I was wondering if this statement is true or not? God does not contradict what is written in the scriptures. I was brought up to believe this to be the case but have come to question this bold statement someone has made and many since have echoed it including myself over a long period of time. This may be a short tread and the right answer may probably be established quickly.

There are no contradictions but many skeptics will pick and choose verses to point to. But you have to examine the whole Bible and understand somethings get fulfilled like the old covenant and a new covenant is made. You also have eye witness testimony that in some areas seem to contradict like how many angels were at the tomb. But these are eye witness accounts meaning they are told like real life accounts where people felt with emotions and it only proves the truthfulness as in they didn't sit and collaborate the story.

I echo Roughsoul1991

If all scripture is God breathed (given by inspiration of God) …and God is perfect, and He magnified His Word above all His name (Psa 138:2)…then the Word of God must be perfect.
Any ostensibly contradiction are due to our understanding, errors in translation, transmission, or deliberate forgeries…..and I would note that primarily…. it starts with our understanding.

There aren’t any contradictions in scripture but there’s a lot of people who don’t follow from the beginning what has transpired there’s a lot of mistakes understanding of scripture and a lot alot of doubt

let the scripture make itself understandable and it will scriotire always interprets other scripture until it makes a cohesive message of Jesus his word and his blood shed on the cross along with his empty tomb and throne in the heavens

I noticed that the OP asked about God contradicting the Scriptures. The responses so far are about alleged contradictions within the Scriptures, which is a different issue.

No, God does not contradict the Scriptures. Many people go off the rails by not following this simple principle. Cults are created when someone claims God told them something that does contradict the Scriptures, and others are careless, foolish, or ignorant enough to believe that person's claim instead of the written word of God.

This is an excellent question.
This also depends how you view the Bible.
If you view the Bible as The Inspired Word of God then there should be no problems with contradictions within scriptures because The Bible was written by men who were inspired by God via The Holy Spirit.
But if you say that it is The Word Of God 100% then this is contradiction because there are many verses and topics in Bible which contradict each other, and God cannot contradict Himself.

Precious friend, since God And His Word Are Both Perfect, then the seeming
Contradictions
that believing "men see" is probably because of violation of
one or more of these Bible study Rules, or, of course, of UNbelief.

Do you care to elaborate a bit? Is there anything specifically in the scriptures that you think God has contradicted?

Why bring this topic on at all? GOD cannot contradict himself. HE IS ( perfect in every way ) and never changes! Are you here to create division?

People go on and on and on about he law, and many say scripture says it is dead, others that it is eternal. Some say scripture tells us to obey the Lord, others that we grace tells us we need not obey.

It is true that God does not argue with God, but there are many interpretations of scripture.

In Job he says 'The Lord gives and the Lord takes away' when earlier Job says 'what I have feared has come upon me'. Some quote the first phrase as if God said it.
Also in the NT the talk about women not preaching and etc was not said by God (1 Cor 14:34-35) but Paul. Some people quote this as if God said it.
All in all 'His thoughts are higher than ours and He is perfect in all His ways' 🙌🙌🙌!

The "contradiction" you need to seriously address is your spiritual status. It is all well and good to hang out here posing such questions as you have, BUT, until you work out your salvation, you are just spinning your wheels.

Why be the chafe when you can become the wheat?

It seems you "have come to question" much of Scripture (given the questions you have posed), and that makes me wonder if you are really seeking salvaiton, or seeking to cause confusion here on a Christian Forum?

p_rehbein I genuinely appreciate your concern for my spiritual wellbeing and my standing with God. But again I am excited to state with great passion and conviction that I am a follower of my eldest brother Jesus and we share the same Father in heaven. And I'm so glad They have sent Their Spirit of Truth to live in me to be His host. It is such a privilege to be His mobile home, to take Him to the lost so together we can lead them to my Father through Christ, to bring the light of Christ to those living in the darkness, to tell them of a Saviour Who can take away their burden of sin AND then like me become another mobile home for the Spirit of Truth to do His stuff through. For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to my Father and the Lamb of God be glory for ever. Amen.

No Jesusfollower, not at all. I'm happy to light a fire (thread) that we can gather around to gain a greater understanding of our God Who remains in heaven until one day in the future we will see Him face to face but until then I'm happy to get to know Him directly through His Spirit of Truth within me or from Him in others. I'm perfectly ok with contradictions and my Father changing His mind. And if you will be patient with me I'd be more than happy to explain myself. But I respect the views of others and don't want to share all at once as others too have valid things to contribute I'm sure. So here is where I can start.
The other day I was reminded of the 10 commandments and how God said to keep the sabbath
8.Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. Ex 20.
Then a number of years later God said through His appointed leader of the day, Joshua,
3 March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. 5 When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.” Josh 6. That means they would have marched on the sabbath which He said to rest on and keep it holy (separate from the other days) and the priests carried the Ark and blew trumpets on the sabbath as well.
Did God ask them to do what He had previously commanded them not to?

There is, however, contradictions between the different Bible versions.

Bear in mind that John146 holds that the King James version is the only true Bible in English. It's pointless asking him about other versions, as he is biased against them from the outset.

Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent?
