WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A record-low 20% of Americans now say the Bible is the literal word of God, down from 24% the last time the question was asked in 2017, and half of what it was at its high points in 1980 and 1984. Meanwhile, a new high of 29% say the Bible is a collection of "fables, legends, history and moral precepts recorded by man." This marks the first time significantly more Americans have viewed the Bible as not divinely inspired than as the literal word of God. The largest percentage, 49%, choose the middle alternative, roughly in line with where it has been in previous years.

That's fine, when they come before God in judgment, they'll see just how literal it is.
You believe a report from Washington, DC?
I believe NOTHING from them!

Well, it's on us. We are the salt. Salt flavors (influences) and preserves (keeps from decaying). Since our nation is showing signs of neither Christian influencing or savory preservation, I'd say the blame falls on us.

In the United States, there've been several "great awakening" periods in the Church. I'd say a new one was in order. These influence and improve the spiritual, and the worldly realm is blessed and improved, from politics to culture.

Folks, if you are not, start praying for America's next great awakening of the Church. And, ask God to show you if there is anything you can be used to do that you are not currently doing, that can be part of this change. (Yes, I'm praying this for myself almost every day, and have been praying for my nation consistently since 2013. Occasionally, I'll pray for other western nations that've lost their way as well.)

Sure, but it requires sacrifice and faith in each other being faithful in Jesus, or at least faithful that Jesus can carry through.
Start by never turning on their media.
You mean Pravda?

So were running with what a poll say? Ok. For us that believe they are life and health and so much more that we still don't truly know about. Now "literal" to some or most seems to have different meanings. How many denominations are there? They say about 45,000. You can go to any Church and find out if they truly believe literally the word of God. Were not being honest here. Don't get me wrong.. no one is lying its just were not giving this much thought other then glancing over it lightly.

I believe its God talking. I don't get stuck on just who that person was that wrote it down. Its wise to know who they were talking to and the time so forth so on. Yet I believe its my Father talking in all. I found to believe blindly. If I don't understand I ask yet.. I still have to pray and seek and find that answer for myself not what some man on this world believes. So when I said were not being honest.. there are things within that book some do not just believe. What so many do not like to here is.. it does always come down to faith. That is the only thing that pleases Him.

I'm shocked it's as high as 20%.

I genuinely suspect some weak spots in the polling or the questions... I find it impossible to believe that 20% of the people in this country believe the bible.

Take care everyone.

Anything is possible, but is it probable is the real question?
Looking at Christian forums, I would say 'probably'.

generally speaking, don't most of these polls choose a random 1,000 maybe more people?
i ask because like your article points out there once was 49% and now it's down to 20% so either way, that is alarming because 1,000 random people are just that 1,000 random people. so there's probably much merit to why 800 people say no and only 200 say yes to the question polled.

are you aware of fourms where Christians and seekers hang out, I love to share our Lord with them.
I do too, the problem is, when you go to share the Gospel with the 'seekers' about 25 'confusers' jump in and mess things up.

Being a Christian since '74, my general sense would concur with the findings. The Jesus Movement gave us those who took the Bible literally and then after about '84 it's been an apostasy slide.

i was raised in the fire and brimstone days of preaching. scared to death and couldn't find the altar fast enough. then the message changed and i relaxed and grew cold and ended up out of the Church connection. when my dad was in his final week before he passed away i made a deal with him i would spend my eternity with him. ever since 2017 i have been more on fire in my walk than ever before. i have a lot of issues with modern day Doctrines but i do my best to believe what i read in the Bible and live it. so i am one of the 20% that believes the Bible is God's Holy Word and should be treated as such.

Wow, thanks for that testimony. I'm glad I wasn't led in the path of my dad as he was a hardcore atheist and met eternity in 2019. Welcome to God's family.
