( :unsure: evades my question but then accuses me of evasion...)

You believe in the eternal torment of the immortal soul, right? So according to Genesis Adam died. So I'm asking you, where is Adam now?
I don't know where Adam is. Which is irrelevant. Adam absolutely exists! Again you're totally evasive. God said Adam would die but still be alive. As with Lazarus and the rich man. As in "they will be tormented day and night FOREVER and EVER".

How one looks at this really matters. Well are you looking reading seeing understanding from the natural or supernatural? Sorry most are not experts on in the supernatural we seem to walk hear feel only with this world which is not the real realm. Pffft yes sometimes in the word forever does not mean forever ...other times it does. Yet many times we can not nail down the exact meaning so we? SPECULATE! WOOT! Then we get to say what ever we want. Then we tell each other what GODS word really means and kinda in a worldly way with worldly pictures and videos sometimes make fun of the person that just can't see understand as we do huh ;)

Lets not think because we have a book that ONLY has in it what we need HERE in this world. Don't think we KNOW God. He has always been. There is a place that was already created before this world was. We get no say in this. All that fell have to answer for what they have been doing. Not all of them are doing evil ever moment. No one is burning because they smoked or told a lie or were Catholic or word of Faith or Baptist... blah blah blah.

So there is a place already made that was made out side of time.. what we do not understand. No day no night how long will they be in that? There is no time in heaven. My personal understand.. thats left out huh "this is what I believe and why".

Is it irrelevant though...? Paul says, "In Adam all die." (1 Cor 15:22). Seem pretty relevant that wherever he currently is those in him will be.

"...THOU SHALL SURELY DIE but still be alive...somewhere irrelevant." - The Almighty (Gen 2:82)

So you're saying God was wrong? Adam didn't die the day he sinned? Why do you keep trying to change the subject?

It's from the bible, why is that strange?

Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

A lot of negative things will not exist in the future.

Wiping tears away means no more tears. Tears will not exist.
There shall be no more death. Death will not exist.
There shall be no more sorrow. Sorrow will not exist.
There shall be no more crying. Crying will not exist.
There shall be no more pain. Pain will not exist.

"for the former things are passed away." That means they are gone, gone everywhere, gone forever. If those things existed anywhere then the scripture would be lying.

Revelation 20:12-13 (NKJV)
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God,[/QUOTE]
The dead standing before God alive?
and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
The dead were judged?
13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.
Again the dead judged? Death does not mean "cease to exist"! NEVER!

Revelation 20:10 (NKJV)
10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Amen Jesus!

Lol,this thread isn't to discuss things and I've told you once that I have the right to use my emojis as I see fit to express my thoughts.

This isn't going to matter one little bit to any who believe in annihilation. I've also stated against what you seem to think is so important quantity vs quality.

What is important is to make sure of our standing with God.
Mk.9:43/45 body members cut off if offensive so to enter eternal life rather than UNQUENCHABLE FIRE.
Rev.19:20 thrown ALIVE into lake of fire.
Rev.20:10,14/15 the devil,the beast,the false prophet,death,hell and whosever was not not found written in the book of life were cast into the lake of fire

Rev.20:11/13 Great white throne judgment of God the dead small and great were given up to STAND and BE JUDGED according to their works.

Clearly referring to God's children!

One does not need to speculate about such things as whether or not the soul of man is immortal when Scripture explicitly states that God alone is immortal. Despite this definitive statement in Scripture, there are a multitude claiming otherwise, some of whom claim to take the Bible literally. Of course what they really mean is: they believe the Bible and if you do not agree with their twisted interpretations then you are not saved... while they reject what it specifically says.

See the LISTING of the phrase used in Rev20:10 (used 21x and NEVER meaning a "LIMITED" time-frame) in Post #230 -

https://christianchat.com/threads/what-are-you-thoughts-on-annihilation.201874/post-4677486

the phrase being: "UNTO THE AGES [PLURAL] OF THE AGES [PLURAL]"

(which is also stated after the setting is told of in verse 11)

αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων

"Eon of eons" Strong's 165.

The point still stands that Rev 20:10 can be interpreted as "in perpetuity" without diminishing the eternal context of other uses.

Whether or not it is understood as "eternity" or "in perpetuity" in this case doesn't matter. The passage is still specific to Satan, the beast, and the false prophet. It might be interpreted that this implies everyone entering also shares the same nature of fate, but it isn't necessarily the case.

It's not that your position on this passage isn't internally consistent, it just isn't a necessary interpretation.

In terms of scholarship I rate myself 2.5 to 3 out of 10 (lack of training and WAS too busy).

Thanks for the honesty, and please allow me to be just as honest with you. By your own admission you are unqualified to have a valid position this or most other biblical subjects. It also means you are equally unqualified to decide who is a "scholar" and who is right or wrong on most subjects as well. People like myself have taken courses in Hebrew and Greek, studied the bible every single day for decades and have spent more time studying the bible than we have sleeping at night. I personally have spent more time studying the bible than I have worked jobs. (I worked in IT so I was able to study more than I worked.)

The results of decades of bible study led me to understand that Annihilation is the correct doctrine for most that are cast into the lake of fire. There *might* be an exception regarding the beast, false prophet and the devil but that is based on one single verse with a high likelihood of a figure of speech that does not mean literally forever. There are also two verses that say the devil will be destroyed and no longer exist so those need to be taken in consideration.

The case for eternal torture is weak, and comparable to one grain of sand versus the case for Annihilation which is comparable to all the rest of the grains of sand not only on the Earth but on every planet in the Universe. That is a vast difference between the biblical support for eternal torture versus the biblical support for Annihilation.

the biblical support for eternal torture
the biblical support for Annihilation

I rest my case.

