So I was baptized last year, in the video I have of that day my pastor said I baptize you in the name of the father son and Holy Spirit. Recently I came across a YouTube pastor that it’s wrong to say the trinity because God is one which I agree. He found scripture where the apostles baptized in the name of Jesus which I believe is Gods name. So should I be re baptized? Should I tell my pastor I think he’s wrong? I’m seriously questioning everything because why didn’t my pastor know to say Jesus name it makes sense to me to say his name, can I be re baptized!?

If you read Isaiah 9:6 perhaps you will understand that either manner of baptisim is just fine. Believe Isaiah teaching this even is you do not understand. I do not understand it, but I believe it. God is One, yet Isaiah teaches the truth from God.

This mysstery is yet to be given to us to know, so believe by faith not by the insufficient reasoning of men.

It may help to understand exactly what is meant by the term "εἰς τὸ ὄνομα" - "into the name of." In the classical style of the first century language, the phrase "εἰς τὸ ὄνομα" - "into the name of" was often used as a legal term. This expression is found among ancient legal documents that recorded the transfer of property. If one purchased a section of land or a dwelling for example, a title transfer would be drawn up to show that this property was now εἰς τὸ ὄνομα - in the name of -the new owner. When Jesus commanded his disciples to preach the gospel to every creature and "baptize them into the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit," what he is commanding them to do is to baptize them into the possession of God. Christians are the objects of a property transfer - "out of the kingdom of darkness and into his marvelous light." Baptism then is a property transfer. This same language is used in Acts 2:38 Peter commanded those present to be baptized ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι - into the name of - thus into the possession of Jesus Christ. This was for a two-fold purpose
1. For the removal of sin - Spiritual circumcision, Colossians 2:9-13.
2. To receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. He is the seal of the transfer of property, Ephesians 4:30, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. He is the seal of ownership to show that we have been bought with a price.

Oneness Pentecostals (for example) maintain that baptism must be administered using the formula "in Jesus name" only and not the formula "in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit" as is found in Matthew 28:19. They reject the Trinitarian formula because they reject the Trinity. The phrase, "in the name of the Lord," is not a reference to a specific baptismal formula but a reference to authority. So to baptize in Jesus’ name is to baptize in the authority of Jesus. To baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” is to baptize in the authority of Jesus.

both are appropriate for baptism. the problem with it is those of the UPC and those of Oneness will not agree they require as they see it in scripture you must be baptized in Jesus' name Only to be saved and speak in tongues.

As a pentacostel minister, I can tell you that is an error. Tongues don't save you nor does Baptism in water. It is Salvation by Grace through Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by HIS redemptive work on the Cross for all. If you were baptized after you confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and surrender to HIM then baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit or in the name of Jesus your salvation and baptism is biblical and valid

I AM is sons of God awaken from being just sons of man. Paul knew it was all allegory and Imagination was God in man not classic theology Saul and all sons of man are blind about thinking like sons of God in them, Phil 2:5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

either way honestly if your baptized in Jesus name your baptized in Gods name , of your baptized in the name of the father son and Holy Ghost your baptized into Gods name

as long as you believe the gospel and get baptized I don’t think it’s going to be held against you whether the one who baptized you said in Jesus name or in the name of the father son and Holy Ghost

“For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

continue in belief of the gospel and pursuit of Christ and it won’t make a difference that’s just my own thought

Why would you after last year being baptised recently come across a YouTube video that states you must be baptised in the name of Jesus?

No you do not need to be ready baptised because you have been saved by grace through faith

Good post CS1 and I totally agree.
I was once told because I did not speak in tongues I was not saved even though I was baptised.

There is another thread going on "Saved by water"

The person who started the post believes we are saved by "Jesus only baptism"

Refuses to answer questions if they believe in trinity and whether speaking in tongues save us.

As you can see there are differing views which is why there is a command to "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling"... Also it is your eternal existence that you're wanting to secure, so you have a vested interest in getting it right. AKA the stakes are high.

Ask God to make it KNOWN to you what is correct. If you're wanting to serve God, let him start teaching you now. take it to prayer and believe him to answer. He still speaks, works miracles, raises people from the dead... if not, there is no resurrection and it wouldn't matter anyway. (spoiler alert: it matters)

I'll point out a few things though,
1. Yes, it's likely you need to be re-baptized, correctly this time. But don't rush out and do it wrong again. Is that scriptural? Yes. see it in action in Acts 19:1-6. Notice they also needed to receive the Holy Ghost which didn't come immediately upon belief or even at the moment they were baptized. The didn't receive it until verse 6.

