot of reading and searching for truth ...Praise God 💜

To be precise, there are several baptisms mentioned in scripture:
1. Baptism in water
2. Baptism in fire
3. Baptism in the Holy Spirit
4. Baptism by the Holy Spirit

The "one baptism" mentioned in Ephesians 4 is the baptism by the Holy Spirit. This baptism, completed by the Holy Spirit, certifies our connection to and agency in the Body of Christ. For all believers, this is the baptism that is assured.

If we are only dealing with baptism in water, the answer is "to be buried with Christ". (Romans 6:4) This is an undertaking that includes us ad item into Christ's burial and serves, as a testament to all witnesses (including the demons who have a right to pursue us because of sin), that our old person is dead and buried.

I grew up in a church that sprinkled infants. As a teenager I was presented with the true gospel and I repented then and there and became a disciple of Christ. When I told my family I wanted to be immersed they all thought I was crazy but I did it anyway and I'm glad I did.

Acts 22:16 says: "And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name."

And 1 Peter 3:21: "Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ."

Gideon, I agree when you say baptism helps us cement the truth that old things have passed away. We aren't justified through baptism; our sins aren't literally washed away through baptism, but it's a symbolic cleansing which washes away the old and leaves us with a clean conscience. It's more for our own benefit than God's.

Baptism is not equated in order to be saved, it is after you are saved. Believers baptism is the right thing to do as saved. It signifies the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

Baptism: baptizo: to immerse.

Baptism in water actually does save us, but not the salvation to get to heaven. It saves us from a conscience sullied by the world and it ends the right of our enemies to legally condemn us. (To note: there are several types of salvation in scripture).

Baptism is about burial. You bury what is dead. Death occurred through repentance from acts that lead to death. The reason you bring the person out of the water is because it would be a crime not to. Resurrection, then, is accomplished by the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead. This is the resurrection to a new life in Christ.

Now, why must we die? Because as long as we are found in Adam we are found within the sinful man. And, as long as we are found in Adam we cannot be adopted as sons of God. The right to include us in Adam’s lineage remains as long as we are alive. Upon death, however, the lineage to Adam is broken. We can then be adopted by Our Father, the Living God.

When you pass through the baptism of water, you are declaring to the heavenlies that you have availed yourself of the redemption that has been made possible through the blood of the Lamb and you enlist the services of Jesus Christ on your behalf, as your advocate. That being so, even if you were guilty, the creature who lived and was guilty, no longer lives. Therefore, the one who is alive is a new creation and cannot be condemned.

For reference:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.”

“Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.”

I think its good to understand baptism and what it means and also to do it correctly (repent FIRST) the. your christian life will be much richer for it, in understanding what Jesus has done for you.

I think there may be exceptions to this but in general babies dont really understand repenting or have much awareness of what Jesus has done for them...their brains are still developing and growing...and many babies cant talk they can only cry and make goo goo noises.

Jesus was baptised at around age 30. I think a lot of people overlook this fact. He had lived quite a number of years before starting his ministry.

This doesnt meant to say he wasnt faithful when he was young. and growing up. But a baptism generally is the start of your new life ministering to others and spreading the gospel.

Jesus was born when the Mosaic Law was in effect. John was the son of Zachariah, a Jewish high priest from the tribe of Levi. John is the son of a high priest. Also, he had taken the vow of a Nazarite. This was another level of devotion characterized by cleanliness. John, therefore, met the requirements of an exceptional high priest under the Law.

We know the story: Jesus approaches John to be baptized. John’s response is “I need to be baptized by you!” Jesus insists that John baptize him to “fulfill all righteousness”. The fulfillment of righteousness is this: under the law, all sacrifices must be washed. Jesus, leading up to his resurrection, was washed, then, by a super priest from the order of Levi. This is why He insisted that John baptize Him.

