Hi everyone!

I'm a new member and have a concern that maybe someone has some wisdom to share or prayers.
I recently had an accident where my hand, all the way up to my shoulder, neck and back are sore. I went to a local chiropractor for an eval and treatment. Normally I don't get x-rays for even dental exams. One of my friends is dying from a brain tumor and I'm phobic of ionizing (x-rays, microwave oven) even try to keep non ionizing (cell phone, emf, etc) radiation to a minimum. I told the radiologist this and asked him to limit the x-rays to only those absolutely necessary. He did some and noticed that he left the machine running an extra long time. He said I can relax from the position, but the machine kept the light and growling noise on for over a minute. It certainly seemed to me that it was still running. If I wasn't caught off guard and delirious from lack of sleep since the accident, I would have denied the x-rays altogether and walked out of there at the least.
I asked and for a lead blanket for the rest of my body that would not be exposed. He seemed concerned that he'd get in trouble because he forget to offer that. He didn't admit it, but I think he also forgot the machine was running while he internet surfed or whatever distracted him behind his barrier. The doctors were gone for the day after that since I was the last patient. Tomorrow morning is my next appointment. I need wisdom how to deal with this properly and healing from the damage done from excessive radiation. I live a clean life, but now concerned about cancer, etc.

Hello @HealthAndHappiness, I have heard (from both my dentist and from my orthopedic surgeon) that x-rays are not as dangerous as they used to be :)(y)(y)

That said, if you are uncomfortable with getting them, they should do their best to accommodate you (so I would reiterate your desire for additional protection before they begin to x-ray you again). Perhaps you should remind them of what happened last time and (kindly) ask them to be more careful this time around?

You should tell your doctor about your last experience and your concern over it, and then ask him if there is any reason for you to be be worried about your health going forward (because of the two sets of x-rays). In the meantime, here's a quote from Pastor Chuck Swindoll that may be helpful to consider.

"Two words will help you cope when you run low on hope: accept and trust"

Praying for you (for getting to the bottom of what happened last time, that it will not happen again, and that the last session of x-rays, along with the new one, will not end up being harmful to you).

God bless you!!

~Deut

Philippians 4
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

That's a very appropriate verse. It applies in my situation. I'm beating myself up over this for being so foolish. The injury has denied me sleep and I regret the decision. The long bones didn't appear to be out of place and I only suspected fractures. As long as they aren't separated and mobile, they fuse rapidly with the proper raw materials that the Lord made Adam from. He revealed some amazing discoveries about that as an answer to prayer years ago.

I never plan to get another x-ray as long as I live. I will let them know what happened in case they are concerned about their future patients, for their sakes. Anything that the doctors will tell me will be to cover their liability. The go to phrase doctors and techs are given to answer patient concerns is, "It puts off no more radiation than spending a few minutes in the sun." The cooked brain cells, thyroid, etc that experienced mutations can not be linked directly to the diagnostics by the time anything is discovered.

The doctors seem to be good at what they do. I was examined for an hour or more. The chiropractor and the MD were very thorough; Was impressed by that.
However, I don't expect an apology or anything else from the practice that has a man running the x-ray machine that is making potentially fatal actions. We spoke and he revealed that he was disgruntled with other patients concerns. That should have been a big red flag.
The Great Physician must help me with this challenge
Thanks for your encouragement and recommendation.

I'm 71, had my first X-ray when I was a child. I've had several since. I've had a couple of CAT scans and MRI's also. I worked with high power microwave devices for 3-1/2 years. I've never had cancer.

X-rays can be harmful in large doses over a long period of time. That's why radiologists take measures to limit exposure. The amount we receive from an X-ray or two is not enough to cause any harm.

Everyone is subject to ionising radiation that is emitted by the sun along with visible light. You are far more at risk from UV and infra red light (the cause of sunburn) than natural radiation or man made radiation.

My perspective is to just not worry about it, but I know you're worried about it so I'll just offer my prayers for you.

Just a small piece of info to set your mind a ease (if possible). Many x-ray systems require a cool down cycle after exposure cycle. The light that you were watching probably indicated that cycle.

Have you run an x-ray machine before? I'm not trying to challenge your opinion. I'm just curious.

At my appointment earlier, the DC chiropractor told me three things.
I asked if the x-ray machine was putting out x-rays when the light is on AND it has the growling noise? He said "Yes".
I explained my concern and he changed his story to tell me that it was only doing that for a fraction of a second and also that an old TV puts off more x-rays than the machine they have. Which is true is anyone's guess.
If I got a film, I could test that out because I think there's an old TV set in the attic. If he's right, I can take my own x-rays with the TV set. Lol!

Only while checking welds in ship construction.

The x-rays produced by old TVs and other household sources are called soft x-rays and are dissipated by the air before reaching your body. Your experiment won't work.

I'll bet the machine used to check welds wasn't soft.
Was there a procedure, like lowering the camera on a rope, to keep you from back scatter?

I've lost track of all the x-rays I've had in the last 10 years. Never wore a lead blanket or anything else. Never had any trouble as a result of them, either.

You say that you went to a chiropractor for treatment. Why didn't you go to a doctor instead? Just wondering????????

