It's just another day of the year. You can do it for your mother.

I suppose, I'm just super uncomfortable going to other churches.

Ignore the 90% who seem to be into just ritualistic showmanship, and spend time observing the few who seem to have Jesus in their hearts. It will encourage you.

It's not good when parents force too much religion on their kids. In such cases, kids grow up and often refuse to have anything to do with a church after that.

Churches are good places. Catholic churches are good places. Make the best of it. It might turn out to be a lot of fun.

May I suggest that you enter into this by asking God to help you to understand the lesson/s He has for you to learn by attending with your mother that night? There is nothing God leads us through that we cannot learn from.

Dear Jesus, let her enjoy your presence at a Catholic church, don`t allow she would have any negative experience being there.

I've attended service in three Catholic churches in Scotland. The services were no different from the Lutheran church here in Norway... The only difference in the church itself was the statues / stations placed along the walls, and the thingy for holy water.

Pay attention to what the preacher says and use your discernment, just because we disagree with them doesn't mean they got everything wrong and we everything right :)

Perhaps you could use this as a time to witness to your Mother... about the non-denominational church. She may be open to hearing. I've been to other denominations after my journey with this one began. The Holy Spirit travels! Alleluia! Merry Christmas friend.

...and say Merry Christmas to your Mom, too! You'll never regret it later.

She's not big on the whole going to church thing, she just wants me to experience what she had when she was a kid.
