Grandma's TV sometimes plays commercials where the phone number you call to get the deal has obviously been dubbed over the original commercial. One voice will say "Call (number) to get your deal today!" but the (number) is said by a completely different voice.

Does anybody else ever wonder why they had to dub that in? Why are they changing numbers so frequently that THIS MANY commercials have to dub different phone numbers in?

As you'd expect, the phone number will change. Don't want to reshoot the whole commercial, which is very expensive. It's very easy to overdub the audio on a vid, render new copy of commercial. Fast, basically no cost. Doing a graphic over the old phone number with new is pretty easy too. The video editor can speak the new number, dont need to bring in the pro.

Poor boy logistics: Never fill the gas tank up. You never know when the car might break down, and there you are with a good $60 locked in the gas tank that you can't use until you can afford to get the car fixed.

What? You thought those of us who scrape by on just a little bit of gas at a time were trying to wean our cars off gas? :p

Less than perfect, yes I know
Not much to show
Gleaning meaning of timeless reading
Wisdom’s afterglow
Like an apple for example
Or the worm within
Forbidden fruit is tainted truth
No man without sin

Judging me, blaming you
Hypocrites all
Heated vows and furrowed brows
Still… comes the fall
Less than perfect, yes I know
Damned all the same
Blinded eyes and selfish pride
All of us to blame

A timeless melody
Of unbroken wisdom
Words by which we prosper
A mirror for the soul
We are all forgiven
That’s all I have to offer….....

Tireless tongues yammering guile
Voices all resound
Woman’s vanity and man’s pride
Know no bounds
All that’s spoken by spirits broken
Can’t be unheard
History now holds to account
Every uttered word

A timeless melody
Of unbroken wisdom
Words by which we prosper
A mirror for the soul
We are all forgiven
That’s all I have to offer….....

I think my car needs repair. I always put $20 at a time in the gas tank, but lately $20 of gas doesn't last as long as it used to. I think I've got a fuel leak somewhere...:unsure:

Which letter is silent in the word 'scent'...is it the letter S or letter C?
And why do we even NEED both of them?

Back in the day when postage was first invented, my great-great-grandpa could have sent a scent for a cent.

Try changing the gas cap. I believe a new cap will reduce evaporation.

The letters that me and my wife exchange before we were married were scented too. Cost more than a cent to send though.

That’s the federal leak. Whenever you’re rolling in on the fillin’ station a federal hose pops up under your car and half of what you’re fillin’ goes down to a big old governmental tank below the station area. This is bipartisan conspiracy to keep the governmental wheels running, quite literally.

They must have started repairing it, at least a bit. Prices have finally begun going down.

The S is obviously silent. For instance, Pepe La Pew here is referred to as Heaven Scent. Drop the S and you've still got some value. Plus he's French. French use C's more than Ss. And if you think about it, C's are exCeptional while S's are uSSleSS.

The 'C' is silent. :geek:
Are you sure the two letters together are not, in fact, reinforcing one another's "s" sound, making it, effectively, an S to the second power? Of course that might sound like a lisp, but maybe that's how it ought to be pronounced?

Are you sure that you are not asking me this because you really just can't stand to imagine that I might actually be right about something? :p

Show me [at least] one example in the English language where 'sc' is a "double-s" sound...

(I have never even heard of what you are suggesting. I think you are saying it simply to "mess with me" about/over it. Would you have asked anyone else the same question? Is there a deep-seated psychological thing going on here...?)

I started to post that "the 's' was dominant so the 'c' is silent" - but, then shortened it for simplicity.

No one would answer the girl.

So, I did.

The bottle of perfume that Willy sent

Was highly displeasing to Millicent;

Her thanks was so cold

That they argued, I'm told

About that silly scent Willy sent Millicent.

Surely you did not take my ridiculous response seriously? It sounded outrageous because it was meant to :D So yes, I was messing with you, and no, there is nothing that is deep-seatedly psychological here other than my need to use my gift of messing ;)