☕🙂👍🌄
Thank you :) I was x-rayed five times on Thursday. Also had a CT scan (not my first one, and not sure how they differ, either). I was x-rayed three times before I was even born! And received countless x-rays in the meantime for various reasons, such as bone fractures, for dental care, and for chiropractic purposes. I am not sure how I could have received the level of care I have without them

Thanks for bringing this back up again. It reminds me to keep taking my antimutagenics.
Physicians who have taught radiology have said that x-rays have an accumulative effect.
I've also been told by a friend who worked in a radioactive power station and had a Japanese ancestor who survived burns while escaping Hiroshima when WW2 concluded a contrary opinion.
I will say that I would not bath a dog and put it in a microwave to dry it off for any amount of time at ANY setting, no matter how harmless microwaves may seem. Many ladies leave their cell phones in their bra as a convenient place and take no concern about increased risks of breast cancer. I've warned a good buddy about carrying his phone around all day in his pocket and not using plane mode. My boys are too important so I don't do that. You may have heard of many people with brain tumors behind their phone side ear. Ie. Senator Ted Kennedy. He had the world's most expensive health insurance and treatment options too.

All of those handful of examples tell me that people do what they want to and believe what they will. I can point to many broken bones and injuries where x-rays were absolutely meaningless, except to pad the bills for hospitals and offices. I wasn't even allowed to see more than two of the photos of the last battery of way too many. The doctor made no apparent decisions based on those and I'm out over a thousand dollars when someone else is responsible for my injuries. The insurance company assessor tells me that he hasn't seen the video yet.
I'm sure...🙄

My brother had a jagged exposed multi- brakes in both arms from a 6'6" steroid freak violent murderer who attacked out of the blue and beat him dozens of times with a 4 foot + long steel pipe. I would judge my brother worthy of needing some appropriate x-rays only at time of setting/casting to make sure the bones are lined up. After that nutritional consultation and therapy is utterly important. No medical hospital I know of does that.

My chiropractor said they didn't get an x-ray of my shoulder. I said No.
He said that if it's still giving me trouble, then he'd have to "twist my arm" so to speak. I asked him if x-rays show the details of soft connective tissue like torn tendons and cartilage, knowing the answer.
He said No.
I said No.
He is an advisor to me and I simply take his information into consideration and then make my own decisions as to how God's temple will be repaired.

We all choose our path to recovery.
I was weakened at the time of the office call and foolish. I took upon myself enough guilt. God forgave me however for Christ's sake... Jeremiah 3:13,. 1 John 1:9.

I did go to an urgent care clinic first chance.
The physician was very friendly.
He looked at it and said it's swollen and the skin is broken so he's ordering a tetanus shot.
The only other thing he did was to stroke my finger tips lightly and ask if I could feel that.
I declined the tetanus shot and thanked him for his time.

Whoah!
I gave you my pov on my personal choices, but what happened that you needed x-rays?
I understand if you don't want to share that personal information with the entire planet.
I will pray for your speedy recovery Magenta.

PS: to answer your question about CT scans,... according to dot guv, one CT scan is the equivalent to anywhere from 100- 800 major x-rays..

I completely forgot to mention that I underwent five weeks of radiation as part of my cancer treatment
shortly after my diagnosis of just over two years ago. Radiation was Monday to Friday only, and I took
pill-form chemo on those same days during those five weeks, and then was again scheduled to take
chemo after that, for six rounds of two full weeks on followed by one week off. The last two weeks was
cancelled due to side effects, which did not include the loss of my hair, which has naturally thinned as
I age. I realize this does not happen to everybody (hair loss). The most severe side effect was neuropathy
in my feet, which returned a year after chemo ended.

Radiation did greatly reduce the size of my tumor, which was then removed surgically. Nine months later
I had a second surgery, and this latest hospital visit was due to potentially life-threatening complications
from surgical wounds... the last of which took seven months to heal. I face another surgery in future.

I do not talk about these things here often because it is not something I wish to focus on or have people
asking me about all the time, though I do not mind you asking. For real I feel that God has really been
looking after me, and I have had so few concerns through this whole process, knowing also that in the
not-too- distant past anyone with my symptoms would have heard their diagnosis as a death sentence.

My mother was x-rayed while pregnant around six months I think? When the doctor suspected she was
carrying twins (she was). He x-rayed her a third time to see if there was a number three in there :D

Thank you for your concern and prayers! I do appreciate it :)

My oh my Magenta, I had no idea.
I will keep you in prayer for that challenge and trust our Great Physician for healing.
Feel free to send reminders as oft as you like. It will be kept confidential.

It just so happens that I listened to an archived class by a research MD who spent an hour+ on the topic, this afternoon. She has a handful of classes on various subjects concerning the topic.
You are more than welcome to them anytime for the asking. There is no charge and it only costs the time it takes to listen. They are non-technical, intended for the layperson, and enjoyable to follow.

I'm glad that you got back the feeling in your feet and not had more reactions to the chemo/ radiation. The Lord IS helping.

May He continue to bring you the peace and healing that surpasses all understanding.
