Hello:
I'm a Biblical Academic and dislike the buzzwords so prevalent in religious study. I believe in God and Jesus the Christ but am unsure if we actually know who the Holy Spirit is. I suppose I'm loosely a non-Trinitarian but please don't get too excited about that. I came here to study, not to be harrassed by rigid thinkers. I'm 74 and just started again to read the Bible (KJV) cover to cover and have done that before a few times. I'm very interested in pre-Judaistic Archeology. I sometimes wonder if Jesus the Christ intended to start a new church and if he is satisfied with what we have today. I try to be charitable to others though am pretty fixed though not argumentative in my own beliefs. I've studied Islam from an academic perspective and do not see a need to treat Muslims badly, though I think they are a bit confused on Jesus, ISA (Peace be upon him) to them.

Years ago, my ideas on Christianity were very rigid but the closer I get to meeting my Creator, that seems uncalled for.

Hi Katia, and welcome to CC. I suspect that the expression of your views will result in some fairly stiff resistance at times, but it sounds like you know how to parry the criticism. I look forward to observing. :)

I hope not to offend the denominational folk too much. Still, it is clear that those who speak the truth are often treated badly.

Thank you. With Covid, it is difficult to have fellowship. A pastor once told me that less than 10% of those who attend church read the Bible, so they depend on what is said from the pulpit as their knowledge base. These days it seems the only way to go to church is on TV and that is scary to me.

Welcome to CC Katia, you may find that there are more than a few here who agree and support you. Many of us have wondered about the Messiah's intentions and the modern church. I have been struggling with that issue myself. It is difficult to deny the accomplishments of the historical church; while also acknowledging its shortcomings, both historical and modern.

My own studies have been leading me more and more back to the beginning. (And that does include some interest in ancient archeology).

I look forward to hearing more from you.

Thank you both. I want to avoid too much criticism of present day denominations. It would be like the pot calling the kettle black. Lately, I have been thinking about the OT as if it is true, and it is making me wonder who it was that Abram encountered. Who did Enoch encounter and did he do other things besides interacting with Enoch?

I just bought a book, "The Books of Enoch", just to see what they say. It was once part of the Biblical texts and was removed. Who and why did that happen?

Well on some areas of this site truth is irrelevant. Going to the Bible Forums you can expect almost entirely pharisees. Rigid. Self righteous braggarts. Quick to condemn and attack anyone who disagrees with them. So good luck.

It was not removed but added, as it is considered apocryphal (written during a time when there were no prophets), and was not written by Enoch (it has multiple authors and is considered pseudepigraphal). The Biblical book of Jude quotes from the Book of Enoch in verses 14-15, but this does not mean the Book of Enoch should be in the Bible. Jude quoting from the book of Enoch does not indicate the entire Book of Enoch is inspired, or even true. Some of what the Apocryphal books say is true and correct, but at the same time, much of it is false and historically inaccurate, so viewing such books as interesting but fallible historical documents, not as the inspired, authoritative Word of God, may be the best way to go.

Not going into great detail. I was devout for over 30 years. When I had a breakdown, they were quick to condemn. That's been 16 years and many of them have since apologized. It was very hard for me to forgive that, but if we are of Jesus the Christ, we must.

At least they came around eventually. That's not so common. But don't expect that here.

I'm sorry if I have hurt you in the past. I want you to know that Jesus loves you. He wants you to experience the joy of the Lord. He wants you to have peace about your spiritual status. I am getting old. As much as possible, I want to make peace with everyone. God bless you and yours.

Nice to meet you Katia and so glad the Lord led you to join CC:) One way I explain the Trinity is that God, the Father is the heart....Jesus is the face and the Holy Spirit is the thought/voice. We see the Trinity right at the beginning. The Creator SAID(by His Spirit) let there by light. Then we are told the 'Word' was made flesh. It's very exciting and so perfect. God bless you and hope you make many new friends!