Precious friend, thanks for your info. Q: How does something NOT "Required"
by God, Today, "
help cement Truth"? My Scriptural findings; in Summary:

Prophecy/Law for ISRAEL:
►►► The Twelve Were Sent to {water} baptize! ◄◄◄

The TWO Main (of 12) baptismS =

A) water, For remission of sins/induction into Israeli "priesthood!":
(Matthew_3:5-6; Mark_1:4; Luke_3:3; John_1:31; Luke_7:29-30; Acts_10:37)
(Matthew_28:19; Mark_16:16; Acts_2:38, 22:16; Ezekiel_36:25)
+
B) WITH The Holy Spirit, Poured Out By CHRIST, for power, signs And wonders!
(Isaiah_44:3; Matthew_3:11; Mark_1:8, 16:17-18;
Luke_24:49; Acts_2:17-18, 38, 8:15-17, 11:16)
Prophecy/Law

Rightly Divided (2_Timothy_2:15 KJB!) From Things That Differ!:

Mystery/GRACE! =

Baptism: baptizo: to immerse.
Precious friend:
(1) IF God Did "Require" water Today, Which HE Does NOT { see #13 },
how could "immersion" in it be a beautiful testimony "to the world" {via internet?}, when it is only done in a local congregation?

(2) Furthermore problem with this beautiful testimony: How is immersing young/
middle-aged women Any Different than the wet t-shirt contests at UNgodly
liquor establishments? I thought God Said: "...Be NOT conformed to this world!..."
(Romans 12:1-2 KJB!)

(3) FurtherMost problemS, IF "yes, water IS for today, how are Confused babes
In CHRIST,
going to confront the following Confusion, and Find The Truth?:

IF "yes," THEN:
WHICH of these is correct {finding the RIGHT religion/denomination to JOIN?}:

1) believe AND be baptized
{i.e. immersion to contact their Christ's blood}?

(2) immersion with a symbolic interpretation?

(3) immersion ONCE in the "name of Jesus?

(4) immersion THRICE in the "name of the Triune Godhead?

(5) immersion {whether once or thrice} for "membership" in
their traditional assembly?

(6) sprinkling water on babies inducting them into religion
washing away their original sin?

(7) sprinkling water on babies inducting them into some covenant?

(8) sprinkling water on babies inducting them into their parent's custody
that they promise to raise them right? {into Mass Confusion?}

(9) sprinkling water on babies, admitting that their ritual is
UNscriptural, but "we do it anyway, because it is OUR tradition!"?

(10) pouring water onto babies or adults for Whatever
traditional reason religion "can come up with"?

Or, do we need to "start all over"? God's Simple Will! and THEN: #13?

Please be Richly Encouraged, enlightened, exhorted, and edified!

Precious friend, my intent was directed to challenge ALL who say, "yes" water IS
for The Body Of CHRIST, Today, Under GRACE! To get them to prayerfully And
Carefully Consider:

(1) the Confusion it has Caused for {Almost} 2000 years!

(2) That God Absolutely VANQUISHES this Satanic Confusion, By Answering,
From The Scriptures "NO" water IS NOT Required By HIM, Today, Under HIS
"Dispensation Of PURE GRACE!" =
NO "religious rituals" needed!!

Total Depravity - As a result of Adam’s fall, the entire human race is affected; all humanity is dead in trespasses and sins. Man is unable to save himself (Genesis 6:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:10-18).

Unconditional Election - Because man is dead in sin, he is unable to initiate a response to God; therefore, in eternity past God elected certain people to salvation. Election and predestination are unconditional; they are not based on man’s response (Romans 8:29-30;9:11; Ephesians 1:4-6, 11-12) because man is unable to respond, nor does he want to.

Limited Atonement - Because God determined that certain ones should be saved as a result of God’s unconditional election, He determined that Christ should die for the elect alone. All whom God has elected and for whom Christ died will be saved (Matthew 1:21; John 10:11; 17:9; Acts 20:28; Romans 8:32; Ephesians 5:25).

Irresistible Grace - Those whom God elected He draws to Himself through irresistible grace. God makes man willing to come to Him. When God calls, man responds (John 6:37, 44; 10:16).

Perseverance of the Saints - The precise ones God has elected and drawn to Himself through the Holy Spirit will persevere in faith. None whom God has elected will be lost; they are eternally secure (John 10:27-29; Romans 8:29-30; Ephesians 1:3-14).