Really. I hear a lot of true Christians agonizing over their lives. Agonizing over the attacks and suffering that come on a daily basis with little to no intercession from God. I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say they can't get a job that lets them feed their family. Of course the 'Christian' response is to quote the scripture about how God feeds the birds, but what does that really mean? Are these Christians supposed to go pluck insects out of the garden to feed their kids? Trust in God to feed us while we starve ... just how far do you think a person will go with that?

Take for example the faithful believer who can't get a job

Yet I've heard several question that very thing in the last couple years

JTB--since this post focuses on Annhilationism I thought you meant if a believer could choose eternal life or death they would choose death.

Elijah, Job and David despaired of life. I believe Solomon did too when he wrote Ecclesiastes--even though he had everything he could ever wish for, he realized the accumulation of things was meaningless.

I've struggled 6 months to find a job--years trying to find a simple gospel centered fellowship in the extremely liberal city where I live. All my closest friends have left the area. One adult son lives in a foreign country --going on seven years, my other son moved to another state last month --one of the reasons I duke it out on these forums--I truly love God's Word--I love apologetics, but I think it makes me feel like I'm doing something. I'm fighting a battle. And for a while it takes my mind off my troubles. So I know. Believe me, I have despaired of life too. I hang on because I know the glory that awaits.

Blessings,

Laura

OK boys and girls (who happen to be annihilationists)....

What is your take on 1Samuel 28:14-19.......Saul, Samuel, and medium of Endor?

"Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?"
Then Samuel goes on to ACCURATELY prophesy the fate of Saul
That took place long before the lake of fire judgment, which is FAR into future. No one has been annihilated yet. The question shouldn't have been asked because it is so simplistically misunderstood as being relative at all.

Yes, Gardenias we are free to use emojis to express our thoughts, but not as a weapon. You seem to be very bitter and retaliatory. It's not very Christian like. Just go back and read some of your posts--e.g. essentially telling us we would burn in hell.

I'm not sure why you are posting those same figurative verses--will you or anyone else please post a few literal verses that support your arguments from both the old and new testament?

I feel some of us here keep forgetting that our Father is a consuming fire, as stated in the last verse of Hebrews chapter 12. He will annihilate Satan and turn him into ash for all eternity. Does this imply that he will continue to burn indefinitely? Obviously not.

"You defiled your sanctuaries By the multitude of your iniquities, By the iniquity of your trading; Therefore I brought fire from your midst; It devoured you, And I turned you to ashes upon the earth In the sight of all who saw you. All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you; You have become a horror, And shall be no more forever." ' "

- Ezekiel 28:18-19 (NKJV)

Satan will cease to exist! His name "Apollyon" means "to perish" in Greek. That is why he is known as the "Son of Perdition!"

Do you understand that Satan has used a few mistranslated texts to construct a nearly widely accepted Christian concept that is so wicked that it even transcends human love? In Jeremiah 32:35, God declares that he has never considered torturing children with fire! Despite this, it is still taught in many Christian churches today.

'And they built the high places of Baal which are in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molech, which I did not command them, nor did it come into My mind that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.'

- Jeremiah 32:35 (NKJV)
Even in the Psalms it is written that the wicked will go up in smoke.
But the wicked shall perish; And the enemies of the LORD, Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish. Into smoke they shall vanish away.

- Psalm 37:20 (NKJV)

The Christian life is not always and easy life--"time and chance happens to them all"

"We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself."--2 Corinthians 1:8

"23 Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. 24 Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26 I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. 27 I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. 28 Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. "--2 Corinthians 11:23-28

Psalm 73

Surely God is good to Israel,
to those who are pure in heart.
2 But as for me, my feet had almost slipped;
I had nearly lost my foothold.
3 For I envied the arrogant
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 They have no struggles;
their bodies are healthy and strong.[a]
5 They are free from common human burdens;
they are not plagued by human ills.
6 Therefore pride is their necklace;
they clothe themselves with violence.
7 From their callous hearts comes iniquity[b];
their evil imaginations have no limits.
8 They scoff, and speak with malice;
with arrogance they threaten oppression.
9 Their mouths lay claim to heaven,
and their tongues take possession of the earth.
10 Therefore their people turn to them
and drink up waters in abundance.[c]
11 They say, “How would God know?
Does the Most High know anything?”
12 This is what the wicked are like—
always free of care, they go on amassing wealth.
13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure
and have washed my hands in innocence.
14 All day long I have been afflicted,
and every morning brings new punishments.

@Laura798 ,
Not bitter nor retaliatory as you seem to think.
What I don't understand is this,you seem to be an intelligent woman. Probably have a career in very detailed wording ( I'm sorry you are having trouble finding employment) but how you can dabble in false religion and heretical doctrine is hard for me to understand.
Furthermore I've read your post to others they probably think you are bitter and retaliatory also!
I did not come to cc to fight but to grow in knowledge,edify and be edified.
What I have learned is people are NOT really as they project. Some have zero knowledge on their own just the sources they seek for quick use.
Their beliefs are grounded in man's interpretations and yes I agree what their denominations have taught.
We have to be led of the Holy Spirit through the word to get the true meaning of God's word.

I'm also sorry you seem to be alone in your struggles with family and friends gone from the area. Despair comes and goes and sometimes we do sit under the gourd and wish to die. God's journey for us and his ways are higher than ours. We cannot even comprehend God in his fullness due to our finite minds.

Maybe we will ALL make it before God's throne,I certainly wish there was no eternation damnation of torment and fire for those who reject him.
I have loved ones who have not accepted Jesus' gift of salvation.

The Lord,our Father has set ALL things in motion and under himself,therefore I rest in prayer knowing he is faithful just and merciful!
