hmm ok

I know a lot about depression as suffered for many years, but not anxiety.
Thank God He set me free though.

You have to fight it not just survive it is what I learned, You have to really want to be well and reach out to the one who can heal. Break whatever curse has been placed on you and ask for the blessing.

as for the world and all its problems, its not on you alone to solve. So dont place the huge burden on yourself. You just do the things God wants YOU to do each day.

I agree with your estimation and fully concur with your last sentence.

My name is Jerry and I am an addict. Nicotine is my drug of choice. Lifelong smoker, 1 pack+ day habit. Quit smoking on Valentine's Day of this year. Slipped up a few times. Last smoke was the last day of March. I was on Nicorette Lozenges 4mg x 8 -10 daily for couple months. As those are a drug too I let them go also.

Stopped drinking alcohol in the summer of 1992. My older brother was an alcoholic and still is. I never really had a drinking problem although I've been wasted a few times. Doing Pina Colada's one morning in Orlando, Florida at this same brother's house. Woke up next day in the backyard. Really, I chose to abstain from alcohol to set a good example for my brother. Also to avoid DUI's. I still love alcohol but I chose not to drink, today.

Never did pot or any other illicit drugs. No desire to. Just said no.

I gave up smoking for the love of my wife who has faithfully prayed each day for me to stop. My family has prayed for this too. It is probably the hardest thing I have ever done. Certainly one of the most painful things. Now my wife prays for the cravings to leave me.

I am uncomfortable around people that drink, smoke pot, or other drug related things. The thing is, I'm a drug addict too and still think about scoring a pack of L & M's and firing one up. Now, I'm thinking that this ain't right. Why not just shoot up some smack, snort a line of coke or smoke a bowl of crack. Same thing really.

Last year at work there was this young guy who would make it a point to stop by and talk. Guy was seriously depressed. He asked me if I wanted to smoke big dobbie with him after work. Of course, I declined but as a fellow addict I got where he was coming from.

I still love to smoke but I chose not to.

The pain is coming.

Love you brother...
We fight the good fight daily , one step at a time...

When Jesus broke the chains of alcohol off me , I still drank but the episodes became less and less...

I used to struggle with the temptation while standing in the supermarket right next to the bottles of beeer , sometimes I would pop two small bottles , but that would lead me back to buy a few more...

I understand your craving , but Jesus said not to worry about tomorrow , today your heavenly Father will take care of you as He does every day...

God bless you brother...

well

I cant relate to the smoking thing
But I used to be an involuntary sugar addict

and I did have cravings, I used to be addicted to Ribena.
But now I cant stand the stuff it is so sickly sweet and then I think about it hurts my teeth, as does any super sweet sugary drink or confection

So God must have done something there (plus He didnt want me to be going crazy hypo all the time)

the pain it was trying to relieve though..was the fear...I just gave it to God

One scripture that is helpful 2 Timothy 1:7

God has not given us a spirit of fear...but a spirit of power, of love and of a sound mind.

That is very much an appropriate scripture for battling addictions.

I haven't been posting as frequently as I used to because for the last 3 weeks, I have been experiencing pain in my right leg. Fortunateliy, at work, moving around dissipates a lot of the pain. I am sort of semi-retired but still work 4 days a week. Hopefully, in a year or two I won't have to work anymore. And, hopefully, the pain in my leg goes away. I might be checking myself into the nearest VA hospital soon to get it evaluated and, hopefully, effectively treated. Pain, along with work, is wearing me out.

I believe that my pain in my right leg is caused by a serious flare-up of inflammation. For the past month I have been treating myself by daily consumption of POM pomegranate juice and Turmeric Curcumin complex capsules. For the past week there has been no pain in my right leg, so it looks that this has been highly effective. I plan on continuing this daily regimen for at least another month. The pain in my lower back has greatly subsided also.

apply lots of grace

This is what happened in my situation, my pain was not really physical but emotional or mental distress

though massage and essential oil can help. I see a good osteopath for any physical pain though I have t seen him in years now because I have learned to look after my body and be gentle with it. Its knowing your limits.

It's the 'knowing my limits' that I seem to not have a handle on. Emotional and mental distress can certainly lead to physical distress. I might have to study about essential oils. Absolutely, lots of grace of God. Osteopath MD's consider the body as a whole when diagnosing and prescribing treatment rather than just reacting to a particular symptom. The distress of the symptoms may be alleviated but the root cause will remain.

well the HOLY spirit is concerned with our body which is the spirits temple to keep it well and holy

so holistic health is the way to go

I had tried everything and anything in my journey to wellness but I have to say of all the treatments osteopathy was the one that worked for physical pain when I had symptoms. Someone has to touch you to get to the cause, and my osteo had the gentlest touch

essential oils are just the balm that eases distress

it does make me sometimes wonder if nurses were rough with me when I was a baby
or my mother but shed never admit it.
I dont remember must have blacked out the trauma

I do remmeber my dad being angry with me when I accidentally broke something of his. So angry that he tried to break me. its weird that I can recall that something happened even when Im not sure what specifically.

Parents do get angry with their children its sort of the norm for them to yell at their kids, we just accepted thats just what parents did, gave us hidings etc when we were naughty or perceived to be naughty.

Islander Parents would often hit children with jandals, but my mum would use this bamboo cane that stung when I was a toddler. If she used a fly swat it would have been better but she would have whacked so hard and broken the fly swat.

I think other parents used belts or wooden spoons. It was just a given that everyones parents beat you up. But only your own parents could do it. Not anyone else.

It sounds like you hit a bit of a rough childhood due to the physical, abusive punishment. I will surmise and say that perhaps you were subject to verbal abuse as well. Your post sadden me.

sorry I dont mean to make it about me
I posted because of the pain

you may think its happening just to you at the time but ALL children get hurt. Though we make it to adulthood those wounds do damage us especially if they go unhealed. Most people simply get told to toughen up, its the school of hard knocks. I think its hard for a child to accept at the hands of the one who feeds them but many adults say this is the real world. They are stressed, and the ones they take it out on are their own children.

if you were blessed to NEVER have been hurt in your childhood tell me where you lived and about your amazing childhood cos I would have been like ADOPT me!

I now have Jesus, so He took my pain and sorrow thankfully! Dont feel sorry for me.

I think this kind of explains the popularity of Road Dahl or David Walliams books where adults/grown come to nasty ends for being mean to children and inflicting pain on them. Pain hurts!

the thing is all children simply want to be loved by their own parents. But not all children are.

schools also used to have corporal punishment and children if they werent being abused at home would get punished at school, though it was mostly boys that got caned or strapped. They called it 'six of the best' . Girls would get detentions and had to write lines.

thankfully thats not longer the case by the time I had gone to school thye had dropped this. and now laws have been passed against smacking children but many parents still have no idea how to raise children and resort to violence. Its not uncommon for children to get restraining orders against their own parents now...

I am a graduate of the School of Hard Knocks.

I had my fair share of discipline in my childhood but nothing as extreme as you endured and most of it deserved.. Basically, my childhood is filled with happy memories.

I am in fact are sadden by what you have went through but also sad for all of the children now living in an abusive dysfunctional environment. Some of those kids will be scarred for life.

I must say however that you carry your scars well and have developed into a decent, well-balanced, caring adult with empathic qualities. Most impressed.