2. If people knew what the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost is, they wouldn't use that phrase when baptizing. You might not understand that now, but I'm sure you can grasp that the NAME of the SON is JESUS, not SON. And you can see that in practice, Paul (Acts 19:1-6) and Peter (Acts 2:38,39) baptized with the name "Jesus", not the phrase "Father, Son & Holy Ghost"

The reason your pastor may not see it is because Jesus knew what he was talking about when he said "If the blind lead the blind, both fall into the ditch". If you don't want to be led by a blind leader, you're going to need to seek and rely on the ONE leader that is never blind, and that is God himself. Jesus also said that if a person won't go find out the truth from God himself, he won't be able to make it all the way to Jesus (parahprased).

John 6:44-45 KJV
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. [45] It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

You need to seek God until he answers you. And yes, he will answer you if you don't give up. (Don't give up)
Luke 18:1-8 KJV
And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; [2] Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: [3] And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. [4] And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; [5] Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. [6] And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. [7] And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? [8] I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Sorry so long of a reply. I wanted you to be able to read the verses.

Acts 19:1-6 KJV
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, [2] He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. [3] And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. [4] Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. [5] When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. [6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Acts 2:38-39 KJV
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. [39] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

It DOES matter which name is used:

Acts 4:10,12 KJV
"Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. ... [12] Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

I don't have a good answer. The Lord said to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. But in Acts they always baptized into the Lord Jesus. I think either one is okay.

the context of "the name " in Acts 4:10, 12 is 1. that is was not just anyone named Jesus as there were many then who was named Jesus but to draw attention to the one who was Crucified and from Nazareth and it was this Jesus who has risen from the dead.
2. "IN the name of" is also identifying with the Authority of the one who sent them to do The Lord Jesus Christ King of kings and Lord of lords

We should allunderstand when Jesus says :The Father and I are One." Also "God is One." If you do not understand fully, I do not either, however your faith should be enough that you believe, understanding now or not.

This short study on "baptism in water" deals with the issue...

No argument there. And there is still none other name through which deliverance (salvation) such as what was done to the lame man, can be accomplished. That name is the only one recorded as being used by any of the apostles when it comes to baptism as well. They UNDERSTOOD who it is they had within them, and his name.

People take "the authority to baptize" lightly. Some people see it as a non-essential ritual. 3 things concerning that concept:

1. Q: Since when did Jesus incorporate Non-essential rituals into his doctrine? (A: Never) John 6:63 KJV "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." - Jesus
2: Q: In Acts 2 when Peter was speaking of life-and-death matters of their spiritual Messiah, and was answering a question of spiritual life-and-death importance... At which point in this, his answer, did he switch from speaking of life-and-death importance and begin speaking of non-essential rituals? (A: Never)
Acts 2:37-38 KJV "Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." <-- That wasn't a game of "which piece isn't like the others". It was no game at all. It was an answer of life-and-death importance...Every piece of it.

3: If someone believes that baptism is a non-essential ritual, THEY should NOT be baptizing because they are NOT sent of God to baptize. Why do I say this? Because to say otherwise would be saying that God's calling on their life is non-essential.

Cracks me up, Yeshua, the WORD, had the Father [dwelling withing Him], He was full of the Holy Spirit, it's even written within Him was the Fullness of the Godhead.

So to Baptize one way or either way is Covering what is required.

the power of the name of Jesu means HIS authority Yet people say his name every day and are not saved. Acts 2:38 is Peter saying to those jews repent and accept Jesus as the Savior and by HIS authority ( or name ) we will baptize you all for the remission of sins.

The faith in the Lord Jesus produced an action called belief which they did to be saved than were baptized in water. Yet there is NO RECORD OF the THree thousand speaking in tongues after they were water baptized is there? The 3000 did not speak in tongues.

Now I never said baptism was not an essential ritual so please don't suggest that. We are to believe and be baptized as Jesus said to do and HE was baptized too. In Obedience, I do the same. there are two ordinances of the church water baptism & communion.
none of them save you but are very important. as Roman 6 and 1cor 11 say
